Manager’s Message New Water Supply Well to be Drilled near Londonderry Road south of Falcon High School As Meridian Ranch continues to grow, the developer and your Meridian Service Metro District regularly expand and improve the public infrastructure that provides essential services. The most important infrastructure is our water supply system. One such expansion that will soon be noticeable is the drilling of an additional water supply well.

During September and October, drilling operations can be seen on the south side of Londonderry Drive across the street from the High School.

The well drilling rig will be very large and visible, however the wellhead improvements, when completed, will be small and almost invisible from Londonderry Drive. There are already several water supply well sites in Meridian Ranch that residents drive by daily without notice. For safety reasons, we do not publish their locations.

Pump testing will wrap up this phase of the project and may potentially extend into midNovember.

The drill rig used to drill the well boreholes weighs approximately 140,000 pounds. It occupies a space about 200-feet by 100-feet and will extend about 70 feet high.

This project will use approximately 4,000 feet of steel pipe.

The completed well will be documented with video photography.

Tree Planting Tips: From Tall Timbers, Arborists in Colorado Springs

Optimum planting periods are from March 15th through June 15th and September 1 through October 15th.

If you have not brought your property into compliance with planting trees, NOW is a good time to plant.

Plant the top of the root ball slightly above ground level. The root collar (flare) must be visible one inch above final grade. Set root ball on SOLID ground and not on loose backfill in the hole; this will eliminate settling. Remove at least the top half of all wire and baskets from balled and burlapped trees and completely remove containers from containerized stock. Adding peat moss or manure to soil in planting hole is not necessary (too much can cause a potted tree effect and restrict root growth). Backfill hole with original soil. Do not fertilize at planting time.

Topping off trees: Many residents have topped off their trees believing this will assist the tree with new growth. According to the arborists, tree topping should be avoided. Topping leads to: Starvation, shock, insects and diseases, weak limbs, rapid new growth, tree death, ugliness, and increased maintenance costs.
