The Farmer’s Market at The Shops at Meridian Ranch continues to be a popular attraction this summer. Held on Friday afternoons 2-7 p.m. through September 29th, the Market not only offers produce, meats, eggs, homemade jams and bakery goods, but also spa products, jewelry, clothing and fashion accessories. As we get more into the season, additional produce vendors will be attending as their crops are harvested. Metro District Improvements Stonebridge Park Grading has just completed and irrigation and landscaping will soon follow at Stonebridge Park.

The park is located between Stonebridge and the Antler Creek Golf Course and will primarily be accessed by foot or bicycle from Stonebridge or the trail west of Stonebridge that leads south from Londonderry Drive. It will include a large level grass playing surface approximately a half acre in size and a pavilion equipped with picnic tables and electricity for future entertainment

July 2017 Design Review Council Corner News from the DRC- Did you know that all solid fencing is to be stained “Meridian Ranch Brown”?

Section 6.1 of DRC no 1 and Section 7.1 of DRC no 2 of the Design Guidelines states, "Solid wood fencing shall be stained Behr semi-transparent wood stain, product #3077 or premium semitransparent wood stain, weather proofing, product #5077, redwood natural tone color. The stain can be found at Home Depot on Woodmen and Powers. Reference the color, "Meridian Ranch Brown."

Here are a few common questions that we have received here at the DRC about the above guideline.

1.) What part of the fence needs to be stained “Meridian Ranch Brown”?

A.) Every part of your fence needs to be stained.

The current construction schedule calls for sod installation by mid-July and completion by the beginning of August. The Stonebridge Park will be a valuable addition to Meridian Ranch, not only because of the large flat playing surface that can accommodate many field sports and entertainment options, but also because of its close proximity to the recreation center. Park at the recreation center and enjoy a short relaxing walk to the Stonebridge Park. The park will be ready just in time for some flag football!

2.) Where can I purchase the stain?

A.) “Meridian Ranch Brown” Stain is available only at the Home Depot on Woodmen Road and Powers Boulevard. Lowes DOES NOT have the correct color for “Meridian Ranch Brown”. The Lowe’s version is too red.

3.) How do I know which parts of the fence I am responsible for if I share the fence with my neighbor?

A.) Short answer is whoever built the fence is responsible for the fence. However, the DRC recommends talking with your neighbor and coming up with an action plan to stain the fence that will work for both homeowners and their schedules. Fence staining parties can be fun!

Medians on Londonderry Drive Changes will be made to one of the median islands on Londonderry Drive to enhance traffic safety by improving sight distances at intersections. The trees from the medians will be replanted at the new Stonebridge Park. You may have noticed that the wood mulch has been replaced by rock mulch in many areas along the parkways.

Thanks to Redstone Inc. who supplied the rock mulch making a more permanent solution to the problem of wood mulch washing into the street during rainstorms.

1. Stir together coffee, chocolate, sugar, salt, and chili powder or cayenne, until chocolate is fully melted and sugar and salt are fully dissolved. Let cool.

2. Transfer marinade to a large zipper-lock bag, add steak, press out air from bag, and seal. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour and up to 12 hours. When ready to cook, remove steak from marinade, blot dry with paper towels, and grill as desired.

After weeks of improving athletic and leadership skills, tapping into an athlete pool of various abilities, a group of preschoolers got ready for the Special Olympics. Nearly 30 children, ages 3-5, participated May 3 in a Special Olympics event at Meridian Ranch Elementary School in District 49. Special Olympics Young Athletes program coordinators provided equipment and an activity guide, as well as teacher training. Julie Cole, early childhood special educator, registered the school for Special Olympics Young Athletes, a program that helps children with and without disabilities unite in sport and play.

“They love being with their friends and playing,” said Cole, observing the afternoon session, “and this is developing gross motor skills, social skills and teamwork.” Fifth-graders arrived to explain the activity stations, like moving heel-to-toe on a balance beam, hopping along floor markers and crawling through a collapsible tunnel. He stood behind the afternoon session, as each student approached Cole for a medal and certificate. “Even if they try and fail, I want them to know they should always try,” said Owen.

NO SOLICITING Have you received one of those annoying doorbell ringing sounds right when you were ready to sit down and enjoy an evening’s rest, only to find someone selling magazines when you answered the door? Recently, there have been numerous complaints about the solicitors who have invaded our neighborhoods. There have been several cases as late as 9:00 pm where solicitors have been peddling their wares, refusing to take “NO!” for an answer and scaring residents.

MSMD and the DRC have joined forces to deter these solicitors. Soon, there will be new signs posted at the main entrance roads to Meridian Ranch declaring it is “A COVENANT PROTECTED COMMUNITY” with “NO TRESPASSING” and “”NO SOLICITING” permitted. These signs are not intended to preclude your local fund raising groups like the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and local school students from knocking on your doors at reasonable hours but rather the commercial vendors such as those selling magazine, cable TV subscriptions, roofing, plumbing repairs and landscaping, as examples. These signs may not deter everyone and for some, stronger action may be necessary but for most, this certainly should help. Be Safe!
