Falcon Dental Lends a Hand As we all know, Black Forest and its surrounding communities have been deeply affected by the Black Forest fire. The fire is slowly being put out, but in its wake, families are left with virtually nothing. It is sad and unimaginable, but in the darkness, our community has shown bright. One particular story that stood out was that of the Falcon Dental Office. The staff members there decided that they needed to do something and wanted to help evacuees in a tangible way. They came together as a team and decided that the best thing to do would be to provide food, smiles and kindness. They sought help from local businesses and were delighted in the generous response they received! Several companies provided food and beverages over a three day period. When asked for donations, employees at Safeway could not provide groceries without managerial permission so they opened their wallets and gave what they could instead. Dr. Housewright from Falcon Orthodontics opened his building so that people could come and enjoy a good meal, and he also contributed financially to the effort. In addition to maintaining a busy schedule for patients, the team opened their doors and served lunch, providing a much needed respite with free WiFi so that evacuees could watch the press conferences. They handed out basic hygiene items to people in need as well. They also visited the Walmart parking lot where people had set up RV’s and the Falcon fire stations to deliver food and other items. The people that they helped were frequently overcome with gratitude and astonishment that the Falcon Dental team cared enough to support them in their time of need. Evacuees could not comprehend the love and kindness that they received. In the midst of providing help to the community, Falcon Dental learned that one of their own had lost her family farm. Heather Dubois and her parents own Chevaux-DuBois Farms in Black Forest. There they raise horses, pigs, dogs, cats and rats. Heather was working when she heard that her home was on the mandatory evacuation list. She ran home and was frantically trying to get her animals to safety as the fire inched closer. Her co-workers, Kilea and Debbie, were at her side helping to secure animals and save some of Heather’s belongings. The aftermath is devastating as the farm house was completely destroyed, but all of the animals are safe and unharmed. The family is left to sift through the ashes to try to find items that can be salvaged and to try and make plans to rebuild their home without insurance. If you would like to donate, please visit their site on youcaring.com under Chevaux-DuBois Farms and DuBois family. This is just one example of many individuals and companies that provided support at such a crucial time. It is heartwarming to know that our community has such a strong bond and that when tragedies Meridian Ranch occur, we can count on each other for support. Photo Courtesy of Heather Dubois
