Stonebridge is gearing up for summer! New improvements to the rear yard of the Lodge are anticipated to be completed late this summer. The HOA will be sending an educational reminder regarding the requirements in Section 6.2.1 of the Design Guidelines – acceptable trees include Hackberry, Ash, Amur Maple or Tatarian Maple. If you are planning to install artificial turf to save water, please remember the Board will need to have a sample of the turf and requirements for installation. If both are not submitted, then the turf will not be approved. Although parking has improved, it is not completely in compliance with HOA governing documents. Manager’s Message The first Saturday in June is National Trails Day. I hope you are using and enjoying the extensive trails and open space areas of Meridian Ranch. This is truly one of our local treasures. Meridian Ranch has over 15 miles of trails and over 200 acres of native grasslands and open space. Planning is under way for extension of the trail and open space system through the Rolling Hills area of Meridian Ranch that is planned for development between Rainbow Bridge Drive and the Falcon Regional Park. The neighborhood trails will eventually connect with trails in the Falcon Regional Park and all the way to Eastonville Road. So, start walking and enjoy the views! Remember, our Parks and Trails are open from dawn to dusk. Dogs must be leashed and owners must have physical control of their dogs at all times. Also, dog owners must pick up and properly dispose of waste. There are Dog Pot stations located throughout our trail system for your use. Another local treasure is our Meridian Ranch Recreation Center. The outdoor pool opens Memorial Day weekend. Swimming lessons at the indoor pool have been under way since March and will continue at the outdoor pools through the summer. When using the pool facilities, remember there are times when no lifeguard is on duty and parents must watch their children. Lifeguards will be on duty during family recreational swim times. Spring soccer in Meridian Ranch had over 70 participants in three age groups. T-ball is starting the first week of June. Contact the Recreation Center for information on sign-ups for youth sports. The recreation center also has drop-in volleyball, basketball, and pickleball for adults.

Coming up very soon is the “Falcon Freedom Days” Independence Day Celebration on Saturday, June 29. On that day, there will be a children’s parade starting at the Meridian Ranch Recreation Center. Also, a 5k run will be held called “Red, White, and Blueberry”, where each runner will be treated to a delicious piece of blueberry pie after the race. In the afternoon and evening at the Antler Creek Golf Course, special music will be provided by a great band from Nashville. Kids will enjoy bounce houses, a petting zoo, and seeing the Air Force Academy falcon mascot. And, of course, the annual fireworks display will be better than ever. Due to the encroaching new houses, the fireworks will be lower to ground and not visible from as far away. But the actual display promises to be even more exciting than in past years. The Metro District is soliciting donations to help cover the cost of Falcon Freedom Days. If you or your business would like to make a tax-deductible donation for Falcon Freedom Days, please call or email the Metro District Office and request a donor’s packet. Summer is the time when homeowners like to upgrade their backyard landscaping. This is a reminder that access to backyards across District owned and maintained open space and landscaped areas is not allowed. In some rare cases, the District Board may grant a formal written right of entry if you post a security deposit and comply with various requirements to protect the District’s landscaping, irrigation systems, and fences. Falcon Fire Protection District Home Grill Fire Safety Few things in life compare to a good meal cooked on the grill. However, the risk of fire is very real when cooking outdoors. The National Fire Protection Association reports that grills, hibachis, or barbecues were involved in an average of 10,200 home fires per year in the U.S. between 2013-2017. These fires resulted in millions of dollars in property loss, injuries, and even deaths. NFPA statistics for 2013-2017 indicate that June has the second highest number of grill fires. Father’s Day is the fourth highest peak grilling day on the calendar. Other facts about grills and grill fires: • More than 70% of U.S. households own at least one outdoor barbecue, grill, or smoker. • 19,000 people went to the emergency room because of injuries related to grilling, including 9,300 thermal burns. • Of the fires ignited by gas grills, gas leaks and gas line breaks caused 11% of structure fires and 23% of outside fires (grass, brush, trees). • Grills had not been cleaned in roughly one-quarter of the fires. • More than one-quarter of grill structure fires started on an exterior balcony or open porch. Ten percent began when an outside wall caught fire. Here are some grilling safety tips from the Falcon Fire Protection District and NFPA: • Propane and charcoal barbecue grills should only be used outdoors. • Grills should be placed well away from the home and deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches. • Keep children and pets away from the grill area. • Keep the grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill. • Never leave any grill unattended during use. • Gas grills: ◊ Make sure grill lids are open before lighting them. ◊ Periodically check the major connection points between the gas (propane) tank hose and the regulator and cylinder, and where the hose connects to the burners. Ensure the propane tank is off, then tighten any loose connections. • Charcoal grills: ◊ For charcoal grills, use only charcoal starter fluid. Never add charcoal fluid or any other flammable liquids to the fire. ◊ Keep charcoal fluid out of the reach of children and away from heat sources. ◊ When you are finished grilling, let charcoal coals completely cool before disposing in a metal container.

Design Review Council Corner Community Clean up Days June 17th through the 19th – Roll offs will be placed on the north end of Lambert and the east end of Rex Road. On June 17th we would love some assistance with cleaning up the trails. If you have a sports club or a non-profit that would like to help and earn a donation of $250.00, please contact Jamie Adams at jamie@ warrenmgmt.com. We will be meeting at Rex Road just past Pyramid Peak at 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Trash bags and gloves will be provided along with some refreshments at break time around 10:00 a.m. The dumpsters are located at Rex Road just past Pyramid Peak and Lambert and Park Gate next to the High School. On June 17th there will also be a Goodwill Truck available for clothing and other household items to be picked up, this truck will be placed at the Stonebridge Lodge Parking lot located in the Stonebridge community. On another note: Many residents wonder why the DRC sends letters regarding Colorado State and El Paso County laws. Section 7.7 in DRC no 1 and Section 3.17 DRC no 2 of the CC&Rs Violations of Law states: Any violation of any federal, state, municipal, or local law, ordinance, rule or regulation, pertaining to the ownership, occupation, or use of any property within the Property is hereby declared to be a violation of this Declaration and shall be subject to any and all enforcement procedures set forth in this Declaration. This means all residents must abide by all Colorado State and El Paso County laws and ordinances. Some laws which have recently become an issue in Meridian Ranch are the Colorado Toy Vehicle Laws and bike laws. According to HB09-1026 “Toy Vehicles” are defined in section 42-1-102 as: Any vehicle that has wheels and is not designed, approved, or intended for use on public roadways or highways or off-road use. This definition includes mini-bikes, go-peds, go-karts, golf carts; mini-motorcycles, etc. The law is clear in that it is illegal to ride a “toy vehicle” or an “off-highway vehicle” on any public roadway or sidewalk and the age of the rider is unimportant. Cyclists are expected to ride along the right shoulder of the road (with the flow of traffic), yield to pedestrians, and signal for all turns at least 100 feet in advance. Flags are addressed in the Design Guidelines Section 8.4 Allowable Signs Not Requiring a Permit, which states: The following signs, if not illuminated (with the exception of the national or state flag, which may be illuminated), shall be allowed without obtaining a sign permit. 8.4.1 DRC no 1 Design Guidelines: One (1) properly displayed United States and/or Colorado State flag not exceeding twenty-five (25) square feet in flag area on a pole not to exceed thirty (30) feet in height.
