Jacqueline Hughes-Williams and her unwavering dedication to working with young people and helping them to achieve their best.

In the time that I have worked at the school, a huge amount has changed. These changes range from what is covered in the curriculum, approaches to teaching and learning, the way that schools interact with other services and the challenges that young people can face today. However, what has always remained the same is the dedication of the staff here in working with young people in order to achieve their very

When speaking with parents at the start of the academic year, I spoke about secondary school and learning as an adventure. An adventure can be solo or collegiate; it can be scary or exhilarating; it can be boring or thrilling. No one adventure is the same and sometimes adventure lies where you least expect it. The same can be said about learning, each new subject and lesson has the potential to take you places you have never imagined, to gain an insight and understanding of something or someone that makes you look at the world with fresh eyes or new appreciation.

It is this spirit of adventure that marks Heart of England School’s next chapter. We will be bold and adventurous in what we offer our students, inside and

term we completed building work of our new Cedar Centre, an additional facility

for us to be able to work with students in small groups or one-to-one where additional help and support is needed. Students are seeing further building work this term as we build a new servery to improve service at break and lunch as well as broaden the food that we offer.

Adventure was front and centre when students in Years 9, 10, 11 and 12 heard about the opportunity to participate in an expedition to Tanzania. As someone who loves to travel, the opportunity to talk with different people and experience other cultures is an incredibly enriching one. Of course, such an opportunity is not cheap but one of the appeals of working with the organisation we are is the support they offer young people and their families in fundraising to pay for the trip; the fundraising itself is part of the adventure.

Over the coming months there will be much to update you on with regards to the next chapter in Heart of England’s adventure!

A friend is one of the nicest things you can have and one of the best things you can be.
