Abbie is now a freshman at Brown University with a major in BioChemistry. This year, Brown University had the largest applicant pool, 32,724 students, in the history of the school; Abbie is one of only 8.3% of the applicants accepted to the Class of 2021. Abbie’s goal is to attend medical school back on the west coast following her college graduation.
Abbie has taken many steps to make these dreams a reality. While at Mercy, Abbie completed a Cardiothoracic Surgical Skills Summer Internship at Stanford School of Medicine, was a grant writing intern for the American Red Cross, participated in the National Youth Leadership Forum: Medicine at UCLA, the Explore Program at Stanford, and a participant in the American Red Cross Leadership Development Center conference.
How did Mercy prepare you for your Ivy League career at Brown?
As a sophomore Abbie transferred to Mercy seeking a more challenging academic program, closer relationship with her teachers and a strong school community. “In three words: academics, opportunities and community! I received support not just from teachers, but also friends. I was a little scared of an all girls environment. But I realize now that it’s a true sisterhood. Mercy is such a friendly and loving place. From the moment I transferred, I knew that this was going to be my second home. Mercy brings out the best of you – I would have never have gotten to where I am without the support and encouragement that I have received at Mercy. ” —Abbie At Mercy, she experienced rigorous academics and small classes with dedicated teachers who provided individual attention to each of their
students. For Abbie, the opportunities were endless. Abbie was on Student Council both her junior and senior year, an Admissions Ambassador, a member of the Wellness Week Planning committee, founder of the Red Cross Club, an academic tutor, and a member of Students in Action, an ordinary club doing extraordinary things by putting faith in action through service. These opportunities both in and out of the classroom allowed Abbie to explore her passions and dreams. “ Abbie is a tremendous student with amazing potential. Any teacher would likely refer to her as their “dream student” as she does all that is asked and comes to her teachers with questions that are very well thought out. ” —Dr. Pat Bradley, AP Science and AP Computer Science Teacher
