60 YEARS
Always an educator, Sister Judy Carle has ministered in Mercy High Schools in Burlingame (1971 - 74 and 1976 - 81) and San Francisco. She moved into formation work with newer members and then served 16 non-consecutive years in Congregational leadership, including working to establish the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas in 1991. Sister Judy ventured into Mercy Housing before being elected Regional Community President in 1997. Current ministries include Dignity Health Board; Advisory Committee of Healing WELL for the homeless of San Francisco; Ambassador for Catherine Center, a residential program for formerly incarcerated women; and Coordinator for Mercy Volunteer Corps in San Francisco.

Sister Kathleen Connolly ‘58 taught in elementary schools in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Bakersfield for 22 years before volunteering to minister in the Appalachian region of Western Virginia. There she worked as a social worker for the poor. Sister worked for Child Protective Services in Redding and also for a Foster Family Agency before returning to the Bay Area. For three years she placed refugee minors whose parents had been killed in the fighting in Sudan and other parts of Africa with foster families in the San Jose area. She then spent close to one year teaching in a St. Bakhita’s girls’ school in Narus, South Sudan through the auspices of Mercy Beyond Borders.

Born in San Mateo, CA, Sister Mary Lois Corporandy ‘46 graduated from Mercy High School, Burlingame and earned degrees in biology, chemistry and administration at San Francisco State, and an M.T.S. in Mathematics at Catholic University of America. She taught elementary school at Our Lady of Angels and St. Catherine's. At Mercy High Schools, Burlingame and San Francisco, she served as dean, department head, vice-principal, assistant principal, and principal. She introduced Intersession, and the modular schedule. She became master scheduler, a position she held for 20 years. She served as a clinical laboratory scientist at St. Mary’s Medical Center, San Francisco and blood bank coordinator. She has served on the boards of Mercy High School Burlingame, Mercy High School San Francisco, Mercy Retirement and Care Center, and Saint Mary’s Medical Center where she was the first chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. In 2012 she retired to Marian Life Care Center.
