Dear Friends:

We are delighted to welcome you back to our Angel of Hope Gala at the beautiful Rainbow Room! For Renée as CEO and for Brian as Board Chair, this is our first time gathering in person with many of you and we are so happy to finally be able to experience and share with you this wonderful celebration of MercyFirst.

Tonight, we honor the work of hundreds of dedicated MercyFirst staff and thank our many friends whose support enables us to do the work. The work. That is what it all comes down to. Each year, the work is how we support over 3,000 children and families in need in New York City and Long Island. The work is how we provide life-affirming opportunities to struggling children and youth in our care, and how we strengthen at-risk families who face enormous and ever-changing obstacles.

While we wish we had the time to highlight for you all 16 of our innovative child and family services, tonight we are shining a spotlight on Bridges to the Future, a program that supports our foster care youth as they prepare for their futures.

MercyFirst’s Bridges to the Future program helps foster youth re-imagine their futures and find a path to becoming a successful adult. Bridges to the Future’s committed staff does the work of providing teens and young adults with skills and training to secure viable jobs, scholarship assistance to attend college or vocational school, financial assistance to maintain affordable housing in the community, and life skills coaches to guide them during this challenging transition out of foster care to adulthood.

This is the work. This is our commitment. This is our mission.

We invite you to learn more about our other programs and services, and how they are meeting the complex needs of children and families throughout the New York metropolitan area – whether it’s at one of our group homes and mother-child residences, our shelters for unaccompanied immigrant children, support services to strengthen and keep families together, our family foster care and adoption services, or our integrated medical and mental health services.

Please enjoy your evening and thank you for joining us tonight! Your generous support enables us to do so much more to inspire hope and promote healing for the children and families in our care.

With appreciation and gratitude, Renée & Brian

CARING FOR KIDS & FAMILIES SINCE 1894

MercyFirst is a not-for-profit human and social service agency that has been serving children and families in need since we were founded by the Sisters of Mercy/Hermanas de las Misericordia in 1894. Today, as a ministry of the Sisters of Mercy, our agency continues to address the emotional and physical needs of children and families in Brooklyn, Queens and across Long Island through innovative treatments and life-changing interventions. Through 16 programs in 7 program areas, every day MercyFirst is helping at-risk individuals overcome enormous obstacles and re-imagine their futures.

OUR PROGRAM AREAS

Family Foster Care & Adoption provides foster care children with a safe and loving home that promotes growth and development, enabling children to reach their fullest potential.

Group Care includes our Group Homes as well as other residential supports. These residences provide family-like, community settings to help meet the needs of children in crisis when staying at home is not possible.

Parent & Child Program provides foster care teens who are pregnant or parenting a stable place to live while they prepare for independence.

Family Support/Prevention Services provide community-based services that assist and support parents and other caregivers so that they develop the tools they need to raise their children in a safe and nurturing environment, and prevent them from entering foster care.

START with Hope provides short-term shelter to unaccompanied refugee children until they are reunified with a sponsor family.

Integrated Heath Services blends medical care and related behavioral and mental health factors that effect the health and well-being of children and families with complex needs, such as having experienced poverty, abuse, and family stress in their homes and communities.

Bridges to the Future supports our foster care youth as they prepare for the future through a range of youth development services.
