THE LITURGY OF THE WORD
First Reading: 1 Corinthians 13:1-7, 13
Charlotte Sorell
Reader: A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians:
If I speak in the tongues of humans and of angels but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable; it keeps no record of wrongs; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
And now faith, hope, and love remain, these three, and the greatest of these is love.
The word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm (sung): My Soul is Thirsting - Psalm 63
Steve Angrisano
All: My soul is thirsting for O Lord
Thirsting for you my God
My soul is thirsting for O Lord
Thirsting for you my God
Thirsting for you my God.

Gospel Acclamation (sung): Thy Word (A. Grant)
All: Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path
And a light unto my path
You’re the light unto my path.
Gospel: Matthew 25: 31-40
Deacon Andrew Kirkbride
Deacon: The Lord be with you.
All: And with your spirit.
Deacon: A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
All: Glory to you, O Lord.
Mercedes College Mercy Day Mass 2022 | Page 5
Deacon: Jesus said to his disciples: “When the Son of Man comes in his glory with all of his angels, he will sit on his royal throne. The people of all nations will be brought before him, and he will separate them, as shepherds separate their sheep from goats. He will place the sheep on his right hand and the goats on his left. Then the King will say to those on his right hand, “My father has blessed you! Come and receive the kingdom that was prepared for you before the world was created. When I was hungry, you gave me something to eat, and when I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink. When I was a stranger, you welcomed me, and when I was naked, you gave me clothes to wear. When I was sick, you took care of me, and when I was in jail, you visited me.”
Then the ones who pleased the Lord will ask, “When did we give you something to eat or drink? When did we welcome you as a stranger or give you clothes to wear or visit you while you were sick or in jail?”
The King will answer, “Whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how important they seemed, you did it for me.”’
The Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer
after Communion College Captain
Speaker: Today we have celebrated our Mercy Day Mass and Feast of Mary Mother of Mercy. We have also acknowledged our founder Catherine McAuley who is at the core of what it means to be a Mercy school.
During the week, Religious Education teachers were asked to view In God Alone, the story of Catherine McAuley, with their classes. In this film, we saw Catherine’s deep love for all and commitment to the service of others. We now offer you the time to reflect and listen to the Suscipe, a prayer written by Mother Catherine McAuley, the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy.
We invite Sister Nola Morrissy, Leader of the Sisters of Mercy, South Australia, to pray the Suscipe prayer.
Page 12 | Mercedes College Mercy Day Mass 2022
The Suscipe of Catherine McAuley
Sr Nola: My God, I am yours for time and eternity. Teach me to cast myself entirely into the arms of your loving Providence with the most lively, unlimited confidence in your compassionate, tender pity. Grant, O most merciful Redeemer, that whatever you ordain or permit may be acceptable to me. Take from my heart all painful anxiety; suffer nothing to sadden me but sin, nothing to delight me, but the hope of coming to the possession of You my God, in your everlasting kingdom. Amen.

Recessional Song: Never Gonna Let You Down (Colbie Caillat)
All: Low
When you’re feeling low And you just don’t know where to run to Broke
If your heart’s been broke
And you feel like you’re all alone
If you need something to believe in
If you’re looking for a light to guide you home
Just look inside
You light a shining brighter than you know And you should know.
Chorus: I’m never gonna let you down
I’m always gonna build you up
When you’re feeling lost
I will always find you love
I’m never gonna walk away
I’m always gonna have your back And if nothing else, you can always count on that
When you need me I promise I will never let you down.
Oooh oooh oooh...
Laugh
I will make you laugh
If you ever feel like crying
Close
I will hold you close
You won’t be alone anymore
If you need someone to believe in
If you’re reaching for a hand to guide you home
Just take my hand and I won’t let you go
I hope you know.
Chorus
If you need something to believe in
If you feel you’ve reached the end of the road
Don’t be afraid, I’ll always guide you home
You should know.
Chorus
