Electric powertrain and builder of highperformance electric boats, Vita, has appointed Clive Johnson as CEO of its Vita Power division.

Clive was the founder and CEO of Tacktick Ltd, which designed and manufactured solar-powered instruments for dinghies and yachts and was sold to Raymarine in 2011.

A mechanical engineer, Clive went on to set up and become CEO of Magma Structures, developer of carbon composites and builder of carbon superyacht masts.

Additional roles have included Technology Specialist at RS Electric Boats and, most recently, CEO of RAD Propulsion.

The Vita Power division develops allelectric powertrains for the recreational and commercial marine sector.

The powertrains deliver between 180hp and 600hp and are compatible with highspeed DC charging, supercharging from 10%-90% in under an hour.

Mark Hart has been appointed sales manager for Barrus Marine Equipment Division, supporting the continued growth within the company’s Marine Division.

Mark has spent most of his career in the marine industry in a variety of sales and marketing roles for the recreational, commercial and military sectors.

For more than 20 years, he held roles at Zodiac International initially as a sales representative for leisure boats through the UK dealer network, managing the Zodiac UK subsidiary and responsible for the distributor network for Zodiac in Northern Europe. Latterly he has been sales director for both Ocean Safety and Survitec.

“Life really does go full circle,” he said. “Spending the early days of my career at Zodiac it is exciting to join Barrus and see the progression of the brand in the UK. I am relishing the challenge of growing the extensive range of brands and products available from the Marine Equipment Division.”

Ali Rowley has joined Wave International as sales, customer and business development administrator and Bryan Stewart has joined the company to further develop and expand its European markets.

Ali has previous experience in customer service, logistics and problem solving and will provide service and support to Wave International’s customer base of internationally located marine leisure and commercial customers.

Bryan has experience of working with various marine and environmental brands including The Seabin Project, Vaikobi, Gill, Typhoon, Sola and Body Glove.

He will work with OEMs, dealers and distributors.

Wave International is a UK-based manufacturer and supplier of technical fi ltration products.

Chartwell Marine has appointed Dave Quested to a sales and business development role, and Rob Sime has been appointed principal naval architect.

They will support the commercialisation of Chartwell’s advanced vessel designs.

Rob and Dave join as Chartwell moves to new premises in Port Hamble to support team growth and improve waterside access for clients. Rob has more than 20 years of experience. He is a chartered engineer and has worked on the design and testing of high-performance vessels across the defence, yachting, ferry, workboat and off shore energy markets.

“What drew me to Chartwell was the diversity of projects,” he said. “I have R&D experience in optimising hull design, and that’s a core part of Chartwell’s off ering — one which can be adapted for practically any vessel type.”

Dave has been involved in the crew transfer vessel market since 2009 and was a founding member of off shore wind vessel designer and builder CTruk.

“My goal is to identify new clients and bring them into the fold in a way that benefi ts everyone involved, including the wider industry,” he said.

Matthew Johnston has been appointed MD for Lippert Marine Group Europe.

His role will encompass managing three of Lippert’s brands – Lewmar, Trend, and Taylor Made Ireland, which includes two sites in the UK and one site in Ireland.

Matthew has more than 20 years of experience in the industry and has held several positions within Lewmar including Custom and OEM sales manager, sales and marketing director, and most recently, group commercial director for Lippert’s Marine Group.

Since July 2019, he has acted as a Marine Group representative on the Lippert Corporate EU leadership board.

In his new role, Matthew will be responsible for growing the Marine Group footprint in Europe through product development and supporting acquisitions.

“It’s an exciting time to be leading the Marine Group as we develop the footprint for Lippert within Europe,” he said. “In order to expedite our growth in this evolving market, we are focused on the development of our people and culture, balanced with driving innovation through product design.”

Lennart Börjesson is to join Volvo Penta’s executive management group.

Lennart will take up the position of senior vice president planning, purchasing and product and solution development from September 1, replacing Peter Granqvist who will lead Volvo Group’s electromobility technology developments as senior vice president Volvo Group electromobility technology.

“Since this role is instrumental for Volvo Penta’s transition, I am very happy to welcome Lennart Börjesson to our team,” said Heléne Mellquist, president, Volvo Penta. “He will help us secure speed and execution which is extremely important going forward.”

Lennart joined the Volvo Group in 1985 and currently holds the position of senior vice president vehicle engineering at Volvo Group Trucks Technology.

AkzoNobel’s yacht coatings division has appointed Jemma Lampkin as global commercial director.

Jemma has previously held various roles at AkzoNobel, her most recent role was commercial management of AkzoNobel’s Aerospace Coatings Asia-Pacifi c business.

Her main objective in the new position will be to continue to grow the business and help deliver on the promises of its brands - Awlgrip, Interlux/International and Sea Hawk.

“The Yacht team is well-known for truly embodying ‘passion for paint’, so I am excited to work with so many enthusiastic individuals, while simultaneously learning about a whole new market,” she said.

“We have a role to play in shaping the yacht coatings industry through new innovation, engaging boaters and professionals, and attracting talent to the industry.”

The appointment follows investment from AkzoNobel into its most ambitious marketing drive for yacht coatings to date - including new brand positioning ‘That Feeling’, which seeks to convey the unique, immersive sensory experience that boating off ers.

Fischer Panda UK has appointed Louise Sims as commercial manager.

The role will have a focus on effi ciency improvements across the company while supporting marine sales managers.

“We have been very keen for Louise to start and are confi dent this new position will make a signifi cant contribution to our sales team,” said Chris Fower, Fischer Panda UK sales and marketing director.

“We have a clear strategy in place to grow and enhance our presence within the marine markets and this appointment is key to that.”

Louise added: “It’s a pleasure to be onboard with Fischer Panda UK, which is highly regarded and established within its respective industries. I look forward to making a diff erence to marine sales and other areas of the company.”

Mike Cole has been appointed to the board of directors at Bainbridge International as sales director.

He will sit alongside existing members: Laurence Mead, non-executive chairman, Andrew Smith, MD and Gavin Lacey, commercial director.

Mike has been with Bainbridge for around 17 years, initially as a sailcloth salesman. Over the years, he has held many roles at the company, most recently as sail and cover sales manager – distributor and export.

He has been involved with all aspects of product and account management, as well as planning for the domestic and export markets.

“It is a great pleasure to bring Mike on to the board of directors,” said Andrew. “His wealth of knowledge and experience both with Bainbridge and prior to that in the leisure marine industry gives him a solid foundation to move forward to this next chapter.”

He has been in the role for the last four years. In a statement, he explained that being appointed chief executive was an absolute dream come true.

“Being able to work to make a diff erence in the world of maritime safety, leading a group of people whose work continues to lead the way in protecting seafarers, saving lives at sea and fi nding alternatives to help in the battle against climate change, has been an absolute privilege,” he said.

Brian has led the agency as it has changed and developed to fi nd better ways to deal with the challenges of maritime safety.

He has been at the helm through the celebrations for Coastguard200 and headed work carried out on the safety of ships through survey and inspection.

In addition, he has been in charge during a successful audit of the UK Maritime Administration carried out by the IMO.

Keith Stevenson has returned to Marine Industrial Transmissions as marine sales and product manager.

Keith formerly worked for MIT’s marine sector for more than four years and will use his existing knowledge of the company’s products and customer base, to develop these relationships further while working to establish new opportunities for the business.

Working alongside operations manager, Chris Brtiner, Keith aims to extend the reach of MIT’s service capabilities across all marine sectors, covering all vessel sizes and types.

“Another strategic goal for MIT is to move towards more sustainable propulsion,” he said. “We are working to future proof our business and our customer’s operations, off ering innovative solutions that will make the transition to green power as smooth as possible for our customers.”
