Toray and Heidelberg Celebrate Long-Term Partnership Toray Graphics in the Czech Republic, a leading manufacturer of waterless offset plate technology, has reported that the long-term relationship between Toray and Heidelberg continues to deliver benefits to customers of both companies and to the industry as a whole.

Most recently, Toray installed a new Heidelberg Speedmaster XL75 5-color offset press in its Czech Republic R&D Centre, scheduled to open in 2018.

“We’ve been working with Toray for more than 30 years, since they first brought waterless offset plates to market,” said Joachim Hueber, Product Manager at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen. “About 20 years ago, Toray installed its first Heidelberg press for testing purposes; and today, we are proud to be included in Toray’s brand-new R&D Centre with the Heidelberg Speedmaster XL75. Customers are looking for the high quality that waterless offset printing delivers, especially for security printing applications, and they are also looking for more environmentally sustainable options, which waterless offset delivers.”

Hueber estimates the company installs between 10 and 15 waterless offset presses annually. “As we considered adding a new offset printing press to our R&D Centre, we compared the options available on the market and determined that most of the printing companies in Europe are using Heidelberg presses,” said Mitsunori Hayashi, General Manager Sales Department, Graphics Division of Toray. “In addition, our timing was fortuitous since Heidelberg had just introduced the Speedmaster XL75, a press

that is perfect for the niche markets we are addressing, including security printing and other specialty segments.

We are delighted to be continuing our ongoing relationship with Heidelberg.”

A key attraction of waterless offset printing, Hueber adds, is that it is a process proven to work. “When we are working with customers looking to add an offset press,” he states, “we take an in-depth look at all of their needs and requirements, including the applications they are producing today and those on the horizon. When waterless offset is the best solution, we have no hesitation in recommending it. And we also partner with Toray in providing the training required to ensure a successful installation. The training is critical; if the press operator hasn’t been properly trained, the company will think the problem is with the press. If you want to drive a Formula One race car but don’t

know how, you won’t be happy with that either.”

Hueber notes that while some segments within print are contracting, there are other segments that demonstrate good growth. “These are often segments in which waterless offset is the best choice,” he concludes. “This includes security printing, packaging and other specialty segments.”

Why Waterless Offset?

Not to be confused with dry offset printing, waterless offset is an attractive alternative to the flexographic printing process for short and medium run applications because of the lower print form preparation cost. In addition, the Toray's IMPRIMA line of waterless offset printing plates provides superior printing results on a wide variety of paper stock and non-absorbent substrates such as foils and synthetic materials.

Mimaki Pulls Out All the Stops at FESPA 2018 Mimaki has announced its participation in FESPA 2018, Europe’s largest exhibition for the wide format print industry. The brand’s full line of products will be showcased from 15 – 18 May at the Berlin event, including innovative solutions for the Sign Graphics, Industrial, Textile, and the rapidly developing 3D markets.

Mimaki will also be a key participant in several of FESPA’s special exhibits, such as the World Wrap Masters competition, Printeriors, and the new textile feature Print Make Wear. “FESPA is always an exciting show, but this year is shaping up to be the best ever,” said Ronald van den Broek, General Manager Sales at Mimaki Europe. “It provides a platform for Mimaki to show its wide range of capabilities in a variety of industry segments and we promise to give a real spectacle.

In line with FESPA’s theme ‘Where Print Takes Off’, we want to inspire visitors in ways that we have never done before, get them on board with Mimaki, and take their businesses to the next level.”

Sign Graphics

Mimaki’s flagship solvent and UV LED roll-to-roll machines will be on display. The spotlight, however, will fall on the UCJV300 series. First introduced in September last year, the UCJV300-160 is a technologically superior printer/cutter featuring ultra-low running costs and instantly dry ink, which allows printing to a wide range of materials, including PET film, fabric and heat sensitive media. Following the success of the product, Mimaki has announced three new smaller models: UCJV30075, UCJV300-107, and UCJV300-130, with print widths of up to 80cm, 109cm, and 136cm respectively.

Industrial Products

For industrial markets, Mimaki will display its full range of UV LED flatbed printers, from the award-winning A3- and A2-format machines all the way up to the grand format JFX200-2531, which boasts a print area of 2.5 x 3.1m.

Various possibilities will be demonstrated, including direct printing on 360-degree surfaces and print-andcut workflow in combination with cutting machines. For the latter, Mimaki will bring its latest flatbed cutting machine, the CF22-1225, and will feature a laser cutting machine in collaboration with Trotec.

Textile and Apparel

Visitors to the Mimaki stand will be able to watch both sublimation transfer and direct-to-textile printing in person, as well as get inspired by an extensive collection of textile samples. One of the highlights would be the Tiger-1800B, Mimaki’s robust textile printer for industrial level high volume production. Specifically engineered for the production of soft furnishing fabrics and fashion and apparel, the Tiger1800B delivers high print speeds of up to 385m2/h, strong build quality, and stunning print output.

Another highlight would be Mimaki’s presence at FESPA’s new Print Make Wear feature, at which a complete workflow of digital textile production will be showcased.

Mimaki will demonstrate the printing process with the Tx300P-1800.

Using its unique dual ink capability, this direct-to-textile printer can load both textile pigment and sub-

limation dye inks at the same time, enabling the machine to print on a wide range of fabrics without the need to change out ink systems.

3D

Mimaki’s well-received first foray into 3D market, the 3DUJ-553, can be seen in action at FESPA. Dubbed as the world’s first 3D printer capable of producing more than 10 million colours, the machine jets and instantly UV-cures successive fine layers of liquid photopolymer to create one or several models or parts. It also features water-soluble support material to deal with overhangs or complex shapes.

OMET to Show Off the new XJet Hybrid Solution at Print4All 2018

Heidelberg Optimises its Financing Structure

X6’s flexo printing and converting units, providing limitless flexibility, wide range of final application and consistent cost saving.

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has further optimized its financing structure and agreed to a new syndicated credit line with improved conditions with its banking group. By taking out the credit line with a higher total of €320 million and a term that runs until March 2023, the company is creating financial flexibility and longerterm planning certainty. Besides supporting the day-to-day operational business of the global organization, the new credit facility underpins the strategy of further expanding new digital business models, such as the newly established subscription portfolio.

This machine can assure reliability and excellent results with all kind of run lengths, with the advantage of getting to the final product always in a single passage: It will be a closer look into the future of label and packaging printing. During the exposition days, OMET will offer the possibility to visit their production sites in Lecco and Molteno, where the entire product portfolio, including the iFlex, the XFlex X6.0 and The Varyflex V2, will be available for a closer look and live demonstrations.

“This refinancing is another sign of the banks’ confidence in our strategic roadmap to a digital future,” said Dirk Kaliebe, CFO of Heidelberg. “The financial basis for our new digital technologies and business models has been secured for the long term. We have numerous options at our disposal for driving forward our growth strategy. At the same time, we are able to further reduce interest costs by optimizing the financial framework.”

The Print4All was conceived as a “business project” dedicated to the entire supply chain, in order to overcome the conventional segmentations between commercial printing, industrial printing and publishing market. The new format promotes a new point of view of the printing scenario with the chance to create new synergies and business networks.

The new credit line also gives Heidelberg more flexibility to pay off a proportion of the existing 8% bond due in 2022 ahead of time and under more advantageous conditions. Heidelberg is planning to reduce its financing interest by close to half to around €20 million in the medium term.

During the same days, visitors will have access to other trade fairs such as Ipack-Ima (packaging), Meat-Tech, Plast and Intralogistica that will take place in the pavilions nearby, using the same entry ticket. The players of every industrial sector will find a complete offer at the same time in a single varied context.

MULTIVAC Looks Ahead for a Successful 2018 As part of a press breakfast at Anuga FoodTec in Cologne, MULTIVAC looked back on a successful 2017 and presented its strategy for 2018, which also included a catalogue of measures for supporting the EU’s Plastics Strategy. In front of more than 50 journalists from home and abroad, Hans-Joachim Boekstegers, Director and CEO, gave an overview of the past year and a perspective on what can be expected from MULTIVAC in the coming months.

At the end of 2017 the number of employees was around 5,300 worldwide, and the turnover reached virtually the 1-billion-euro mark.

The order intake is currently above that of 2017, and Hans-Joachim Boekstegers expects a growth rate in 2018 “of more than ten percent despite a number of risks and challenges.” As regards the US market, Hans-Joachim Boekstegers does not however venture to make any reliable prognosis, given the “America First” policy of the current administration with its recently imposed import duties. It also remains to be seen, how the reactions from China and the EU impact on the global economy and world trade. “There is also some tension here in Europe, since Brexit and political uncertainty in Poland, Italy and Turkey, as well as volatile crude oil and raw material prices, continue to influence the investment climate in Europe.”

The future strategy of “Better Packaging and Processing” forms the framework of this for MULTIVAC, and it creates significant added value for customers.

In addition to complete lines, in which the company’s own portioning systems and slicers are integrated, MULTIVAC

is also presenting at Anuga FoodTec a complete product range for producing high-quality vacuum skin packs with MultiFresh. Examples of this process are shown on a high-output T 800 traysealer, as well as on a R 105 MF thermoforming packaging machine.

MultiFresh films, which MULTIVAC has developed in conjunction with leading film manufacturers, are run on both machines.

In addition to this, the trade fair highlights also include a labelling solution for the D labelling of packs, which is marketed under the name “Full-wrap labelling”. As with a banderole or sleeve, the label is completely wrapped around the pack, and this offers many possibilities for different types of pack design, as well as increasing the attractiveness of the packs at the point of sale.

Clear Statement on the EU Plastics Strategy

Hans-Joachim Boekstegers adopted a clear position on the EU’s Plastics Strategy. One third of the plastics-based packaging waste ends up in the environment, largely in the oceans, without any regulation, and in future there is likely to be a rise in packaging production. “We are therefore convinced, that a high degree of commitment and awareness of responsibility is required, not only by the plastics industry but also by all players in the process chain – this means product manufacturers, producers and packers as well as machine and film manufacturers, retailers and of course consumers.”

Overall however, Hans-Joachim Boekstegers sees the MULTIVAC Group as being well equipped for the challenges of the future. There is also positive news to report from the sales organisation and production sites. Last year MULTIVAC founded its own Sales & Service bases in Taiwan, Mongolia and Macedonia.

A further production hall is currently taking shape at the Wolfertschwenden site, as well as the new Slicer Application Center.

Marking & Inspection in Enger was also expanded. The CEO also announced further investment for the future: “We will continue to systematically drive forward the expansion of our sales and production sites, as well as working to extend our product portfolio.”

ASLAN Launches Transparent Digital Printing Film ASLAN, the German manufacturer of high quality self-adhesive films for special applications, has expanded its series of digital printing films with ultra-strong adhesion.

The self-adhesive film UltraTack transparent ASLAN DFP 06, especially designed for long-term applications, is now available for all

applications requiring a transparent film. Among all the advantages ranks especially the reliable adhesion on difficult surfaces including low-energy materials (such as plastic dustbins) but also on rough, uneven or cold surfaces.

The digital printing films of the

UltraTack range perform even well in application temperatures starting from 5°C (41°F).

The new self-adhesive film UltraTack transparent ASLAN DFP 06 is excellent qualified for applications requiring the substrate’s integration in the design.

Roland DG to Show Off New Print and Cut and UV-LED Solutions at FESPA 2018 Roland DG have announced that they will showcase the largest range of advanced print and cut, UV-LED and dye-sublimation solutions at the Global Print Expo 2018. There are a number of reasons behind this steady growth. The new patent pending weeding system called "Weed-Ex" will be presented at FESPA 2018 in Berlin.

The WITPAC-Team will demonstrate how easy it is to work with. In detail, the flexfilm is laminated two times and will be cut with a special software called CoCutPro. The software will allow to cut the material with different settings at the same time. First of all the outline will be cut as usual, but the inline will be cut twice.

The first carrier will be cut through.

The inline will stick on the second carrier while peeling off the first one. At the end you will have a complete weeded product without having to weed the in-lines.

“Weed-Ex will save you time and labor cost. While having less material loss due to mistakes in weeding, you are able to increase your working capacity and accept larger orders from your customers,” said the company in a statement.

Even the fervour surrounding the impending Royal Wedding is likely to result in royal-themed POS and in-store signage for the promotion of Royal merchandise. However, online retail does present its challenges, particularly during seasonal events.

Many online retailers are placing considerable emphasis on these, with ‘Black Friday’ in the period leading up to Christmas being the most notable example.

This growth can be viewed as a response to evolving demand in key segments: clothing, household textiles, displays and signage and technical textiles.

Soft signage – banners, flags and similar visual communications – continues to show promise as a segment where the creative freedom of digital production adds value. Household textiles, which covers upholstery, carpets and floor coverings, bed linen and curtains, is also a fast developing market segment. Although it is smaller and slower growing than the other key areas, technical textiles still provide clear opportunities for both generalist and specialist print service providers (PSPs), with applications such as automotive fabrics and protective clothing both expanding.

not be visible through the cloth.

This is frequently a problem with normal display cloth; it is too stiff and has too little stretch capacity to allow creases to fall out and many white creases will stay visible.

Furthermore, normal display cloth is just a little too translucent, and you can see the eventual aluminium reinforcement bars through the cloth. Display Stretch 240 is 100% crease-resistant. It is very densely woven with a fine yarn (83 Dtex), making it virtually opaque. Another result of using the fine yarn is that the colours are much more intense, and other textiles cannot compete with this eyecatcher. TTS is introducing this splendid new display textile at a very competitive price.

HP to Bring New Latex R Based Products at FESPA This Year ME Printer speaks to Mark Ward, the Regional Business Manager for HP Middle East and Saudi Arabia, about their participation at the recently concluded INDEX 2018 and their new Latex R series of solutions What was your key messaging at INDEX 2018?

Most customers would know that HP is either a printer company or a company that offers desktops, PCs and laptops. HP for many years has also been involved in the interior design and decor business. So, this year at INDEX we wanted to connect with interior designers, decorators, architects, print providers, applicators, and so on, to talk about our ecosystem for digitally printed materials.

Which products and solutions did you showcase at the event?

INDEX 2018 was all about the final consumers of the digital print. We did not show our printers at the event. Instead, we showcased the applications of our technologies.

These included wallpapers, floor coverings, lampshades, fabrics, and so on, on which you can print on to. We also showcased materials such as synthetic leather, which you can warp onto sofas and other upholstery. We showcased the whole set of applications, which interior designers could start using in their projects, from a digitally printed perspective.

What did you plan to achieve from your participation at the event?

Our key takeaway from the event was to spread awareness of the applications of our solutions among designers and architects.

Usually when they are thinking about potential solutions to use in their projects, they might go for analogue solutions, which make the end products uniform without any sort of personalization. With digital printing, they can now get many of the same properties of the traditional material, in addition to the customisation and

personalisation. This can make their projects unique.

Can you tell us about your Latex printing offerings?

Latex printing is a water-based printing technology, which allows you to print on different types of materials. This can be achieved with just one type of ink. That one type of ink is durable, and hence, it has scratch resistance and weather resistance properties.

So it is perfectly fine for projects wherein some sort of robustness is needed.

For instance, if you are in the food and beverage industry, you can use these inks in that environments safely without experiencing any sort of odours, compounds, leeching from the print, and so on.

So the environmental messaging is also there. We have recently announced the Latex R technology and the first series of products based on that technology will be seen at FESPA later this year.

What are the benefits of the Latex R technology?

For many years we have been doing flexible, which is roll to roll.

But many of our customers want to print on rigid-based materials such as plastics and metal, and print directly to them. So we will be releasing some products that will allow our customers to print directly onto rigid materials.

Our water based inks are better because inks from our competition are based on solvents or volatile compounds. There are some dangers involved with using such inks. With our water-based inks, there is no danger of odour and these inks can provide a high level of vibrancy. Thus, we offer stronger durability.

So printing presses can buy one machine and one set of inks for multiple applications. With competition presses, you can buy one machine, but you will need to keep on changing the inks, depending on the type of print job. With HP Latex technology, you get all the flexibility that other solutions on the market cannot offer.

What sort of milestones do you want to achieve this year?

So the first is we will be launching the Latex R series of printers that will allow us to move over to the rigid side, thus offering more solutions to our customer base. We also want to build an ecosystem around our solutions and technologies. This is the right way to get closer to our customers.

In terms of our participation at INDEX, it is estimated that the UAE design market will be worth $36 Billion in 2019. Digital printing allows you to customise print jobs and offer personalised solutions, which is very important in the design industry. With our unique solutions, we think we can address around 5-10% of the $36 Billion market in UAE.

Komal Sharma: Everybody wants to be competitive than their peers.

That is the biggest trend we have seen in the Middle East region.

Everyone wants to own the latest in technology to be ahead of their competition. Many also want to achieve more productivity, efficiency, and sustainability.

Everybody wants to become more and more sustainable and that is a trend we see everywhere on the market. And these are the exact reasons why the Kodak portfolio increasingly appeals to them.

What sort of pain-points according to you, do printing presses face today?

Komal Sharma: From a quality perspective, the printing presses have been able to produce the quality. However, it is a mix of quality and efficiency that is the most important thing. You can produce quality, but you might not be very efficient. And if you can add sustainability, you can bring more value to the table.

Many customers in this part of the world have also started adopting sustainable solutions. When we look at governments in the region, the UAE government is a leader in such initiatives. However, usually for being sustainable, it means more costs. But with our solutions it is more about sustainability with cost efficiency.

Building an Ecosystem Around Solutions, Partners and Customers ME Printer speaks to Chris Lynch, the Head of Production at Xerox about the company’s plans for 2018, the product roadmap and innovation in print solutions What sort of milestones does Xerox want to achieve this year?

The Middle East and Africa business is a big part of our overall business strategy globally. Unlike some parts of the world, printing, and in particular digital printing, is growing in this region. One of the first things that Xerox is doing, is letting our customers know how we are driving innovation, both in terms of products and technologies.

Increasingly, we are focusing on getting our partners to get printers to move over to digital and that will eventually be beneficial for all of us. We are building an ecosystem around our offerings, our partners, and our customers.

We want to identify partners who can help with growing our digital business, so we can bring end-toend solutions to the market.

Are presses migrating from legacy solutions to digital printing solutions in this region?

For sure. Our business has grown over the last ten years or so. It was in 1990, when Xerox introduced the first digital press, which coined the phrase “print on demand”. That was nearly 28 years ago. Since then, printers have been adopting digital printing solutions in a big way.

But, what we have seen on the market is that, printers have not just moved jobs to a digital press.

They are also speaking to clients

Are companies moving towards sustainable print solutions?

Sustainability is a good initiative in the print business. We have seen that various print, paper, and press manufacturers, have begun developing products that have a sustainability feature to them. Bringing products that is good for the planet, is not just good for the printers, but also for people around.

Xerox was one of the first companies to latch onto the green technology initiative. In my opinion, digital printing is possibly the cleanest printing solution available on the market. With digital presses, we can print only what is needed. So we print lesser than traditional and conventional offset.

Digital is green and we are now adopting new agile ways to help customers’ businesses become greener. What I mean by that, is having a digital conversation about ecommerce and so on. That way you are not sending paper invoices and so on, thus reducing wastage and helps you be more clean and green. We have seen a huge number of newspapers being printed less. All of this is part of the solution.

Tell us about Managed Print Services. Does Xerox offer these services?

Actually, one of the biggest part of Xerox’s business is global document outsourcing, of which managed print services is a part of.

We run the services and devices,

rather than the customers having to buy the products and hire people to manage them.

That is a growing part of our business. We saw that this started with printing solutions, but we also see potential of this solution in post room, mail, delivery, fulfillment, document management, archival, file storage, translation, and so on.

Xerox has been at the forefront of that business for some time now and our portfolio is growing.

Hence, Xerox has always been a part of the Gartner Magic Quadrant for those services.

Tell us about your product roadmap for this year.

Inkjet is a growing part of our technology business and you will continue to see new products coming out in that space. That does not mean our legacy business of toner-based machines will stop. There will still be flexo and offset solutions.

Digital will also play a role in the cut-sheet toner-based form, in an inkjet form. Earlier this year, we announced the launch of a cut-sheet inkjet product. We are offering the ease and flexibility of a cut-sheet engine, but combining it with the economics of inkjet. That is a very good combination and Xerox will continue to bring innovative products to the market.

Offering Tailor-Made Solutions ME Printer speaks to Vinay Krishnan, the General Manager at Afra Asianray Printing Equipment about the products they carry in this region and their plans for 2018 Tell us about your participation at the recently concluded GPP Summit 2018.

Afra along with its dedicated divisions such as our flexible business unit called Flexo Print Pack, participated at the GPP Summit 2018 to showcase our range of products and solutions to the summit’s attendees.

The GPP Summit was actually an excellent initiative to participate in. In the summit, we brought our smart on-demand label press. This is actually a tabletop label press, which can also do long runs.

Apart from our flexo partners eDale and flexo label finishing partners GM from Denmark, we also showcased Trojan’s range of products. Trojan is a company from Denmark, which produces label presses. These label presses can print on film substrates, paper labels, and other substrates that come with some sort of coating on the top. With these presses, we are focusing on brand owners, commercial presses, and digital presses in the region.

What sort of demand do you see in the label industry in the region?

There are all sorts of on-demand label requirements. These demands come from companies that are into the fresh food sector, chemical factories, brand owners and so on.

If you are into producing unique labels, then this is the perfect solu-

tion. There are no operating skills required to run these machines.

They are also easy to use and are quite rugged. Hence, these can also be used in a 24 x 7 scenario.

Our partner eDale is very famous for autonomous solutions, focusing on flexo packaging. The press is so autonomous, that it can adjust by itself based on the print job. It can also do 100 percent inspections on its own. From a roll of paper to die-cut blanks, that’s the kind of solutions we offer on the market.

Which other products do you offer on the market?

We also have unique solutions in terms of in-line flexo press. These presses are very versatile flatbed die-cutting units. These machines can be the right solution for inline

packaging production. It can also do labels. It can do from 12 microns to 600 microns. A wide range of materials can be used.

We have many customer success stories wherein they are moving into inline packaging solutions from offline. Afra is a provider in the packaging and finishing sector. Trojan is also a very successful product. We have sold more than 400 units in Europe for short and mid-run labels.

GM, another partner of ours, is a company in Denmark, which is into label finishing and flexible finishing for more than two decades. We are their distributors for markets such as GCC, East Africa, and West Africa.

What sort of market trends do you foresee for this region in the upcoming months?

Demand for labels is growing. Of course people need very special solutions, rather than mass products.

We believe in supplying tailor-made solutions rather than giving the same kit to all the customers we work with. We are really trying to give specialised solutions as per the requirements of each printer.

We are a company that believes in consultancy, and hence, we base everything on offering tailor-made solutions.

The year 2017 was indeed a challenging year. However, for Heidelberg, it was not a very bad year. We had some great success sotires on the market in different industries such as packaging, flexo, and security printing. We also had some commercial customers going for new machines, which is good for the industry. In terms of consumables and digital solutions, we have also done well. The consumables market has improved a lot, especially on the plate and ink side. So we look forward that this will continue this year, going forward.

Which markets do you focus on from the Dubai office?

From our Dubai office, we cover the entire Gulf region and the Iraq market. Of course, the UAE remains the leading market in the Gulf region. We also hope that the Iraq market will start moving in the right direction and it will offer some new opportunities in the future. Together with our sales partners around the region, we ensure the implementation of our customers’ requirements and our continuous development on the market.

What sort of digital printing offerings do you sell on the market?

Many new packaging companies are opening shop in the region.

A lot more companies will open up packaging facilities in the region, since this market has been growing a lot. And those companies which recently started will expand their facilities for sure.

However, there are challenges involved with this proposition.

Since many customers are trying to move into packaging, it will create a lot of supply in the market and there will be a saturation after some point of time. We hope it offers more opportunities to companies that innovate in the packaging industry.

What events have you planned for this market this year?

This year, we just participated in the GPP Summit. We will also do some local events such as the Packaging Days. This will kickstart in May this year. We will also have some open houses for digital solutions as well in this region.

Is there a lack of skillsets in the regional print and packaging industry?

Actually, there are skills in the region and Dubai can always hire people from outside as well.

Having skillsets is not an issue, updating the skillsets is. Hence, Heidelberg is committed to keeping its partners and customers updated on the latest techniques and technologies available on the market. We keep on training operators for instance, so that they are abreast with the latest solutions on the market. More has to be done on the workflow, too, and not on just operating the machine. There are new technologies that people have to adapt to, such as web to print, and other such technologies in the digital medium.

How do you ensure your partners sell better than competition?

We offer lots of consultancy services for our customers. We are working very closely with them and giving them advice. We do not oversell and we give them the right product so that they can perform at an optimum level at a cheaper price. We want to provide tailor-made solutions to our customers through our partners and that I think should be the way forward to succeed in the market.

What sort of milestones do you plan to achieve this year?

In general, we are always aiming to have higher market share both in machines and consumables.

We will have our focus on digital, too. Heidelberg is developing many new products in the digital arena. Also, some of our partners such as Polar have the laser cutters which are related to digital as well. On the flex side we have Gallus launching new digital products. So we will be focusing on digital in the market.

A Lot Has Changed the Way People Print ME Printer speaks to Anand V. Joseph, the Vice President for Sales and Product Management at Blue Rhine, about the company’s plans for 2018 and the challenges the market is currently facing How was 2017 for Blue Rhine?

In terms of printing trends, one of the biggest difference we have seen is that printers are changing to permanent prints, rather than more temporary or promotional prints.

This is especially true, due to the wide spread adoption of digital signage. So, fortunately we were also able to work on the digital signage arena, by partnering with Philips to distribute their range of screens to digital signage integrators.

Hence, this has changed the way people print, because now print is required for storage. It is now more about permanent prints which will not get changed on a promotional or monthly basis. For that we already have digital signage solutions, that can change the content on demand.

This has helped the print industry to move from cheap and economical products to more premium and durable solutions such as high-end floor graphics, high-end textiles, and high-end banners that can be used in retail stores, for instance.

We see companies moving towards high-end rigid substrates that can be used in print, especially in the retail side of things.

What trends do you see in the digital solutions arena?

Many of the offset printers who have not entered into the digital arena are struggling. The need and the buyers for offset has decreased a lot in recent years. So, demand for long runs have come down drastically. But offset companies that have started to make a push into digital have the flexibility of providing customers with short run jobs who need just a few printouts and so on. There has been a sort of resistance from traditional offset printers, because the cost per square meter is expensive than digital. However, digital makes

sense for customers looking for short runs and it will eventually benefit the entire industry.

Have you planned for any roadshows in the region?

We are now established in five countries of the six in the GCC, such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, and UAE. This year, we want to bring our products closer to our customers in those other GCC countries where they don’t have a dedicated signage shop.

Last year, we had huge success in Oman, where we set up small booths in rented areas for each of our key products such as Aslan premium print products. We also set up some of our machines for demo purposes, some of our rigid substrates were also on display, and so on. Suppliers also participated in these events supporting us in every way possible. These events went on for a couple of days, depending on the market size. We plan to run similar roadshows in other markets throughout the year.

What sort of paint points do printers face today?

Competition is the biggest pain point for printers. The amount of print buying has drastically reduced probably due to less footfall in stores. Economic sentiment has also not been great. For instance, if in the earlier years, there were 100 print jobs on the market and only 90 printers, everybody had the opportunity to ask the pricing they wanted and there was enough job to sustain the market.

Today, there are 50 print jobs on the market and 90 printers. Thus, everybody is struggling to maintain their margins and that is a big pain point. There are ways to overcome this challenge through use of new technologies for sure.

The Print Industry Has a Far Reaching Impact on Businesses in General ME Printer speaks to Tina Mandla, Marketing Manager at Tarsus Group, about her experience working in the global print industry, the challenges it offers and the opportunities present.

Tell us about your leadership style and philosophy.

I believe that great leaders are those who successfully make leaders out of their followers. When you enable someone to rise above themselves and achieve great things, that’s when you have successfully played your role as a leader. I consider participative leadership as my style, which allows me to get the best out of my team but will not hesitate to make an executive decision where necessary.

What made you choose Printing and Graphics Industry as a career opportunity?

I believe this sector has far reaching impact on business in general, and in marketing/branding which is of course great interest to me. I have an events background and have managed events in the Middle East in the past. In 2015 I was assigned to Gulf Print and Pack and have loved doing the show ever since.

Especially in the Middle East, commercial printing is projected to lead the world in terms of growth which makes this show and my job extremely interesting.

How has your unique background prepared you for success in the industry?

Being in the events industry allows me to meet a lot of people. The kind of relationships I have established with various industry stakeholders has helped a lot. As in any business, especially in this part of the world, establishing positive, professional relationships is key to success.

What advice would you give to women looking to break into the field of print and related industry?

Understand the business and establish good relationships. The technicalities may be a bit daunting at first; but devote some time to understanding the industry’s in’s and out’s. This will help anyone make a good impression and hopefully succeed.

What is the greatest transformation in the printing that you’ve witnessed in your career?

What’s next for you in terms of your career in the printing industry?

My aim is to help the Gulf Print & Pack show grow even more, and enable it to be a better platform for industry stakeholders as well as a forum for new. Over the longer term, I hope to create and manage a wider portfolio of events.

The move towards digitization and adoption of new print technologies. It’s amazing how quality has improved drastically, production times have been cut and there are many more new innovations that we can expect that will be made possible by newer technologies that will emerge.

What are your thoughts on the next transformation in the print and graphics industry?

We will see a lot more innovations as well as new applications. Security features to fight counterfeiting and piracy will also be a big thing.

Are you involved in any sort of volunteer work?

Can you give us some details?

I am not involved in any specific charity but do help on a regular basis some groups related to environmental advocacy.

Leibinger Showcases the LENservo 12 numbering system that sets twelve number and letter wheels in a fraction of a second. The machine was showcased for the first time at the Security Printers trade fair, which took place in Dublin between March 21 and 23, 2018.

The euro note is a small marvel of security technology. Holding a 20-euro note against the light, the portrait of mythological figure Europa appears – a hologram that annoys counterfeiters to no end. If you turn the note around, another security feature appears: a twelve-digit security code consisting of two letters and ten numbers.

Security printers will be numbering banknotes, passports and visas even more effectively in the future.

This is because German numbering specialist Leibinger from the Danube valley developed the LENservo 12 – a

To add codes such as these, printers use numbering systems that are mounted on rotating cylinders and can print entire sheets of banknotes in one go.

The challenge is that, for each rotation, the numbering systems need to set a new security code before inking – and in no more than just a few milliseconds, since modern printers print up to 12,000 banknote sheets per hour. The solution developed by the Leibinger company, which has been developing numbering systems since 1948, making it one of the industry pioneers, is the Lenservo 12 electronic numbering system.

The LENservo 12 helps print shops become more efficient. All twelve number and letter wheels are equipped with powerful servomotors that operate at up to 80,000 revolutions per minute. For comparative purposes, Formula 1 engines have a speed limit of around 15,000 revolutions per minute. This means that if a banknote is printed, the servomotors set a new security code in just 80 milliseconds.

Flexo Printing Machine Tandon, President and CEO of Engineering Business of Uflex said, “Uflexo Elisa as we have chosen to call it, is an 8 colour central impression gearless flexo printing machine with an additional station for special purpose registered coating applications.

We are the only converting machines manufacturer in India to have achieved this feat.

The handshake between India’s largest fully integrated multinational flexible packaging materials and solution company Uflex and Italian firm Comiflex SRL that was announced during DRUPA 2016 has borne its first fruit.

The first ever Made in India Gearless Central Impression Flexo Printing Machine is now ready at Uflex’s Engineering Plant at Noida, India.

Explaining specific details about the machine, Sanjay Malik Sabharwal, Executive Vice President, Engineering Business said, “The central impression (C.I.) cylinder is a double walled steel drum with a diameter of 1400mm mounted on self-alignment roller bearings, rectified and provided with water circulating system. High precision digital ratio encoder is connected in axis with the C.I. cylinder to give a perfect synchronisation between central impression, plates and anilox mandrels.

We have deployed a patented technology to reduce the consumption of solvent required in cleaning the press, bringing it down from 100% to almost 10%. Not only does this save on solvent but also on time and energy. Uflexo also offers auto colour registration and correction. Uniform temperature is maintained around the CI drum for achieving better printing.”

Cutting-Edge Tech Developments for Label Printing The global market for label printing has been growing steadily in recent times, valuing at $36.98 billion in 2017. The market will continue to increase at annual average growth rate of 4.1% in value terms to reach $45.22 billion by 2022.

Asia is the largest geographic market for printed labels, having experienced annual growth rates of 8.0% in value terms from 2012 to 2017.

North America and Western Europe are the next two largest markets for printed labels, and these three regions make up 85% of global volume demand and 87% of the global value.

Lightweighting of Label Formats

The packaging industry and its customers are continually moving towards decreasing the weight of product packaging, e i t h e r using thinner rigid containers,

whether metal, glass or plastic; or by switching to flexible plastic formats.

Labels are also contributing to this drive for weight reduction, with product manufacturers either using smaller labels, or labels produced from thinner materials.

Material science developments have aided the reduction in volume and thickness of label materials, while maintaining the strength for handling and printing processes. In addition to the reductions in material that will be used for the labels, thinner materials offer other advantages to both the label printer and its customers. Printers can use rolls with longer lengths so that there is less downtime to splice on a new roll, and label users will receive more labels on longer rolls that are lighter and easier to manage.

NestlĂŠ Waters North America has reduced the size of labels on its bottles by 35%, in addition to using lighter

weight bottles. These initiatives have resulted in an annual saving of nearly 30,000 metric tonnes of plastic and 4,500 tonnes of paper.

Recyclability

Recyclability of packaging materials is of growing importance globally, and local authorities around the world are introducing and improving recovery schemes for household and industrial waste. The label is a relatively small part of the packaging, but the choice of materials can play an important role in recycling processes.

Labels can affect the purity of the plastic that is recovered, or potentially make mixed plastic packaging unrecyclable. Most reclaimers pre-wash recovered plastic bottles with very hot water or steam, shrinking the bottle slightly to loosen dirt and remove as much of the labels as possible before granulation.

The purity of the recovered plastic granules will depend on how easily the adhesive can be removed. Development of new label adhesives have been introduced to ensure that the bond is

broken completely, resulting in high purity reyclate. A practical example of this can be found in Avery Dennison’s CleanFlake, a water-based recyclable adhesive.

The adhesive is designed so that the cohesive bond is only broken during the sink-float process, allowing the label and adhesive to cleanly separate from the granules to give pure PET flakes.

Greater Automation in Label Printing

New demands on label printers for shorter print runs, faster turnaround, and greater flexibility and customisation is driving the label printing industry towards higher levels of automation.

Printers are investing in sophisticated management information systems (MIS) that are integrated with specialised inspection and colour performance software and technology, and even fully automated press and finishing line set-up systems.

The ultimate objective is to establish a capability for running completely automated and streamlined workflows 24 hours per day, that receive job orders by electronic data interchange.

The new automated systems can utilise the potential of Cloud computing and the Internet of Things to liaise with shipping carriers, set up invoices and receive payment advice, and use Wi-Fi for remote access and control of production processes.

Automation is also being applied to warehouse management and the preparation of shipments to customers. Higher levels of automation mean that the role of the employees is changing, and new skill sets are required from those of traditional printers.

Premiumisation is the process by which the apparent quality of a product can be enhanced by using expensive-looking labels or packaging, without making any fundamental changes to the product itself.

Anti-Counterfeiting Solutions

Counterfeiting continues to affect the pharmaceuticals industry, as well as other industries solutions that include electronics, food, wine, spirits and high-end cosmetics. It is estimated that it affects 5–7% of world trade.

Manufacturers and customers may also need to cope with problems caused by package tampering and theft throughout the shipping channel.

There are a variety of new options available to the label printer to produce premium labels. In addition to presenting a higher-quality looking design, the printer can use different print effects to embellish the labels to give them a more ‘expensive’ appearance.

Manufacturers and despatch companies have introduced a variety of security features onto product labels and packaging to reduce the effects of counterfeiting, and new measures are continually being introduced as the counterfeiters become more sophisticated. These methods include glues that make labels harder to remove and and sophisticated integrated designs.

The substrate for the label can also play an important role in presenting a high-quality image, either from the appearance of the base colour onto which the details are printed, or by imparting tactile or haptic effects using a process like spot varnishing.

The fine wine and spirits segments are seeing the arrival of a number of bespoke labels intergating a number of security features that allow customers to verify the authenticity of their purchase via QR codes linked to secure company websites.

Smithers Pira’s analysis identifies the following five the main developing areas and technologies that are pushing the market forward and are helping align with the evolving needs of the consumer.

The marketplace continues to demand functional and barrier coatings for paper and paperboard that will provide added benefits to the product, retailer and consumer.

This is fuelling demand for more responsive and active packaging – including antimicrobial products and environmentally sensitive functional coatings.

Growth is being aided by an improved global economy and the evolvement of underdeveloped countries and regions. In terms of specific markets, the Asia-Pacific sector will represent over 54% of worldwide functional and barrier coatings use by 2022, up from 46% in 2012. The Western, more developed markets, will show more modest growth in demand. Global growth opportunities are achievable across all regions.

The largest volume trend in technology is the rapid growth of bio-based polymer alternatives to replace petroleum-based plastics like polyethylene in extrusion applications. Nanopolymers and formulated water-based polymers utilising a variety of structured pigments are also being used more.

Active and Intelligent Packaging

Responsive packaging systems designed to react to stimuli in the food or the environment, to enable real-time food quality and food safety monitoring or remediation, is a growing field of use. These coatings are capable of exhibiting changes in physical or chemical properties in response to external stimuli – including pH, temperature, light and biological activity among others – thereby eliminating waste. Antimicrobial packaging is another area of emerging ‘intelligent’ coating technology interest, and it is rapidly advancing with the application of nanotechnology and natural antimicrobials.

Focus on E-commerce

The ever-growing e-commerce market is also playing a role in future growth in paperboard packaging applications, and functional and barrier coating technology will be developed to provide the properties needed to ship more products directly to shoppers worldwide. Food products in particular need insulating, and lower cost and sustainable products are being sought to replace expanded polystyrene, wax, polyethylene, PVdC products and the other nonsustainable materials currently used.

In developed markets, the arrival of online services, such as Deliveroo and Hungry House, is aligning with a trend for more home delivery – over 30% of US citizens now get food delivered twice a week, and

this trend is estimated to grow at 3% CAGR for the next five years.

This is expanding the range of menu choices available. High street fast-casual outlets have embraced this trend and, as they do so, are keen to maintain a superior brand experience, delivering meals in innovative designs with high-grade graphics in coated paperboard a popular format.

Sustainability Agenda

Paperboard will continue to compete with plastics and other materials for packaging, and a variety of other uses.

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is broadly used to ship fresh seafood, package takeaway food items, cups, plates, coolers and other uses.

EPS is water-resistant, low-cost, lightweight, insulating and structurally attractive for many of these applications, but unattractive from an environmental standpoint.

Another use for EPS that will face pressure is the overnight shipment of frozen foodstuffs ordered online. Trends will continue to replace EPS with paperboard alternatives, using different combinations of formulated water-based coatings, innovative paper and paperboard treatments, and product design changes. Functional and barrier coated paperboard is also replacing treated wood in some packaging applications where sustainability is an issue, or where lighter weight alternatives are desired.

Ox-Box, a US-based company, has developed a paperboard product using functional coatings and treatments that is fully recyclable, lightweight and can withstand the elements of severe weather, without sacrificing the strength needed to perform in service. The Ox-Box product is replacing wood crates for shipping equipment, mechanical parts and chemical products.

Intelligent Printing

There is also competition in supermarket freezers, where products need to stand out to consumers with a limited time to make a decision. Brands are putting pressure on printers and converters to deliver more colourful and interactive packaging, with highend finishing, like hot foiling, spot varnishing and embossing.

Major Tech Advancements in the UV/EB Curing Print Market

According to The Future of Radiation Curing Print Markets to 2022, print produced using radiation curing (UV and electron beam) inks and varnishes in 2017 totalled roughly 1.38 trillion A4 prints, a value of $63.4 billion. The market is growing at around 2-3% annually in tonnage terms.

With ink revenues growing faster than the overall graphics and packaging market, users are taking advantage of instant drying to improve their production efficiencies and exploit both decorative and functional properties of the inks and coatings. Radiation curing not only saves time by instant drying but it also enables various efficiencies across a wider production process.

While print volumes in graphics generally is falling by 3.0% per year between 2012 and 2022, the radiation curing print segments of this, and the still booming packaging market, are poised to expand market share. Radiation curing volume will grow by 25.0% by volume and 33.6% in value terms across this period.

Smithers Pira identifies the key developments in ink and varnish formulation and curing technolo-

gies that are underpinning this expansion.

Low-Energy UV Curing

UV curing methods are changing.

The majority of ultraviolet drying in 2017 is still carried out using mercury vapour quartz lamps, but these take time to warm up and there are potential health and environmental hazards at end-oflife.

These limitations are amplifying the benefits of low-energy curing.

This curing system is designed to dry the print using much less energy than the traditional mercury vapour lamps, with a single mercury doped lamp.

The system uses special inks that command a premium over the traditional UV curing inks and varnishes. These lamps do not emit the shorter UV wavelengths that generate ozone, removing the need for ozone extraction.

They produce less waste heat, so require less cooling, which further reduces the power consumption.

The technology is now being taken up in North America and Europe.

Low-energy curing can be used on perfecting presses with two lamps to dry each side, and Komori has

commercial web presses using H-UV technology instead of a hot air oven, thus reducing the press footprint – which is important in its home market of Japan, where the very high cost real estate make space saving potentially a significant cost advantage.

UV LED Curing

UV LED curing uses light-emitting diodes that emit a narrow band of UV, delivering a peak of UV energy, which provide a broad distribution of output across the spectrum, including visible and infrared.

LED curing offers even less energy than the low-energy mercury bulb UV systems, and there is an instant on-off, which can reduce further the downtime required in waiting for the lamps to come to full power, as well as providing significant energy savings through synchronisation of cure with ink laydown.

The drawback is limited availability of suitable inks, and the high cost premium currently associated with them. The range of UV LEDs commercially available is growing, shadowing LEDs wider use in general lighting installations. Printers that are already using UV LED are reporting energy consump-

tion as much as 70% lower than conventional UV systems. Another attraction of UV LED systems is their colour brilliance, stemming from higher pigment content.

The proportion of electron beam in radiation curing remains low, at just 4–5% in 2017, with most in North America and lower elsewhere.

UV LED is moving beyond niche applications into higher-volume segments in some European countries, such as sheetfed printing, where the technology has the advantage of being able to provide high colour strength.

Electron Beam Curing

Electron beam curing uses a highpowered electron beam to initiate the free radical polymerisation reaction. A curtain of accelerated electrons is emitted towards the printed surface, in an evacuated chamber.

The energetic electrons pass through a titanium window foil towards the wet ink, the energy is absorbed by the ink layer and the curing process takes place.

The benefit of the technology is the penetration of electrons into the body of the inkfilm, rather than just at the surface, ensuring good through-curing. It is widely used in the Americas on wide web presses, but less so in Europe.

There are developments to broaden its use through lower-cost and smaller EB curing units, including for the first sheetfed processes, and ink technology to broaden the use on flexo and gravure presses.

Low Migration Inks and Coating

As radiation curing is widely used in food, pharmaceutical and tobacco packaging, it is important that no components can migrate from the print into the product and cause any organoleptic effects.

This is particularly important in tobacco packaging, where the criteria for odour-free and migrationproof packaging are driven by the fact that tobacco is hygroscopic.

Odour and taint are potential issues for all converters. Ink manufacturers are formulating low-migration inks using selected components, which should ensure that migration from the resultant printing ink film will be within accepted migration limits. Ink formulators may choose components from the known range of

approved ingredients, or choose the new classes of materials becoming available that offer inherently lower potential contamination.

This issue is now being approached via new legislation announced in 2017 in the EU, and other markets like Japan.

Hybrid Inks

Several ink manufacturers are exploring new methods of formulating inks to broaden the range of applications for UV and electron beam inks and to improve their performance on press. In flexible packaging on common impression flexo presses there is limited space for interdeck drying, and ink manufacturers are developing UV and EB curing inks with water or solvents.

These act as diluents, and there is a degree of evaporation at the print stage that enables improved wet-on-wet trapping. There are developments in water-based electron beam gravure printing, for example IdeOn at Amgraph Packaging in Connecticut uses water as a diluent for electron beam-curable gravure inks.

A significant advantage of these hybrid inks is that they are not classified as hazardous materials, which traditional 100% solid UV inks and coatings are.

This means manufacturers do not have to apply a hazardous chemical label onto the pack, and they can be transported in bulk – whereas a UV ink categorised as hazardous cannot be transported in a container larger than 25 litres.

‫إعادة التدوير‬

‫ليبينجر تقدّم طابعات لينسرفو ‪12‬‬ ‫ستقوم الطابعات األمنية بترقيم األوراق‬ ‫النقدية وجوازات السفر والتأشيرات بفعالية‬ ‫أكبر في المستقبل‪ ،‬وذلك ألن صاحب شركة‬ ‫ليبينجر (‪ )Leibinger‬األلماني المنحدر من‬ ‫وادي نهر الدانوب والمتخصص في نظم‬ ‫الترقيم ط ّور نظام لينسرفو‪Linservo( 12‬‬ ‫‪ )12‬وهو نظام ترقيم يث ّبت اثنتي عشرة‬ ‫عجلة لألرقام والحروف في جزء من الثانية‪.‬‬ ‫وقد ُعرضت هذه الطابعة للمرة األولى في‬ ‫معرض طابعات األمنية الذي أقيم في دبلن‬ ‫في الفترة الواقعة من ‪ 21‬إلى ‪ 23‬من شهر‬ ‫مارس‪ /‬آذار لعام ‪.2018‬‬ ‫تمثل ورقة اليورو النقدية معجزة مصغرة‬ ‫لتكنولوجيا األمنية‪ ،‬فعندما ترفع ورقة ‪20‬‬ ‫يورو مقابل الضوء تظهر لك صورة الشخصية‬ ‫األسطورية يوروبا – وهي صورة ثالثية األبعاد‬ ‫تشكل معضلة ال تنتهي بالنسبة للمزورين‪.‬‬ ‫أما إذا قلبت الورقة النقدية على الطرف اآلخر‬ ‫ّ‬ ‫فستظهر لك سمة أمنية أخرى‪ -‬وهي رمز‬ ‫أمني يتكّون من اثنتي عشرة خانة تضم‬ ‫حرفين وعشرة أرقام‪ .‬وإلضافة مثل هذه‬ ‫الرموز‪ ،‬تستخدم الطابعات أنظمة ترقيم‬ ‫ُتركّب على أسطوانات دوارة مما يمكنها من‬

‫ماهى أبرز التحوالت التى شهدتها‬ ‫صناعة الطباعة؟‬

‫التحرك نحو الرقمنة واعتماد تقنيات‬ ‫الطباعة الجديدة‪،‬إنه ألمر مدهش كيف‬ ‫تحسنت الجودة بشكل كبير‪ ،‬فقد تم خفض‬ ‫أوقات اإلنتاج‪،‬كماان هناك العديد من‬ ‫االبتكارات الجديدةالتي يمكن أن نتوقع أن‬ ‫تصبح ممكنة بفضل التقنيات الحديثة‪.‬‬

‫كيف سيكون التحول التالي في‬ ‫صناعة الطباعة؟‬

‫سوف نرى الكثير من االبتكارات باإلضافة إلى‬ ‫التطبيقات الجديدةالتى تساهم فى مكافحة‬ ‫التزوير والقرصنة‪.‬‬

‫عام ‪،2015‬التحقت للعمل فى شركة‪Gulf‬‬ ‫‪ Print and Pack‬وأحببت االستمرار فى هذه‬ ‫الصناعة‪،‬خاصة في الشرق األوسط‪،‬الذى من‬ ‫المتوقع ان يشهد ارتفاع فى معدل النمو فى‬ ‫مجال الطباعة‪،‬الفترة المقبلة‪،‬كما أن العمل‬ ‫فى مجال التسويق هو شغفى الخاص‬ ‫ودائما ما يثير اهتمامى‪.‬‬

‫الأشارك في أي مؤسسة خيرية محددة‬ ‫ولكني أساعد بشكل منتظم في بعض‬ ‫المجموعات المتعلقة بالدعوةالبيئية‪.‬‬

‫كيف ساهمت تجاربك السابقة‬ ‫فى الوصول النجازاتك الحالية في‬ ‫الصناعة؟‬

‫ما الخطوة التالية بالنسبة لك‬ ‫فيما يخص مهنتك في مجال‬ ‫الطباعة؟‬

‫العالقات الوطيدة التى أقمتها مع العديد‬ ‫من المشتغلين فى الصناعة ساعدتنى كثيرا‪،‬‬ ‫لذلك أعتقد ان تأسيس عالقات إيجابية‬ ‫ومهنية هو مفتاح النجاح‪ ،‬كما إنه من الجيد‬ ‫ان يسمح لى مجال عملى بمقابلة الكثير من‬ ‫الناس‪،‬خاصه فى هذا الجزء من العالم‪.‬‬

‫هل تقومين‪ ‬بأي نوع من العمل‬ ‫التطوعي؟‬

‫هدفي هو مساعدة برنامج ‪Gulf print‬‬ ‫‪ &pack‬على النمو بشكل أكبر‪،‬وتمكينه‬ ‫من أن يكون منصة أفضل للمشتغلين‬ ‫في الصناعة‪،‬أما على المدى الطويل أتمنى‬ ‫إنشاءوإدارة مجموعةأوسع من األعمال‪.‬‬

‫فهم العمل وإقامة عالقات جيدة ستساعد‬ ‫كثيرا‪ ،‬وقد تكون فى البدايةاالمور الفنية‬ ‫صعبة بعض الشيء‪،‬ولكن تخصيص بعض‬ ‫الوقت لفهم عناصر الصناعة‪،‬سوف يساعد‬ ‫أي شخص على النجاح و ترك انطباع جيد‪.‬‬

‫الطريقة التي يطبع بها الناس غيرت عدة أمور‬ ‫تحدثت مي برنتر مع اناناد في جوزيف نائب الرئيس لشؤون المبيعات وإدارة المنتجات في‬ ‫شركة ‪( Blue Rhine‬وهي شركة مقرها دبي تعمل في صناعة الالفتات) عن مخططات الشركة‬ ‫لعام ‪ ٢٠١٨‬وأهم التحديات التي يواجهها السوق حالياً‪.‬‬ ‫كيف كان عام ‪ ٢٠١٧‬بالنسبة ل‬ ‫‪Blue Rhine‬؟‬

‫فيما يتعلق بتوجهات عالم الطباعة فإن‬ ‫أحد أهم االختالفات التي شهدناها هو أن‬ ‫الطابعات تحولت إلى المطبوعات الدائمة‬ ‫عوضا ً عن المطبوعات المؤقتة أو الترويجية‪.‬‬ ‫وهذا صحيح بشكل خاص بسبب االنتشار‬ ‫الواسع لالفتات الرقمية‪ .‬لذا‪ ،‬ولحسن‬ ‫الحظ استطعنا أن نعمل أيضا ً في مجال‬ ‫الالفتات الرقمية من خالل شراكتنا مع‬ ‫شركة ‪ Phillips‬لتقوم بتوزيع مجموعة من‬ ‫شاشاتها من أجل دمج الالفتات الرقمية‪.‬‬ ‫وبالتالي‪ ،‬فقد غير هذا الطريقة التي يطبع‬ ‫بها الناس‪ ،‬ألن الطباعة اآلن مطلوبة ألغراض‬ ‫التخزين‪ .‬إذ أنها اليوم تخص بشكل أكبر‬ ‫المطبوعات التي تتمتع بصفة الديمومة‬ ‫وال تتغير ألهداف ترويجية أو بشكل شهري‪.‬‬ ‫ولهذا السبب لدينا اآلن حلول الالفتات‬ ‫الرقمية التي تتغير حسب الطلب‪.‬‬ ‫وقد ساعد ذلك على انتقال صناعة الطباعة‬ ‫من المنتجات الرخيصة واالقتصادية إلى‬ ‫حلول أكثر تميزا ً وديمومة مثل الرسومات‬ ‫األرضية الفاخرة والمنسوجات عالية الجودة‬ ‫والالفتات الفخمة التي يمكن استخدامها‬ ‫في متاجر التجزئة على سبيل المثال‪.‬‬ ‫نعتقد أن الشركات تتجه إلى استخدام‬ ‫ركائز صلبة وفخمة في مجال الطباعة‬ ‫وال سيما في مجال بيع األشياء بالتجزئة‪.‬‬

‫ما هي التوجهات من وجهة نظرك‬ ‫في مجال الحلول الرقمية؟‬

‫تواجه العديد من طابعات االوفست(وهي‬ ‫تقنية قديمة مستخدمة في الطباعة)‪ ،‬والتي‬ ‫لم تدخل مجال الطباعة الرقمية‪ ،‬صعوبات‬ ‫في الوقت الراهن‪ .‬إن الحاجة وعدد المشترين‬ ‫لطابعات األوفست انخفض بشكل كبير‬ ‫في السنوات األخيرة‪ .‬لذا فإن الطلب على‬ ‫المدى البعيد تراجع بشكل جذري‪ .‬إال أن‬ ‫الشركات التي تعمل بتقنية االوفست والتي‬ ‫شرعت بتبني التكنولوجيا الرقمية تؤمن‬ ‫أعماال ً قصيرة األجل لزبائنها الذين يرغبون‬ ‫بعدد قليل من المطبوعات وما إلى ذلك‪.‬‬

‫لكان هناك نوع من المقاومة من قبل‬ ‫الطابعات التقليدية التي تعمل بتقنية‬ ‫األوفست إذ أن تكلفة طباعة المتر المربع‬ ‫أعلى من تكلفة طباعته رقمياً‪ ،‬وتعتبر‬ ‫الطباعة الرقمية منطقية بالنسبة للزبائن‬ ‫الذين يبحثون عن تنفيذ عمليات قصيرة‬ ‫األجل وفي نهاية المطاف سوف تستفيد‬ ‫كامل صناعة المطبوعات من الطباعة‬ ‫الرقمية‪.‬‬

‫هل تخططون ألية عروض ترويجية‬ ‫في المنطقة؟‬

‫لدينا اآلن منشآت في خمسة بلدان من دول‬ ‫التعاون الخليجي الست‪ ،‬مثل المملكة‬ ‫العربية السعودية وقطر وعمان والكويت‬ ‫واإلمارات العربية المتحدة‪ .‬نطمح هذا العام‬ ‫لجعل منتجاتنا قريبة من الزبائن في دول‬ ‫مجلس التعاون الخليجي األخرى حيث‬ ‫ال يوجد لديهم متاجر متخصصة في بيع‬ ‫الالفتات‪.‬‬ ‫لقد حققنا نجاحا ً كبيرا ً في العام الماضي‬ ‫في سلطنة عمان‪ ،‬إذ أنشأنا مقصورات‬ ‫صغيرة في منطقة مستأجرة لكل منتج من‬ ‫منتجاتنا الرئيسة مثل منتجات ‪ASLAN‬‬ ‫للطباعة المتميزة‪ .‬كما جهزنا بعضا ً من آالتنا‬ ‫ألغراض تجريبية‪ ،‬كما تم عرض بعض من‬ ‫موادنا الصلبة األساسية وما إلى ذلك‪ .‬ولقد‬ ‫شارك الموردون في هذه المناسبات وقدموا‬ ‫دعمهم لنا بكل الطرق الممكنة‪ .‬استمرت‬ ‫هذه المناسبات لعدة أيام بما يتناسب‬ ‫مع حجم السوق‪ .‬وخطط للقيام بعروض‬ ‫ترويجية مشابهة في أسواق مختلفة خالل‬ ‫العام الحالي‪.‬‬

‫ما نوع نقاط الشكوى التي‬ ‫تعترض الطابعات اليوم؟‬

‫تعتبر المنافسة أكبر مواطن الشكوى‬ ‫التي تواجه الطابعات‪ .‬لقد انخفضت كمية‬ ‫المطبوعات المشتراة بشكل جذري وقد‬ ‫يكون السبب هو انخفاض اإلقبال في‬ ‫المتاجر‪ .‬والنزعة االقتصادية لم تكن كبيرة‬ ‫أيضاً‪ .‬فعلى سبيل المثال‪ ،‬إذا كان هناك ‪١٠٠‬‬ ‫عمل طباعة في السوق في األعوام السابقة‬ ‫وفقط ‪ ٩٠‬طابعة فهذا يتيح الفرصة لكل‬ ‫عامل في مجال الطباعة أن يطلب السعر‬ ‫الذي يريده وهناك عمل كاف للحفاظ على‬ ‫السوق‪ .‬أما اليوم‪ ،‬فهناك ‪ ٥٠‬عمل طباعة‬ ‫و‪ ٩٠‬طابعة في السوق‪ ،‬لذا فإن الجميع‬ ‫يناضل للحفاظ على هوامش ربحهم وهذا ما‬ ‫يشكل موضع شكوى كبير‪ .‬وبالطبع هناك‬ ‫طرق لتخطي هذه التحديات باستخدام‬ ‫وسائل التكنولوجيا الحديثة‪.‬‬

‫الرقمية هي السبيل للمضي قدما ً‬ ‫تتحدث مي برنتر إلى روجر نيكوديم ‪ ،‬المدير العام لمؤسسة هايدلبرج في الخليج‪ ،‬عن‬ ‫استراتيجيات عمل الشركة في المنطقة واإلنجازات التي ترغب في تحقيقها وخططها لعام ‪2018‬‬ ‫كيف كان عام ‪ 2017‬بالنسبة‬ ‫لمؤسسة هايدلبرج ؟‬

‫في الواقع كان عام ‪ 2017‬عاما ً حافال ً‬ ‫بالتحديات‪ ،‬مع ذلك لم يكن عاما ً سيئا ً‬ ‫للغاية بالنسبة لهايدلبرغ‪ .‬فقد حققنا‬ ‫نجاحات باهرة في السوق وفي مجاالت‬ ‫وطباعة‬ ‫مختلفة كالتعبئة والتغليف‬ ‫الفليكس والطباعة األمنية‪ .‬كما كان لدينا‬ ‫بعض العمالء التجاريين الذين يسعون‬ ‫للحصول على آالت جديدة‪ ،‬وهو أمر يصب‬ ‫أما فيما يتعلق‬ ‫في مصلحة الصناعة‪ّ .‬‬ ‫بالمواد االستهالكية والحلول الرقمية فقد‬ ‫قمنا بعمل جيد أيضاً‪ .‬لقد تحسن سوق‬ ‫المواد االستهالكية كثيرا ً خاصة على صعيد‬ ‫األلواح واألحبار‪ ،‬لذلك نحن نتطلع إلى‬ ‫المضي قدما ً واستمرار ذلك هذا العام‪.‬‬

‫ما هي األسواق التي تركزون‬ ‫عليها من موقعكم في مكتب‬ ‫دبي؟‬

‫نحن نغطي كامل منطقة الخليج وسوق‬ ‫العراق من مكتبنا في دبي‪ .‬بطبيعة الحال ال‬ ‫تزال اإلمارات العربية المتحدة هي السوق‬ ‫الرائدة في منطقة الخليج‪ .‬لذلك نأمل أن‬ ‫تبدأ سوق العراقية بالتحرك في االتجاه‬ ‫الصحيح األمر الذي سيوفر بعض الفرص‬ ‫الجديدة في المستقبل‪ .‬نحن نضمن تنفيذ‬ ‫متطلبات عمالئنا والتطوير المستمر في‬ ‫السوق وذلك بالتعاون مع شركائنا في‬ ‫البيع في جميع أنحاء المنطقة‪.‬‬

‫ما نوع عروض الطباعة الرقمية‬ ‫التي تبيعونها في السوق؟‬

‫بدأ األمر في عام ‪ 2011‬عندما وقعنا اتفاقية‬ ‫عالمية مع شركة ريكو (‪ )Richo‬لتطوير‬ ‫سوق الطباعة الرقمية العالمية‪ .‬وتمكّن‬ ‫هذه االتفاقية هايدلبيرغ من بيع أحدث‬ ‫الطابعات الرقمية الملونة وحلول الطباعة‬ ‫الرقمية من ريكو إلى األسواق التي نركز‬ ‫عليها‪ ،‬ويشمل هذا التعاون االستراتيجي‬ ‫العالمي الخدمات والدعم المقدمين من‬ ‫ريكو‪.‬‬

‫ما هي الفعاليات التي خططتم‬ ‫إلقامتها في هذا السوق هذا‬ ‫العام؟‬

‫بدأنا هذا العام للتو بالمشاركة في قمة‬ ‫الخليج للطباعة والتغليف (‪ ،)GPP‬ونود‬ ‫أيضا ً أن نقوم ببعض األنشطة المحلية‬ ‫مثل أيام التعبئة والتغليف‪ .‬وسينطلق‬ ‫هذا النشاط في شهر مايو من هذا العام‪،‬‬ ‫كما ستفتح بعض مراكز الحلول الرقمية‬ ‫أبوابها للزوار في المنطقة‪.‬‬

‫هل هناك نقص في المهارات في‬ ‫مجال صناعة الطباعة والتغليف‬ ‫اإلقليمية؟‬

‫وكذلك فإن بعض شركائنا مثل شركة‬ ‫بولر(‪ )Polar‬لديها قاطعات ليزرية تعمل‬ ‫باألنظمة الرقمية أيضاً‪ .‬ومن الناحية‬ ‫العملية‪ ،‬لدينا مجموعة جالوس (‪)Gallus‬‬ ‫التي تطلق منتجات رقمية جديدة‪ ،‬لذلك‬ ‫سنركز اهتمامنا على الرقمية في السوق‪.‬‬

‫نعم سترغب الكثير من الشركات بفتح‬ ‫منشآت للتعبئة في المنطقة ألن هذا‬ ‫السوق آخذ بالنمو بسرعة‪ ،‬وهذه الشركات‬ ‫التي بدأت مؤخرا ً ستوسع منشآتها‬ ‫بالتأكيد‪ .‬مع ذلك هناك تحديات تنطوي‬ ‫على هذا االقتراح‪ .‬بما أن العديد من‬ ‫العمالء سيحاولون االنتقال إلى التعبئة‪،‬‬ ‫فإن ذلك سيؤدي إلى زيادة العرض في‬

‫ساهمت شركة عفراء إلى جانب أقسامها‬ ‫المتخصصة‪ ،‬مثل وحدة العمل المرن التي‬ ‫تدعى ‪( Flexo Print Pack‬طباعة وتغليف‬ ‫فليكسو)‪ ،‬في قمة ‪ GPP‬لعام ‪ 2018‬إلبراز‬ ‫مجموعة منتجاتنا وحلولنا أمام الحضور‬ ‫في القمة‪ ،‬ولقد كانت قمة ‪ GPP‬في الواقع‬ ‫مبادر ًة ممتازة للمشاركة فيها‪ .‬قمنا في‬ ‫القمة بتقديم آلة كبس الملصقات‪ ،‬وهي‬ ‫في الحقيقة آلة كبس ملصقات منضدية‬ ‫ويمكنها كذلك القيام بدورات طويلة‪.‬‬ ‫وفضال ً عن شركائنا في فليكسو ‪eDale‬‬ ‫وشركائنا في فليكسو إلنهاء الملصقات ‪GM‬‬ ‫من الدنمارك‪ ،‬فقد قمنا بتسليط الضوء‬ ‫على مجموعة منتجات تروجان‪ ،‬وتروجان‬ ‫هي شركة من الدنمارك تقوم بإنتاج‬ ‫مكابس الملصقات‪.‬‬ ‫يمكن لمكابس الملصقات هذه أن تطبع‬ ‫على الطبقات السفلية لألفالم وعلى‬ ‫الملصقات الورقية وعلى غيرها من‬ ‫الطبقات السفلية التي تأتي مع نوع من‬ ‫الطالء في األعلى‪ .‬وبهذه المكابس فإننا نركز‬ ‫على أصحاب العالمات التجارية والمكابس‬ ‫التجارية والمكابس الرقمية في المنطقة‪.‬‬

‫ما هو نوع الطلب الذي ترونه‬ ‫في مجال صناعة الملصقات في‬ ‫المنطقة؟‬

‫هناك جميع أنواع مستلزمات الملصقات‬ ‫التي تكون حسب الطلب‪ .‬وتأتي هذه‬ ‫الطلبات من الشركات التي تدخل في قطاع‬

‫سيعرف معظم العمالء أن شركة ‪ HP‬إما‬ ‫هي شركة للطابعات أو شركة تقدم أجهزة‬ ‫كمبيوتر (اجهزة سطح مكتب أو أجهزة‬ ‫محمولة) ‪ .‬حيث أن شركة ‪ HP‬شاركت‬ ‫ولسنوات عديدة في أعمال تصميم الديكور‬ ‫الداخلي‪ .‬لذلك في هذا العام في ‪INDEX‬‬ ‫أردنا التواصل مع مصممي الديكور الداخلي‪،‬‬ ‫والمصممين‪ ،‬والمهندسين المعماريين‪،‬‬ ‫وموفري الطباعة‪ ،‬والمبرمجون‪ ،‬وما إلى‬ ‫ذلك‪ ،‬للتحدث عن نظامنا البيئي للمواد‬ ‫المطبوعة رقمياً‪.‬‬

‫ما هي المنتجات التي تم عرضها‬ ‫هذه السنة؟‬

‫كان معرض ‪ INDEX 2018‬يدور حول‬ ‫المستهلكين النهائيين للطباعة الرقمية‪.‬‬ ‫نحن كشركة لم نظهر طابعاتنا في هذا‬ ‫الحدث‪ ،‬بدال ً من ذلك استعرضنا تطبيقات‬ ‫تقنياتنا ‪ .‬وشملت هذه التقنيات خلفيات‪،‬‬ ‫أغطية األرضيات‪ ،‬أباجورات‪ ،‬أقمشة‪ ،‬الى آخره‬ ‫والتي يمكننا الطباعة عليها ‪ .‬كما عرضنا‬ ‫أيضا ً مواد كالجلود االصطناعية‪ ،‬والتي‬ ‫يمكنها االلتفاف إلى األرائك وغيرها من‬ ‫المفروشات‪ .‬واستعرضنا مجموعة كاملة‬ ‫من التطبيقات‪ ،‬والتي يمكن لمصممي‬ ‫التصميم الداخلي البدء في استخدامها في‬ ‫مشاريعهم‪ ،‬من منظور مطبوع رقم ًيا‪.‬‬

‫ماذا كنتم تخططون لتحقيقه من‬ ‫مشاركتكم في هذا الحدث؟‬

‫كان أهم ما في وسعنا من هذا الحدث هو‬ ‫نشر الوعي حول تطبيقاتنا بين المصممين‬ ‫المهندسين المعماريين‪ ،‬فهم عادة ما‬ ‫يفكرون في الحلول النمطية الستخدامها‬ ‫في مشاريعهم‪ ،‬ألنها قد تنسجم مع‬ ‫حلول متناظرة مع أعمالهم‪ ،‬مما يجعل‬ ‫صورة المنتج النهائي بدون إضفاء الطابع‬ ‫الشخصي‪ .‬مع الطباعة الرقمية‪ ،‬يمكنهم اآلن‬ ‫الحصول على الكثير من الخاصية الملكية‬ ‫لموادهم التقليدية ( الخصوصية والشخصية‬ ‫)‪ .‬وبهذا تكون مشاريعهم فريدة من نوعها‪.‬‬

‫طباعة الالتكس هي تقنية الطباعة المائية‪،‬‬ ‫والتي تتيح لك الطباعة على أنواع مختلفة‬ ‫من المواد‪ ،‬حيث يمكن تحقيق ذلك بنوع‬ ‫واحد فقط من الحبر‪ ،‬هو الحبر المتين‪،‬‬ ‫والذي يتمتع بمقاومته للخدش ولديه‬

‫ما هي فوائد تقنية ‪Latex R‬؟‬

‫لسنوات عديدة كان يعتبر عملنا ذا طبيعة‬ ‫مرنة بمعنى من لفة الى لفة‪ ،‬ومع رغبة‬ ‫العديد من عمالئنا في الطباعة على مواد‬ ‫صلبة مثل البالستيك والمعادن بشكل‬ ‫مباشر‪ ،‬قمنا بإصدار بعض المنتجات التي‬ ‫ستسمح لعمالئنا بالطباعة مباشرة على‬ ‫هذه المواد‪.‬‬

‫عرض جاي جيتشت المدير التنفيذي لشركة‬ ‫‪ EFI‬في ملتقى ‪ EFI‬لعام ‪( ٢٠١٨‬الس فيغاس‬ ‫‪ ٢٦-٢٣‬كانون الثاني) تحليله لتطور الطباعة‬ ‫ثم رسم الطريق التي تؤدي إلى النمو‪ .‬و أكد‬ ‫على أن " الطباعة آخذة في النمو" "على الرغم‬ ‫من الشائعات التي تشير إلى عكس ذلك"‪.‬‬ ‫إلثبات هذه النقطة قدم جيتشت إحصاءات‬ ‫تكشف عن النمو المتواصل للطباعة‬ ‫التقليدية‪ .‬حيث ارتفع اإلنفاق السنوي على‬ ‫البريد المباشر من ‪ ٤١‬مليار دوالر في عام‬ ‫‪ ٢٠١٢‬إلى ‪ ٧٦‬مليار دوالر في عام ‪ .٢٠١٧‬ثم‬ ‫أشار إلى اإلنفاق على الحمالت االنتخابية‬ ‫في الواليات المتحدة في عام ‪ ٢٠١٦‬الذي بلغ‬ ‫مليار دوالر‪ .‬وكما قدم دراسات استقصائية‬ ‫أظهرت تغيرات في األذواق بخصوص قراءة‬ ‫الكتب المطبوعة حيث لوحظ تغير ملموس‬ ‫من النزعة السابقة باتجاه الكتب االلكترونية‪.‬‬

‫سرعة التحول السريع‬
