Goss and Nitta Join Forces on Folder Belts

Goss and Nitta Corporation are pleased to announce their collaboration in developing MRO Belt Kits for the high-speed sections on Goss PCF-1, PCF-3, SG-3, and the new JF80G Folders. As the U.S. manufacturing arm of Japan’s Nitta Corporation, Nitta Corporation of America develops products specifically designed for the many printing folders that Goss manufactures, using the most advanced technology available.

Projects and Print Invests in Agfa Anapurna for Expanded Site

UK-based Projects and Print has bought a 3.2m Agfa Anapurna RTR3200i LED 6-colour printer with Asanti workflow to coincide with premises expansion.

The company has taken 1,068m2 of new premises in Tring, making the site twice the size of the old one, which already accommodated a 2.5m Anapurna M2500i 6-colour hybrid printer bought in 2014.

“In the last three years our business has grown by around 50% and there was a real need to increase space. The move to the new premises was a big step but in the short time we have been here we can see that we are much more productive without the need to employ more staff. And now, with the new Anapurna print output has also significantly increased,” said managing director Richard Barrett.

“The Anapurna M2500 has been totally reliable producing quality results on rigid or flexible material. The new 3.2m RTR Anapurna has only just been installed but is already making a significant impact by increasing output. Its LED lights have a much longer working life and by managing every job we print Asanti reduces costly mistakes before printing.

Agfa has also made colour calibrations to our own requirements so we can print on either machine and achieve the same results,” commented operations director Chris Parker.

Increasingly large corporate companies are requiring their print suppliers to have an accredited colour management solution in place so they can be sure of image quality and consistency. As a cutting-edge production hub, Asanti automatically generates colour settings and controls for multi-device consistency. “We have invested heavily in our business and our clients know they can trust and rely on us as we can with Agfa. MGI Jetvarnish 3D Evolution Acquired by Konica Minolta

Konica Minolta has added the new MGI Jetvarnish 3D Evolution to its industrial printing product portfolio. The JETvarnish 3D Evolution, developed and manufactured by Konica Minolta’s strategic partner MGI, is available in three sizes from B2 to B1.

It delivers high volume productivity with up to 4,065 B2 size sheets per hour, offers remarkable registration and the ability to create brilliant and highly profitable 2D and 3D effects with up to 200 micron in a single pass. It applies spot UV coating as a top layer to make prints more vivid, tactile and exclusive.

The varnish adds a creative touch to a wide range of applications, including luxury packaging, book covers, business cards or greeting cards, brochures, flyers, posters, magazines, photo books, and many

more. With the JETvarnish 3D Evolution it is easy to spot coat digital and offset prints, highlight defined areas, or add tactile 3D effects – all of which create attractive print products that are more vivid and tactile. When combined with inline hot foiling module additional glamorous effects are possible.

German print provider druckpartner Druck & Medienhaus is the first operation to invest in the high-end B1 spot UV varnishing and foiling

device. It chose Konica Minolta’s JV3D Evolution to add value to existing print jobs and differentiate its services. And just six months after its installation at the druckpartner premises, the long-time Konica Minolta customer was able to seize new business opportunities and increase its services and offerings.

"Customers are particularly happy to be provided with truly new printing and embellishment options," the company commented. By simplifying the production process, introducing the new JV3D Evolution has also led to significantly faster production speeds. Being able to produce in-house is particularly time saving, as intermediate logistics with external printers become unnecessary.

The same goes for technical coordination with another supplier: Projects can be managed and handled on site, written briefings or even print dummies for third parties become obsolete. The accounting department is benefiting as well, as it is relieved of having to negotiate the necessary supplier contracts or manage invoices. Employing MGI’s inkjet engine technology with drop-on-demand inkjet, "enhanced" UV protection allows the Evolution machine to consume less energy than traditional UV systems and it has eliminated several plastics to reduce consumables.

FDM Adds a Versatile to Increase Short-Run Capacity range of litho and digital presses and specialises in printing and mailing services for public and private sector organisations.

Financial Data Management (FDM) has boosted its digital capacity with a new Heidelberg Versafire CV 80 press to cater for growing demand for short-run, high-quality jobs.

FDM caters to clients in the public sector but has seen a rise in demand from private sector clients over the past decade. The company was incorporated in 1993 and operates a range of litho and digital, colour and mono machines.

Rogers believes that the fifth colour and demand for 6pp A4 will provide useful added value options for its customers. Most are London-based but the geographical spread of its market is expanding.

"We are seeing a lot more short run, high quality colour print runs of brochures, pamphlets and other promotional material," explained FDM operations manager Bobby Rogers.

"We opted to buy the Versafire CV from Heidelberg because the front end marries in with equipment we run in the litho department."

The press will be delivered w/c 16 October; the operators trained and it will go straight into flexible day production producing short run, quick turnround work. The machine runs an extended sheet size of up to 323x792mm and will be used to produce high-quality brochures, pamphlets and other promotional materials.

Dagmar Ringel Takes Over Marketing Remit from Klaus Schmidt

After more than 28 highly successful years as director of marketing and corporate communications at Koenig & Bauer AG, Klaus Schmidt (63) will be retiring from the company at the end of October. His duties will then pass to Dagmar Ringel, who was most recently director of public relations for technology group ZEISS.

As longstanding director, Klaus Schmidt represented the managerial staff on the supervisory board of Koenig & Bauer AG from 1993 to 2016. He also served on behalf of the parent company on the supervisory and advisory boards of numerous German and international subsidiaries.

Over the course of almost three decades, Klaus Schmidt has helped to shape the public and market image of the group with unwaver-

ing dedication, both in the press and at countless trade fairs and branch meetings. With his great knowledge of the industry, he was a sought-after partner for discussions throughout the company and beyond.

Modern Commander CL to Mark the 50th Anniversary of the Company Right on time for the 50th anniversary of its founding, Druck- und Pressehaus Naumann in Gelnhausen celebrated the official inauguration of an ultramodern Commander CL from Koenig & Bauer together with more than 300 guests of honour. The installation of this new newspaper press has practically doubled print capacity.

Managing director Jochen Grossmann: “With Koenig & Bauer, we have a very dependable partner at our side. All the work over the past months was completed professionally, punctually and to our fullest satisfaction.”

This was the largest single investment in the history of the company, which not only publishes newspapers such as the Gelnhäuser Neue Zeitung (GNZ), Mittelhessen-Boten and Neuer Markt, but also handles jobs for numerous external customers.

MEPCO Announces 22% Net Profit Growth for Third Quarter 2017

The Middle East Paper Co. (‘MEPCO’), the region’s leading verticallyintegrated paper manufacturer, has announced its financial results* for the third quarter of 2017. Net profit increased from SAR 18.2 million in the second quarter to reach SAR 22.2 million in the third quarter of 2017, representing an improvement of 22%. Gross profit for the third quarter was SAR 55.3 million, an increase of 92% as compared to the same quarter of last year and an increase of 22% as compared to the previous quarter in 2017.

Commenting on the announcement, Eng. Sami Safran, CEO of MEPCO, said: “We’re pleased to announce continued improvements in performance during 2017. Recent net profit and gross profit growth

has been driven mainly by increases in sales value, sales volume and improvements to average selling prices. While the impact of these growth drivers is partially offset by increases in the cost of sales per ton and operating expenses, we are pleased with our growth this year.”

Operational profit in the third quarter of 2017 was SAR 27.7 million, an increase of 198% compared to the same quarter last year, and an increase of 6% on the previous quarter.

Earnings per share (EPS) stood at SAR 0.87 on a year-to-date (YTD) basis. A year-on-year decrease of 60% on net profit for the current period was due to the recording of a non-recurring profit of SAR 92 million in 2016, resulting from the expropriation of land and premises.

Commenting on the Company’s results, Dr. Mohamed Saleh Darweesh, CFO of MEPCO, said, “Sales revenues for the third quarter reached SAR 212.7 million, delivering a year-on-year increase of 44% and an increase of 14% on the previous quarter of 2017, when we achieved sales revenues of SAR 186.7 million.

On a year-to-date basis, our sales revenues have exceeded SAR 566 million, compared to SAR 489.5 million for the corresponding period of 2016. This is an increase of 16%, and a clear testament to the continued success of our growth strategy.”

MEPCO’s total shareholders' equity during the current period amounts to SAR 699.6 million. The Company has adopted International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), effective from 1 January 2017.

Polish Commercial Printer Continues Modernisation In July 2017, Polish commercial printer Białostockie Zakłady Graficzne (BZGraf) commissioned a new eight-colour Rapida 106 perfector for 4-over-4 production at its Białystok plant. With this new press, already the fourth Rapida to be installed at BZGraf, the company expects to increase its productivity in the segments for full-colour commercial printing and books by over 40 per cent.

Grzegorz Szymczykowski, sales and service manager at KBA CEE: “We are already the market leader for medium- and large-format offset presses for packaging printing.

And this installation at BZGraf now confirms the growing market share of Koenig & Bauer when it comes to long perfector presses for full-colour books and commercial products.” It is only two years ago that BZGraf took delivery of a four-colour Rapida 105.

The new press is replacing a Rapida 105 which dates from 2001 and represents another important step in the company’s modernisation plans. Halina Samotik, production manager and member of the board at BZGraf: “At the moment, we work with presses from two manufacturers, including 12 printing units from Koenig & Bauer. The new press not only adds another four units to our capabilities, it also brings numerous other benefits: High print quality, fast makeready and extremely simple handling. At the end of the day, we are looking to boost our productivity by over 40%.”

The Rapida 106 went into production in July after an installation period of barely three weeks. It prints at 18,000 sheets per hour in straight production and 15,000 sheets per hour in perfecting mode. Accessories for lightweight substrates, fully automatic plate changers, an SIS sidelay-free infeed, facilities to disengage inking units which are not in use, CleanTronic cloth-based washing systems for the blankets and impression cylinders, and colour measurement and control systems are just a few of the configuration highlights.

The new press is used above all for the 4/4-colour jobs which account for the majority of production at BZGraf. Founded over 70 years ago, the company has been a member of the Kompap group since 2011. It specialises in full-colour hardcover books, but naturally produces even single-colour jobs where this is requested by customers.

The whole finishing process, including adhesive and stitched bindings, is handled in-house. The final products are mainly books, albums, catalogues and comics. “In most cases, these are complex multi-colour jobs which demand the highest production quality. The purchase of a perfector press which guarantees us flawless results was thus imperative,” says Halina Samotik.

Most of BZGraf’s customers are based in Poland itself, though the share of exports has recently

increased by 20%. Halina Samotik: “Demand is currently rather sluggish on the domestic market, and so we are targeting more and more export business.”

As in 2015, the whole management team at BZGraf was involved in the selection process for the new press.

The final decision in favour of the Rapida 106 can be attributed not least to the many years of positive experience with presses from Koenig & Bauer.

Halina Samotik, said, “We have already worked with Planeta P44, Rapida 72 and Rapida 105 presses.

For our operators, there are thus no problems moving across to the Rapida 106. The Rapidas are very popular here. They are robust and stable. And the new Rapida 106 also incorporates numerous innovative solutions which provide for high print quality on the most varied papers.”

Software developer Caldera has confirmed support of the new MS Printing Solution’s Impres soft signage printer, which will be making its first appearance in the Latin American market at FESPA Mexico 2017. It will be located on MS's booth, C10, during the show at the Centro Citibanamex in Mexico City, from 16-18 November.

Caldera’s established GrandRIP+ software, which uses the latest version of the Adobe PDF Engine to guarantee fast file processing and excellent color handling, will be the select RIP solution bundled with the Impres Soft Signage System. Mimaki Expands Portfolio with new Flatbed Cutting Plotter Wide-format print specialist Mimaki has moved to further enhance its range of solutions with the launch of the new CF22-1225 flatbed cutting plotter. With the ability to handle materials as large as 1,220 x 2,440mm, Mimaki said the device is the “ideal complement” to the Mimaki JFX200-2513 UV LED flatbed printer for users to produce seasonal point-ofpurchase displays of exhibition components.

The plant in Greussenheim near Würzburg, for example, is specialised on conventional print products on glossy substrates.

Two different grammages are printed, namely 135 and 250 g/m2, and the three four-colour Rapida 145 presses produce mainly flyers, folders and magazines. The average run length lies below 5,000 copies, and it is only rarely that orders come in for as many as 30,000 copies. With so many short

runs, fast job changes are naturally all the more important.

The Rapida 145 large-format presses at the plant in Greussenheim are equipped with a full spectrum of automation modules geared to fast job changes. This includes DriveTronic components such as SIS (sidelayfree infeed) and SPC (simultaneous plate change), CleanTronic Synchro washing systems, a special ink duct coating for fast ink changes, online integration with the LogoTronic Professional management system, and many others besides.

Accordingly, fast job changes with automatic plate changing, parallel washing and delivery of the first test print from a new job within five minutes were already standard.

Through the incorporation of optimised plate changers and adaptation of the washing programs to the correspondingly shorter change time, however, makeready times in Greussenheim have now been reduced further still. In the meantime, a complete changeover from the last good

sheet of one job to the first good sheet of the next takes only half the previous time, as plant manager Johannes Barthelmes confirms.

FLYERALARM combines the efficiency of simultaneous plate changing with the enormous additional potential of PlateIdent.

As soon as the data matrix codes on the plates are read, all the necessary press presetting information is loaded directly from LogoTronic Professional. Johannes Barthelmes: “For us, that is a form of semi-automated printing. While the press is in makeready, the printers and helpers have time to attend to other tasks.”

Normally, several print jobs are stacked together on a single pallet. At the end of each job, the pile is marked with a fluorescent pen, taking into account a defined production allowance and any waste sheets. After turning, QualiTronic SheetDetect recognises the marked sheets by way of a sensor under the infeed, enabling separation of the individual jobs. Heidelberg Presents new Speedmaster XL 106-DD Rotary Die-Cutter

The in-mould label market is continuously growing globally at around 4.3 per cent (Awa Global Inmould Study 2017), and more than two thirds of the worldwide production is required for food packaging. Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) is now offering an enhanced rotary die-cutter based on the XL technology, in addition to food-safe, highly efficient print production.

The Speedmaster XL 106-DD unites two key production steps in a single machine – a unique combination in the market. The rotary die-cutter’s first unit places the injection hole in the label for the subsequent production process by means of a die on a magnetic cylinder with

maximum precision. Even the tiniest holes of five millimeters diameter or more are possible. Up to now, this was a separate step that consequently extended the production time of the respective job.

The cut out material is safely and reliably removed by means of an extraction system. The second unit of the XL 106-DD subsequently cuts out the contour of the label from the sheet. At the end of the day, this combination of the two production steps in a single pass means a downright doubling of the die-cutting throughput, while makeready times and costs for die cutting tools can be reduced to half of the previously required.

The XL 106-DD processes foils and paper with thicknesses of 0.05 to 0.3 mm at a throughput of 6,000 to 10,000 sheets per hour – almost twice as fast than a flatbed diecutter. The costs for die cutting tools are usually in the range of EUR 300 to 1,000, and the machine is typically set up in 15 minutes.

Injection holes of five millimeters diameter and more can be cut, thus all the needs that are customary in the industry can be met. Apart from in-mould labels, the XL 106-DD can also cut plastic or paper packaging elements, such as POS items which, due to their design, need a “window” or hole for mounting in the shelf or for attaching to the product.

Sun Chemical Enters into License Agreement Sun Chemical has entered into a license agreement to introduce a new family of molecular inks for the printed electronics market with Groupe Graham International (GGI), a world leader in user interface technologies in touch applications, and the National Research Council of Canada (NRC).

The new molecular ink technology developed by GGI and the NRC will be produced by Sun Chemical and promoted collaboratively by all three organizations. Based on ionic molecules processed through a reduction process, the new IPS family of products will offer a viable alternative to conventional polymer thick film conductive inks and serve as a low-cost alternative to nano materials.

The robust IPS family of products include silver and copper metallization options that can be applied by screen, inkjet or other high speed printing methods.

The molecular inks feature submicron trace thickness that will

enable the production of narrow traces in thin dielectric layers on a variety of applications, including: in-mold electronics (IME), printed antenna, displays, EMI/RFI and sensors.

New Xante UV Flatbed Printer Obliterates Price Barrier Hundreds of 2017 SGIA Expo attendees’ appetites for an affordable, high quality multi-substrate print solution were pleasantly satisfied by the introduction of Xante’s new UV4000 UV LED printer last week.

“They definitely weren’t disappointed and we couldn’t have been more pleased. At a very affordable $50,000 (USD), the UV4000 destroys a significant barrier to profitability for our customers.

This is a very sweet spot for shops which have been waiting for a UV flatbed,” Ross added.

Attendees were amazed at the range of substrates accepted by the UV4000. Whether the media is coroplast, acrylic, metal, or glass, the UV4000 proved it was the solution that any sign shop or in-plant could easily find useful. The printer features a 36”x24” vacuum bed and accommodates media up to 11.02” deep. With a small footprint of just 26 square feet, the UV4000 doesn’t encroach on other equipment on the production floor.

The Cloud: Speeding Receivables for Printers Increasingly, we are entering a world in which everything is connected. All of our systems, both home and business, are feeding data into the cloud, where it is collected, stored, and analyzed. That data is used to improve the speed, efficiency, and productivity of everything we do. But not all printers are flocking to the cloud. In part, it is because it may be hard for them to see the connection to a real live printing business.

You may already have a high level of automation. What additional benefit does the cloud really bring?

Let’s look at two case studies that bring the value home. Printer #1 had a problem collecting funds on purchases made by its customers.

Historically, this print shop, like many others, would run a client’s jobs, then wait 30 to 60 days to get paid.

The shop would email, call, and then email some more. At one point, close to 30% of its revenues were tied up in receivables.

Amazing Print Tech, a provider of web-to-print solutions, suggested using the cloud instead. It proposed a solution in which graphic designers would no longer emailed proofs to their clients. Instead, the sign-off

process would be moved to the cloud. Customers would view their proof online, and once approved, they could choose paper and quantity and be taken to checkout for payment.

At first, the shop was hesitant, saying this was not the way they did business.

Nor did it believe that clients would accept a cloud-based system because they were used to the old payment terms. So Amazing Print tweaked the system to allow clients to choose their own payment terms. Clients were given four options: Checking out online by credit card Checking out using a procurement code or purchase order number Paying upon pick up Selecting ‘bill me later” To the client’s surprise, when offered the option of paying immediately, more than 80% of its customers took it. This eliminated a huge backlog of receivables. Additionally, customers complimented the printer on offering the convenience of “getting

it done” rather than making them wait for a bill and deal with the extra paperwork. The cloud solution turned out to be a win-win for all involved. All of the printing company’s transactions were synchronized in QuickBooks; the printer got paid more quickly; and clients were happy with the ease of ordering, reordering, and eliminating paperwork.

As another example, Printer #2 was also having a problem with receivables. By switching to a cloud-based accounting system, it also gave its delivery people tablets its customer can use to sign for delivery. Now once the client signs for a job, cloud software automatically generates an invoice. With just this simple change, the printer picked up ten days on its receivables.

So before you assume that you can’t adapt cloud-based systems because your customers won’t accept that much change, think again. Customers are highly adaptable, especially when the change benefits them.

Edward Bingham: Remembering a Legend

In a world of billions and an industry of millions, it hardly seems possible to find a good place to leave a mark. In the face of this, Edward Bingham decided to create his own place to leave a mark. He did just that. Bingham left behind not only a thriving business, but some of his own family working in the industry he had loved and served for over forty years. Three of his six children, a son-in-law, and now a third generation with a grandson following his footsteps today. Known to most as Bud or Ed, Bingham began

his career in the flexo market in the late 1950’s as a press helper, but his aptitude for the business quickly saw him rise through the ranks of pressman, supervisor, plant manager, ink salesman, anilox salesman, and sales manager. During his career, he worked for companies like Silver States Plastics, Georgia Pacific, Solo Cup, Diamond T Packaging, Converters Ink Company, and Pamarco.

In 1991, Bingham took a leap of faith and founded Bingham Flexo Services.

His vast knowledge of the industry and thorough understanding of the flexographic process guaranteed that this new business would be a lasting one. Before retiring in 2000, and until his death on October 26th, 2017, he was able to see the growth of this company and pass the management of it on to his son, ensuring it is and will continue to be a Bingham family company. Edward Bingham will be missed in our industry, but there can be no doubt he left behind not only a mark but a legacy.

Historically decorative printing of décor and laminates was the biggest sector, responsible for a third of the total value. This has now shifted with electronics, digital textile work and 3D printing, all growing much

Rotogravure dominates this market, where it is used to print paper that is processed into laminates for work surfaces, furniture, flooring and wallcoverings. Flexo and offset platforms take a small share and the use of inkjet printers is becoming more widespread, especially for bespoke designs.

The printing of electronics is still an evolving technology. It opens up a host of design opportunities and will enable the creation of a range of futuristic electronic devices.

Printed electronics allows electronic functionality to be delivered on a far wider range of substrates than conventional methods.

It will enable products with a cost and functionality that conventional electronic structures cannot deliver.

While traditional electronics are used in print and packaging, integrating large-area printable electronics can provide thin, conformable and lightweight circuitry using large-scale high-volume manufacturing processes at low cost. Printed circuits, RFID, displays, batteries and photovoltaics are all making steady progress.

Asia is the biggest region for printed electronics, led by many leading electronics companies in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and China. Digitally Printed Textiles

The global printed textile market is huge, estimated at over 32 billion square metres of output annually. Printing with inkjet is becoming increasingly significant as fashion trends become ever more change-

able - the adoption of inkjet textile printing is supporting ‘fast fashion’, with much quicker response times available to retailers.

There is strong growth in the sector as the $321 million market in 2012 rose by 351% to over $1.1 billion in 2017. This is set to accelerate, expanding at annual growth rate of 14.3% to 2022, a value of 2.1 billion. nkjet printing allows the supply chain to be shortened and made more flexible. There are many t-shirt printers offering a web-to-shirt service, where the buyer uploads their own unique image to be printed on to a garment on demand. For a fashion collection, stock-outs may be avoided by printing and making popular sizes and styles locally in small quantities. This makes higher manufacturing cost less of a problem, and internet retailers can extend this with only commissioning the product after a sale has been completed online. Increasingly, supply chains are being pressured

to provide greater flexibility, which inkjet textile printing is able to provide.

3D Printing

The global 3D printing business is maturing, with some of the hype around the subject settling down.

Various technologies have been proven to make functional parts and items in many industrial sectors cost effectively at low production runs. Users and service providers are exploring how business models may change with 3D print-ondemand systems closer to the point of use.

Even if you aren’t involved in helping them map out those journeys, it helps to understand what they are so you can help improve the end consumer’s experience (to the extent that you can) and capture as much of “share of wallet” from your customers as possible.

What is a customer journey? It is all the steps a customer takes before, during, and even after the sale. For example: How does the target audience

are they saying? What channels are they using to express their views?

If consumers are unhappy with the purchase, what is your customers’ plan to address those concerns?

If consumers are happy, what steps can your client take to turn those customers into brand advocates?

Are there cross-sell or upsell opportunities?

The more you understand the customer journeys of your clients’ customers, the more you can help.

There are communications strategies and options your customers might not have thought of. There may be places you can pinpoint where a new communications strategy (or having a communications strategy in the first place) will solve a pain point that they or their customers are having.

But you can’t offer insights until you know what those customer journeys are.

We as Arjowigins sell pour products all over the world. We have presence in most countries in the world. One of our key market targets is the creative community such as design agencies.

What sort of work is being exhibited at this event?

Arjowiggins Creative Papers has been running an internal competition around printed samples for five years now. For the first time, in 2015, we decided to share these achievements with printers and designers. This led us to the cre-

Arjowiggins’ ranges of paper such as Pop’Set, bright and bold papers, and Opale, a collection of smooth whites, are dotted around this space having been treated and finished in a variety of ways. Products on display include identity sets, brochures, stationery, and even bags.

What sort of products and techniques are being used when you look at the market as a whole?

When it comes to products our Conqueror range of products are the best-sellers. It is a very old and reliable brand and hence our customers love it.

We also develop special papers around colours for special print projects. All our papers do refer to our five senses and touch is essentially the most important thing. We have been innovating in the special papers segment for years now to give our customers something new every time.

We promote our products to the design communities all over the world. So this exhibition is to bring all the best work done using our papers under one platform.

This is pop up number seven. We already did six in Europe two years ago. These markets included Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Berlin, London, and Milano. And now we

by Segment

Sales change ex. currency refers to the increase or decrease in sales excluding the estimated impact of currency translation.

The estimated impact of currency translation is calculated on a constant currency basis, with prior period results translated at current period average exchange rates to exclude the effect of currency fluctuations. Organic sales change refers to the increase or decrease in sales excluding the estimated impact of currency translation, product line exits, and acquisitions and divestitures. Adjusted operating margin refers to income before interest expense and taxes, excluding restructuring charges and other items, as a percentage of sales.

Reported sales increased 6.3 percent; on an organic basis, sales grew an estimated 6.5 percent driven by strength in both RFID and the base business.

Reported operating margin improved 20 basis points to 6.8 percent as the benefits of increased volume, productivity, and reduced amortization expense, were partially offset by higher employeerelated costs and restructuring charges.

Adjusted operating margin improved 170 basis points to 8.7 percent.

Industrial and Healthcare Materials

Reported sales increased 51.8 percent. Sales excluding currency increased 50.3 percent; on an organic basis, sales grew an estimated 3.5 percent. Sales increased mid-single digits on an organic basis in both industrial and healthcare categories.

Reported operating margin declined 290 basis points to 8.2 percent driven primarily by the impact of recent acquisitions. Adjusted operating margin declined 320 basis points to 8.3 percent.

International Paper Reports Third Quarter 2017 Earnings International Paper has reported third quarter 2017 net earnings attributable to International Paper of $395 million or $0.95 per share compared with net earnings of $80 million or $0.19 per share for the second quarter of 2017 and net earnings of $312 million or $0.75 per share in the third quarter of 2016. Print and Paper Packs a Punch in a Digital World The results of an international survey by Two Sides provides unique insight into how print and paper is viewed, preferred and trusted by consumers around the globe.

Carried out in June 2017, the survey contacted more than 10,700 consumers around the world, including more than 1000 in the UK and asked about a variety of topics including reading habits, trust in news, "digital overload", advertising preferences and the drive towards digital communications instead of paper-based ones.

Nationally representative surveys were undertaken in ten countries: Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. Key findings include that 72% prefer reading printed books and magazines; more than three-quarters think that fake news is a worrying trend; 60% still read a printed newspaper at least once a week;

69% think it important to switch off from electronic devices and enjoy print more; and 77% (88% in the UK) believe they should not be charged for receiving paper bills or statements.

Not only is there a global preference for print, there is also greater trust in print. 76% of all respondents believe “fake news�

is a worrying trend and only 24% trust the news stories they read on social media. In addition, 63% of all respondents believe reading news in a printed newspaper provides a deep understanding of the story.

The survey also revealed consumers have a negative perception of online advertising. 68% of

global respondents say they don’t pay attention to online ads and 62% find them annoying and usually not relevant. 57% of global respondents do their best to block or avoid online ads. Despite the shift towards receiving digital communications, 89% of consumers believe they should have the right to choose how they receive communications (printed or electronically) from financial organizations and service providers, with a further 77% agreeing they should not be charged more for choosing paper bills and statements.

The common claims assisting this drive to digital, such as “Go Green - Go Paperless” and “Save Trees”, are creating consumer suspicion as 62% of global respondents believe the switch to digital is because the sender wants to save money, not because it is “better for the environment”. Concerns about security and privacy were also evident. 71% are concerned their personal information held electronically is at risk of being hacked, stolen, lost or damaged and 73% keep paper copies of important documents at home for safety and security.

Overall, findings conclude that consumers trust, enjoy and gain a deeper understanding of information read in print, with signs of digital fatigue and concern for electronic information security and privacy evident. Key findings from around the globe:

Fully Integrated Circuits Printed Directly Onto Fabric

Researchers have successfully incorporated washable, stretchable and breathable electronic circuits into fabric, opening up new possibilities for smart textiles and wearable electronics. The circuits were made with cheap, safe and environmentally friendly inks, and printed using conventional inkjet printing techniques.

The researchers, from the University of Cambridge, working with colleagues in Italy and China, have demonstrated how graphene -- a two-dimensional form of carbon -- can be directly printed onto fabric to produce integrated electronic circuits which are comfortable to wear and can survive up to 20 cycles in a typical washing machine.

The new textile electronic devices are based on low-cost, sustainable and scalable inkjet printing of inks based on graphene and other two-dimensional materials, and are produced by standard processing techniques.

The results are published in the journal Nature Communications.

Based on earlier work on the formulation of graphene inks for printed electronics, the team designed low-boiling point inks, which were directly printed onto polyester fabric. Additionally, they found that modifying the roughness of the fabric improved the performance of the printed devices. The versatility of this process allowed the researchers to design not only single transistors but all-printed integrated electronic circuits combining active and passive components.

“The printed components are flexible, washable and require low power, essential requirements for applications in wearable electronics,” said PhD student Tian Carey, the paper’s first author. The work opens up a number of commercial opportunities for two-dimensional material inks, ranging from personal health and well-being technology, to wearable energy harvesting and storage, military garments, wearable computing and fashion.

Most wearable electronic devices that are currently available rely on rigid electronic components mounted on plastic, rubber or textiles. These offer limited compatibility with the skin in many circumstances, are damaged when washed and are uncomfortable to wear because they are not breathable.

“Turning textile fibres into functional electronic components can open to an entirely new set of applications from healthcare and wellbeing to the Internet of Things,” said Torrisi. “Thanks to nanotechnology, in the future our clothes could incorporate these textile-based electronics, such as displays or sensors and become interactive.”

“Other inks for printed electronics normally require toxic solvents and are not suitable to be worn, whereas our inks are both cheap, safe and environmentallyfriendly, and can be combined to create electronic circuits by simply printing different twodimensional materials on the fabric,” said Dr Felice Torrisi of the Cambridge Graphene Centre, the paper’s senior author.

“Digital textile printing has been around for decades to print simple colorants on textiles, but our result demonstrates for the first time that such technology can also be used to print the entire electronic integrated circuits on textiles,” said co-author Professor Roman Sordan of Politecnico di Milano.

“Although we demonstrated very simple integrated circuits, our process is scalable and there are no fundamental obstacles to the technological development of wearable electronic devices both in terms of their complexity and performance.”

The use of graphene and other related 2D material (GRM) inks to create electronic components and devices integrated into fabrics and innovative textiles is at the centre of new technical advances in the smart textiles industry. The teams at the Cambridge Graphene Centre and Politecnico di Milano are also involved in the Graphene Flagship, an EC-funded, pan-European project dedicated to bringing graphene and GRM technologies to commercial applications.

The research was supported by grants from the Graphene Flagship, the European Research Council’s Synergy Grant, The Engineering and Physical Science Research Council, The Newton Trust, the International Research Fellowship of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Ministry of Science and Technology of China. The technology is being commercialised by Cambridge Enterprise, the University’s commercialisation arm.

‫لقد تم تجهيز مكابس رابيدة‪ 145‬ذات‬ ‫الشكل الكبير في مصنع غروسنهايم مع‬ ‫مجموعة كاملة من وحدات التشغيل اآللي‬ ‫وذلك إلحداث تغييرات سريعة في العمل‪.‬‬ ‫وتشمل معدات مشغل ترونيك كجهاز‬ ‫سيس وهو ( تغذية بدون تدقيق جوانب‬ ‫الورق) وجهاز سبك ( تغير اللوحة في وقت‬ ‫واحد)‪ ،‬جهاز كلين ترونيك سينكرو ألنظمة‬ ‫التنظيف‪ ،‬وطالء بأنبوب حبر خاص لتغيرات‬ ‫سريعة في الحبر‪ ،‬واالندماج عبر االنترنت‬ ‫مع نظام إدارة لوغو ترونيك بروفيشنال‪،‬‬

‫تحديث إدارة الورق عند انعدام الجاذبية‬ ‫ومثبطات اللهب البالستيكية وإدارة‬ ‫نفايات الحبر أثناء الطباعة عند انعدام‬ ‫الجاذبية وإزالة الزجاج وتعديل االتصال‬ ‫السلكي والالسلكي والطباعة في اتجاهات‬ ‫متعددة والكفاءة في استخدام الطاقة‪.‬‬ ‫ووجدت شركة إتش بي أن متطلبات‬ ‫العمل ضمن ظروف انعدام الجاذبية‬ ‫تعد األكثر تحديا ً بالنسبة لها من حيث‬ ‫تلبية تلك المتطلبات والتحقق منها‪ ،‬لكن‬ ‫فريق التطوير كان ناجحا ً بفضل استعمال‬ ‫الطابعة ثالثية األبعاد ‪ 3D‬مع مواد‬ ‫متخصصة‪ ،‬وقامت الشركة ضمن عملية‬ ‫تعديل الطابعة بإزالة قدرة المسح الضوئي‬ ‫والنسخ والفاكس وكذلك المكونات‬ ‫الزجاجية‪.‬‬ ‫وكانت النسخة النهائية من الطابعة‪ ،‬والتي‬ ‫يجب أن تعمل في الفضاء‪ ،‬متوافقة مع‬ ‫شروط وكالة الفضاء األمريكية ناسا‪ ،‬كما‬ ‫أنها أخف بكثير من ناحية الوزن بالمقارنة‬ ‫مع النسخة األصلية من الطابعة‪ ،‬وسوف‬ ‫يجري استبدال طابعات ‪Epson 800‬‬ ‫النافثة للحبر الموجودة في محطة الفضاء‬ ‫الدولية والعاملة ضمن ظروف انعدام‬ ‫الجاذبية األرضية بالطابعة الجديدة دون‬

‫الحاجة إلى الكثير من التعديل‪ .‬ويعود‬ ‫السبب بذلك إلى الطريقة التي تعمل بها‬ ‫خراطيش الحبر‪ ،‬وتعتبر تغذية الطابعة‬ ‫بالورق أكبر مشكلة ينبغي حلها نظرا ً لعدم‬ ‫وجود جاذبية‪ ،‬ويبدو أن الشركة قد حلت‬ ‫هذه المشكلة من خالل استعمال الطباعة‬ ‫ثالثية األبعاد لطباعة أجزاء جديدة‪ ،‬وهي‬ ‫أجزاء لن تتواجد في اإلصدارات العادية من‬ ‫الطابعة‪.‬‬ ‫ويستعمل رواد الفضاء الطابعات لطباعة‬ ‫المعلومات المهمة الخاصة بمهمات‬ ‫الفضاء‪ ،‬وإجراء اإلخالء في حاالت الطوارئ‪،‬‬ ‫وطباعة الصور‪ ،‬ووفقا ً لوكالة ناسا فإنها‬ ‫تطبع ما يقرب من ألف صفحة في الشهر‬ ‫عبر طابعتين‪ ،‬حيث تتواجد واحدة على‬ ‫الجانب األمريكي من محطة الفضاء‬ ‫الدولية‪ ،‬بينما تتواجد األخرى في الجزء‬ ‫الروسي‪.‬‬ ‫وتعتزم وكالة الفضاء األمريكية ناسا‬ ‫إرسال الطابعات البديلة إلى محطة الفضاء‬ ‫الدولية القابعة على ارتفاع ‪ 254‬ميال ً فوق‬ ‫األرض خالل عام ‪ ،2018‬ووفقا ً لشركة‬ ‫إتش بي سوف يجري إرسالها من خالل‬ ‫صاروخ شركة الفضاء الخاصة سبيكس‬ ‫إكس ‪.SpaceX‬‬

‫فيسبوك تطلق مشروع الصحافة في منطقة‬ ‫الشرق األوسط وشمال أفريقيا‬
