Bisleri International, India’s leading packaged drinking water brand, has entered a landmark three-year partnership with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) as its Official Hydration Partner. The agreement was formalised last week (8 December) at the Dubai International Stadium. This strategic alliance marks a significant step in Bisleri’s expansion in the UAE and reinforces its commitment to championing hydration, wellness, and peak athletic performance across global sporting platforms.

Being the official governing body for cricket in the UAE, the ECB oversees the development of the sport across men’s, women’s, and

U-19 categories. Over the years, the Board has played a crucial role in elevating the UAE’s standing as an emerging cricketing hub, hosting high-impact bilateral series, marquee international fixtures, and world cricket tournaments.

As part of the association, the Bisleri branding will appear on the uniforms of the men’s and women’s national teams, as well as the U-19 men’s and women’s teams. The branding will feature across bilateral series, Asian Cricket Council events, and ICC tournaments, strengthening Bisleri’s focus on supporting athletes competing and visibility across high-viewership global cricket platforms.

Chemitech, Böttcher to Optimise Print Solutions in Levant Chemitech, a Lebanese supplier of printing materials, has announced a major strategic partnership with Böttcher, a German market leader in printing consumables and components. The agreement grants Chemitech the rights to distribute Böttcher’s complete range of printing materials and solutions across Lebanon and Syria.

Founded in 1725, Böttcher develops and supplies elastomer-coated rollers and sleeves for a range of industries, including printing, packaging, and industrial roller applications.

The Cologne-headquartered company supplies a variety of rollers, printing blankets, and chemicals that are designed to optimise the printing process, besides offering packaging solutions for offset, flexo, and gravure printing.

BOBST Drives Packaging Innovation, Growth at IGE Algeria BOBST’s participation at IGE supported not only the event, but also the region’s wider drive for modernisation and innovation within the industrial and packaging sectors

BOBST has announced its successful participation at the Industry Grand Expo (IGE) 2025 in Oran, Algeria, where the company presented its latest technologies and industrial solutions for packaging excellence and sustainability. Over the fourday event in late October, BOBST experts also delivered a series of presentations on topics aligned with IGE’s core themes of innovation and standardisation.

Created as a strategic meeting point for manufacturers, suppliers, experts, and innovators, the inaugural edition of IGE, held from 27-30 October 2025, brought together 31 international exhibitors. Chosen as

the exhibition’s honorary partner, BOBST’s booth displayed stateof-the-art packaging solutions – a combination of digitalisation, automation, connectivity, and sustainability.

Addressing the growing need for standardisation, François Cornu, BOBST Deputy Technology Sales Director LADSF, explained the zerofault packaging concept which creates seamless workflows to support brand owners with high-quality packaging. BOBST Field Services Engineer Othmani Miled also outlined how BOBST Connect offers digitalisation and optimisation of the entire production process through machine connectivity, providing deep data insights and enabling predictable maintenance.

BOBST Presents Packaging Insights, Innovations in Tunisia

The BOBST roadshow in Tunisia allowed converters to explore new opportunities for growth and operational excellence in all packaging segments

BOBST brought the packaging community together in Tunisia’s coastal city of Sousse in early December for a two-day event. The forum was designed to introduce the latest innovations and sustainability across labels, flexible packaging, folding cartons, and corrugated packaging.

Held on 3 and 4 December 2025, BOBST welcomed more than 150 attendees to the Sousse Pearl Marriott Resort & Spa for a programme packed with presentations and networking opportunities. The first day of the roadshow was dedicated to the folding carton and corrugated packaging sectors, while the second catered to label and flexible packaging converters. The agenda featured a broad contingent of expert speakers from BOBST, alongside representatives from partner companies Baumer hhs, Esko,

KURZ, Packitoo, Reifenhäuser, and Rossini, who collectively addressed the most important topics currently affecting the industry.

“The BOBST roadshow in Tunisia allowed converters to explore new opportunities for growth and operational excellence in all packaging segments,” says Eric Pavone, BOBST Business Director AFMETC Region.

“With a strong speaker programme and strategic partner presence, the event perfectly showcased BOBST involvement and leadership in North Africa. And I’m pleased to report that the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.”

For the paperboard industry, the focus was on the new BOBST NOVAFFG flexo folder gluer. This complete box making solution, which has an optimised footprint and lean layout, offers a highly com-

petitive price-performance ratio.

The ETERNA portfolio of converting solutions was also presented as another cost-effective option for corrugated packaging. Folding carton specialists could learn about BOBST’s revolutionary zero-fault packaging concept, and the DIGITAL MASTER 55 all-in-one platform configured for light cartons.

On the flexible packaging front, the modular VISION CI flexo press and multi-technology NOVALAM 800 laminator were in the spotlight, presenting a strong combination for efficient production. And for inline flexo labels, the star of the show was the MASTER M5, an automated versatile label and flexible packaging press. Other topics covered included BOBST Connect – the digital cloudbased platform, the digitalisation of gravure printing, the latest innovations in coating and metallization, excellence in tooling performance, equipment financing solutions, and BOBST support and services.

Partner innovation and collaboration formed a big part of the programme with talks from KURZ on new trends in digital embellishment and sustainable finishing, and innovation in gluing technology courtesy of Baumer hhs. Packitoo HIPE, the AIpowered software that configures, calculates, and generates quotes, was also presented, while the Esko talk outlined the advantages of its collaboration with BOBST. The future of film extrusion was discussed by Reifenhäuser, and the challenges of sustainable innovation in printing equipment by Rossini.

FESPA Successfully Concludes FLEX 2025 MENA Roadshows

The FESPA Leadership Exchange (FLEX) 2025 show successfully concluded as a prelude to FESPA Middle East 2026. This was FESPA’s first-ever regional education series across three countries. The events brought knowledge, inspiration, and direction to industry professionals across the MENA region.

FLEX 2025 series was organised in

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (24 November 2025), Amman, Jordan (26 November 2025), and Cairo, Egypt (27 November 2025). The events brought together senior print and signage professionals for an open forum on regional and global industry trends.

The free-to-attend event series is dedicated to fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration, empow-

ering business leaders to adapt to technological and behavioural shifts in the market.

The roadshows featured prominent voices offering their expert perspectives on the future of print and visual communications industries.

FLEX 2025 covered key areas including global and distinctive regional trends, brand experience, the

future of retail displays, evolving markets in the MENA region, and textile printing innovations. FESPA CEO Neil Felton opened each of the three sessions with insights from the FESPA Print Census, offering a clear snapshot of industry trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping the future.

Christian Duyckaerts, Founder and Managing Partner of Matchmaker4Print, who also featured in all the three events, discussed brand experience, exploring how clients can be supported with creative solutions that are not only innovative but also drive profitability.

Duyckaerts shared his sustainability toolkit, covering the importance of certifications and best practices, what sustainable printing truly means, how to calculate and reduce carbon footprints, the potential of second-life products, and whether a PVC-free future is within reach.

Industry Unites to Launch the Sustainable Print Manifesto

A unified sustainability framework, created by and for the global print industry, to advance responsible print production, use and end-of-life recycling An industry-wide working group has announced the launch of ‘Sustainable Print Manifesto’, an independently developed, industry-wide initiative created to provide a simple, practical, and universally relevant framework to increase sustainability across all print sectors.

The project is grounded in the belief that the print industry must collaborate more, not less, if it is to accelerate progress. Today, too many sustainability efforts remain fragmented – shaped by local regulation, technology limitations,

individual company priorities, or regional nuances. The new Sustainable Print Manifesto aims to rise above these silos, offering a globally relevant blueprint for continual improvement, shared learning, and improved collective progress.

The manifesto’s purpose is simple: to create a shared language for sustainable print, and one that demystifies complexity and empowers every print business to take meaningful action to be more sustainable.

Whether commercial print, packaging, wide format, textiles, labels, or industrial manufacturing, the Manifesto is deliberately print-agnostic and compatible with any process, technology, or business model.

Unlike traditional top-down

standards, the Manifesto has no single author. It has been shaped collaboratively through 11 workinggroup meetings, a multi-stakeholder summit in Valencia, a series of webinars, and multiple in-depth articles.

Over the past 12 months, printers, manufacturers, brands, retailers, technologists, consultants, and trade bodies have contributed insight, challenged assumptions, and co-authored a document designed to unify the industry around clear, actionable sustainability principles.

Brands and retailers have also been consulted throughout its development, ensuring the document aligns with real-world requirements, expectations, and future-facing sustainability priorities. Rather than

replacing the work of associations or existing frameworks, the Manifesto is designed to act as a neutral, unifying north star – one that sits above technical and regulatory silos and is accessible to any business, anywhere in the world.

Clear Set of 9 Practical Principles At the heart of the Manifesto is a set of nine practical, non-competitive principles that any organisation can adopt immediately. These principles focus on real-world actions that improve environmental performance today – without large investment or radical operational change. They include designing print for purpose; producing efficiently; choosing better, lower-impact materials and inks; minimising waste; reducing carbon and energy consumption; improving water stewardship; applying finishing only where it adds value; recycling and reusing operational materials; and communicating impacts transparently using accurate, data-led reporting. Grounded in lifecycle thinking, the nine principles provide a universally relevant, accessible framework that scales for businesses of any size, in any sector, anywhere in the world.

Founding Partners and Supporting Associations To make this independent initiative possible, a group of visionary founding partners have provided financial and strategic support to underwrite its development. These include HP, CarbonQuota, Gallus, Domino Printing Sciences, FuturePrint, Sun Chemical, Nazdar, Kavalan, io.tt, CPI Books, The PackScout, CIMPRESS, and Bespoke.

The manifesto also has the backing of key global trade bodies, including BPIF & IPIA (UK), VIGC (Belgium), and PRINTING United Alliance (USA).

Call to Action The Sustainable Print Manifesto is now available for download, and all organisations within the print and packaging value chain are invited to

read it and share it, action its suggestions and even pledge their support.

While this document will continue to evolve as the collaboration grows, today it marks a collective commitment from across the industry to create a clearer, more coherent, and more impactful pathway towards a sustainable future for print.

Integration with digital printing, finishing, and automated forming machines, combined with intelligent packaging, could transform supply chain management and customer communication.

Smarter AI-driven systems are also improving stock management, efficiency, and waste reduction. Rising SKU numbers, shorter runs, and increasing demand for customisation are driving flexible packaging lines, while e-commerce is using AI to create custom-sized packaging for individual deliveries. Robotics and collaborative robots enhance line flexibility without slowing production, while predictive AI helps mitigate operational risks.

The report highlights further innovations, including “right-sizing” packaging to cut costs and improve sustainability, rapid line reconfiguration for complex shapes, and microfulfilment centres enabling 24-hour delivery. Real-time data allows companies to respond instantly to changing demand, promotions, or weather events, while self-learning AI supports a fully circular economy.

Generative AI is also transforming

the creative process itself. Bespoke graphics can be generated on demand, enabling rapid prototyping and customisation, while AI agents adjust designs in response to market trends and consumer feedback.

By 2025, AI is being applied across text, code, images, video, and 3D content, with outputs expected to outperform professional designers and developers by 2030, marking a step-change in productivity and creativity across packaging.

Komori Blends Nature & Technology in 2026 Calendar

Japanese printing press maker Komori has announced the production of its 2026 Komori Calendar, a project embodying the Komori Group Purpose – Delivering Kando “beyond expectations” by contributing to society with print technology.

Since its founding in 1923, Komori has supported information, the economy, and culture as a printing machinery systems manufacturer. By pursuing the ‘print technology’ cultivated over 100 years, the company aims to contribute to solving environmental and social issues. Continuing on from the previous year, a calendar for 2026 has been created themed around the concept of FUSION Nature & Technology, embodying Komori’s pursuit of print technology and its vision of

integrating nature and technology.

Artwork and Art Concept For the visual motif, the calendar features NEO HOKUSAI, an art series that reimagines Katsushika Hokusai’s masterpiece Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji by combining modern perspectives with digital processing techniques.

The artworks produced by ENLIGHTENMENT, a creative unit established

by Hiro Sugiyama in 1997, integrate elements of natural beauty and contemporary geometric design, perfectly expressing the calendar’s theme: FUSION Nature & Technology.

Printing Technology and Expression

The cover is printed using the Jthrone 29, Komori’s latest 29-inch sheetfed UV inkjet digital printing press. The J-throne 29 is an environmentally conscious printing press that promotes efficient resource use and reduces environmental impact.

In addition, RGB printing significantly expands the colour gamut enabling more vivid expression. As a result, ENLIGHTENMENT’s NEO HOKUSAI artworks – with their delicate colours and graphical beauty – are reproduced in full detail, achieving a refined finish befitting for the calendar’s cover.

The calendar pages are printed using a multicolour offset press, and through the creative use of spot inks and varnish finishing, Hokusai’s world is conveyed not only visually but also through a rich tactile experience.

Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji is a collection of nishiki-e (multicolour woodblock prints) depicting Mount Fuji by Katsushika Hokusai, a prominent ukiyo-e artist active during the Edo period. Published circa 18301834, this series comprises 46 prints, capturing Mount Fuji from various locations and angles, revealing its diverse expressions.

Sappi and UPM to merge European graphic paper businesses

Sappi and UPM-Kymmene have announced the signing of a non-binding letter of intent to form a non-listed, independent 50/50 Joint Venture for graphic paper. This Joint Venture will bring together Sappi’s European Graphic Paper business with UPM’s Communication Papers business in Europe, the UK and the US. The transaction will be subject to the fulfilment of a number of regulatory and other conditions, including shareholder approval. The parties intend signing definitive agreements during the first half of calendar year 2026 and expect to close the proposed transaction by the end of calendar year 2026, once all conditions precedent are fulfilled.

Commenting on their decision to create the Joint Venture, Sappi Limited CEO Steve Binnie and UPM President and CEO Massimo Reynaudo said: “The proposed joint venture represents a decisive response to the structural changes in the European graphic paper industry, offering a path to strengthen its resilience and provide long-term commitment and supply security to customers.”

We have been searching for a solution to secure a long-term profitable future for our European business.

This innovative partnership with UPM will deliver a focused business bringing the best assets and people together to create a strong future which can ensure sustained support for our customers and can also ensure that the European manufacturing base is protected.

He continued: “The proposed joint venture provides a unique opportunity to unlock value for our shareholders. The transaction delivers on Sappi’s Thrive strategy to reduce our direct exposure to the graphic paper segment and enables us to reposition our portfolio towards higher-growth, higher value segments. Sappi’s direct sales volume exposure to the graphic paper segment will decrease to below 20% after the transaction is completed and our 50% shareholding in the joint venture is anticipated to generate more value than the standalone Sappi graphic paper business.

He concluded: “Ultimately the transaction will enable Sappi to reduce debt in the medium term

and in the future the cash dividends from the joint venture will further lower debt. ” The launch of this proposed joint venture takes place against a backdrop of sustained structural decline in demand within the graphic paper market alongside overcapacity and low utilisation rates of assets. This significant erosion has been caused by a number of factors including a structural shift toward digital media, declining print advertising revenues, falling newspaper and magazine circulations, and the rapid adoption of electronic media and workflows.

This deterioration has been further intensified by rising costs (in particular energy) in Europe. Recent trade tensions and tariffs have further disrupted trade flows resulting in increased Asian exports to the European Union (the EU).

Marco Eikelenboom, CEO of Sappi Europe commented: “To remain competitive and sustainable in the long term, consolidation is needed.

Consolidation will contribute to a more robust and resilient European graphic paper industry, safeguarding security of domestic supply for the printing sector.”

The key benefits of the consolidation of Sappi and UPM’s graphic paper assets are: • By strategically reallocating production volumes to the most efficient paper machines, the Joint Venture will achieve more sustainable capacity utilisation and stronger operational performance, while continuing to serve customers with a broad portfolio of European graphic paper products.

• The operational synergies created through the Joint Venture (which are anticipated to be at least €100 million per annum once the Transaction is implemented) provide a pathway to realise greater value from the combined asset base, delivering enhanced profitability and stronger cash-flow generation compared to what the independent operations could achieve on their own, to the benefit of all stakeholders including sharehold-

ers.

• By optimising capacity utilisation, enhancing operational efficiencies and continuing to invest in decarbonisation, the Joint Venture can reduce its overall climate impact, helping to advance the EU’s Clean Industrial Deal objectives.

The proposed transaction will be structured to enable the parties to respectively contribute the assets detailed below to the newly formed Joint Venture with Sappi and UPM as founding shareholders and each holding 50% of the issued shares.

Sappi and UPM will sell their respective businesses and assets mentioned below to the newly formed Joint Venture with a combined enterprise value of €1,420 million excluding the value of the expected synergy benefits. At closing the Joint Venture will raise debt to fund the purchase prices payable to Sappi and UPM respectively. The Joint Venture’s dividend policy will be to distribute all excess cash to its shareholders.

The Sappi business is valued at €320 million which, based on an FY2025 EBITDA of €64 million represents a 5x multiple. Sappi will transfer pension and other liabilities of €53 million and net assets valued at €267 million to the Joint Venture. In return Sappi will receive cash of €139 million and 50% shareholding in the Joint Venture.

The UPM business is valued at €1,100 million, which represents a

4.6x multiple of the last reported 12 months to September 2025 EBITDA. UPM will transfer pension and other liabilities of €360 million and net assets of €740 million to the Joint Venture. In return UPM will receive cash of €613 million and 50% shareholding in the Joint Venture.

Sappi will contribute the following assets: Gratkorn Mill (Austria); Ehingen Mill (Germany), Maastricht Mill (The Netherlands), and Kirkniemi Mill (Finland); as well as Sappi Europe’s wood supply Joint Ventures.

munication Papers business assets which are located at the following UPM mills: Augsburg (Germany), Schongau (Germany), Nordland paper lines 1 and 4 (Germany), Rauma including UPM RaumaCell (Finland), Kymi (Finland), Jämsänkoski paper line 6 (Finland), Caledonian (United Kingdom), and Blandin (United States of America).

During the transition phase, both Sappi and UPM will provide relevant operational and administrative support to the Joint Venture to ensure it can operate optimally.

Yet in this fast-moving landscape, shoppers in many countries are quietly rediscovering something slower and surprisingly delightful: the printed holiday catalog. Once assumed to be on the brink of disappearance, it is now reclaiming a meaningful place in global shopping culture.

Across regions, the appeal is strikingly consistent. In a recent multimarket study, 68% of UK households said that receiving a printed catalog “marks the beginning of the holiday season.” In Japan, nearly 60% of families still consult seasonal gift guides as part of their New Year tradition. In Germany, catalog circulation for winter campaigns rose by 11% in 2024, suggesting a growing appetite for tactile shopping resources. This renewed interest is not about nostalgia; it is about clarity and calm in a season that often feels overwhelming.

A catalog slows the tempo. Instead of scrolling through endless grids, shoppers settle into a different rhythm. In Canada, 52% of shoppers say catalogs “help reduce digital

overload” during the holidays. In India, where multi-generational households shop collaboratively, 41% of families report using printed brochures to coordinate gift planning. Even in sun-soaked Australia, where the holidays are spent outdoors, retailers note that catalogs are often carried to cafés and beaches—absorbed leisurely and shared freely.

Touch remains one of print’s quiet superpowers. Research in Italy and France shows that physical media increases memory retention by up to 20% compared with digital equivalents. In the United States, a 2025 consumer study found that nearly half of Millennials and Gen Z feel a stronger emotional connection to a brand when they receive something printed. This emotional response deepens when people interact with the pages—folding corners, circling items, leaving notes. These gestures, while simple, anchor the shopping experience in a way that digital interfaces can’t replicate.

But the modern catalog is not an analog relic, it is a hybrid tool.

Retailers worldwide are merging print with technology in thoughtful ways. In Spain, a home décor brand integrated QR codes into its winter catalog and saw a 38% increase in

mobile conversions. In South Korea, a beauty company introduced AR-enabled catalog pages that let customers preview products; the result was a 25% rise in average order value. Across the U.S., brands report that customers who engage with both catalog and digital channels spend 20–30% more than online-only shoppers. Print inspires; digital completes.

Longevity gives catalogs another strategic advantage. While digital ads vanish in seconds, printed catalogs remain in the home for an average of three weeks, according to tracking studies across seven countries. During this time, they are typically revisited multiple times—61% of households report returning to the same catalog two or more times before making final decisions. And unlike digital media, which competes for instant attention, a catalog rests quietly until someone is ready to engage.

Sustainability, once a concern, is becoming a pillar of modern print.

In Europe, over 70% of catalog paper now comes from certified sustainable forests. Many North American printers have shifted to recycled fibers and low-VOC inks, while Asian manufacturers are adopting waterless and energy-efficient production methods. These advancements have made it easier for brands to embrace print without compromising environmental values—something consumers increasingly notice and appreciate.

The resurgence of the holiday catalog is not a sentimental return to the past. It is a response to the emotional and sensory void left by an over-digitized world. In a season defined by speed, alerts, and algorithmic predictions, a printed catalog offers something more grounded: a pause, a tactile moment, a spark of imagination. It has re-emerged not because people long for yesterday, but because they long for depth in the present.

And so this year, as festive lights shimmer across cities and screens alike, a simple printed booklet continues its quiet journey into homes around the world, inviting shoppers to slow down, dream a little, and rediscover the pleasure of turning a page.
