MU S E U M OF PALE ON TOLOGY & CE N TE R F OR F OS S I L RE S E ARC H
01 MUSEUM OF PALEONTOLOGY AND CENTER FOR FOSSIL RESEARCH THE BRIEF Due to the recent sudden increase in fossil findings within the country and the onset of global climatic change on larger magnitudes, the need to preserve, research and study these fossil evidences have become more prevalent. Indian fossil sites of national importance are facing the threat of vandalism and trafficking due to lack of protection also the specimens which do make it to museums are left in dilapidated conditions without proper care. Collected specimens are often misplaced, lost or damaged beyond repair due to improper storage and archiving facilities. Research centres in India do not have the amenities for maintaining fossil evidences – this leads to international paleontologists to lay hold of these specimens for research to their own countries and finally displaying them in their museums.
A centre which has research laboratories, appropriate technology and instruments to carry out research along with a museum facility which opens its doors to the general public, young children and students for rekindling their love and interest in this subject.
SITE AND CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
Major fossil sites in India
The concept involved taking inspiration from multiple facets of paleontology and fossil excavations. The museum pathway is designed to take the visitor on a journey through different eras.
Project Type: Design Dissertation (sem-10) Location: Gandhinagar, Gujarat

Enhancing experience for the visitor
The state of Gujarat has been blessed with an abundance of naturally preserved fossils of bones and fossil eggs and nesting sites. It houses two of the world’s largest dinosaur hatcheries as well – Indroda and Balasinor. These sites have been recognized by the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and have been enlisted as sites of natural heritage. Along with the Gujarat Ecological Education and Research foundation (GEER), GSI was able to demarcate the Indroda fossil park in Gandhinagar which was found to be one of the major nesting sites in India.

THE SITE The site located in Gandhinagar which is the state capital and is known for its upcoming infrastructure programs, its natural fossil sites and its multiple tourist attractions. The selected site is surrounded by various building typologies. Towards the north of the site across the road lies the Gujarat Forest research institute and Forest department. A few metres from the site, the Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines is located. Along the western side are a few residential complexes along with Sardar Vallabhai Patel school, St Xavier’s School and surrounded with lush greenery along the southwest side which brings major winds filtered into the site. Towards the south east, a km from the site runs the Sabarmati river and lies the Sarita Udyan Garden. The site is in vicinity to the GEER foundation and the Indroda Fossil site which play a role in the paleontological findings of Gujarat.

THE PROGRAMME The aim of the center and the museum is to serve as a place which pays homage to the state and the country’s rich fossil and geological heritage. They are designed based on multiple facets of the geological timeline and the on-site fossil excavation scene. Upon entry to the centre, visitors are guided to the lower level of the museum after ticket collection - kickstarting their journey through time. There are total seven proposed galleries, each themed on a particular geological era which birthed multiple pre-historic organisms on the Indian subcontinent and the state of Gujarat. They are- Past Worlds Gallery - Triassic Gallery - Jurassic Gallery - Cretaceous Gallery - Today’s World - Land and Life Gallery - Special Exhibits Gallery The entire complex is divided into multiple zones based on user group and division of public and private spaces. The museum buildings housing gallery spaces, amenities building having public spaces such as restaurants, shops, library, etc while the research building sits primarily oriented towards paleontological research and documentation of findings.

02 NEW R OADS - A MULTI-MODAL TRANSIT HUB
THE BRIEF
A Multi Modal Transportation Hub is identified as a transport node, which integrates various modes of public transport systems as well as it is integrated with passenger transit based activities. The hub serves as a single system that enables seamless passenger transfer. The major advantages of this Transportation Hub are the shared resources and passenger facilities, which decrease the land use requirements while it increases overall capacity of the system.
View of the selected site towards the WEH
The design program will create an understanding of today’s market and the skills to handle such projects. The program also will help in creating architectural vocabulary with scope of more creativity in terms of spaces. Thus the Transportation Hub provides a focal point in Transportation Network that seamlessly integrates different modes of transport. Multi-modal supportive infrastructure, and place making strategies to create activity centers to maximize first mile last mile connectivity. View of the selected site towards the muncipality colony
Project Type: Transit Hub with Commercial and Retail (sem-9) Location: Bandra East, BKC View of the interior part of the site
22
CONCEPT AND DESIGN APPROACH
Lines to show the passenger flow in a straightforward direction to align the incoming crowd towards the entrance of the transit station. Blocks housing specific functions are designed in such a manner that they create open pockets and breathing spaces within different locations in the facility for various transitional experiences. Keeping pedestrian flow as a priority it was deemed mandatory to have a central access to the terminal building and commercial complex. Since harsh evening sunlight is from the western periphery, the commercial complex is planned in a manner such that it shades the arrival pedestrian plaza. Accordingly a wind tunnel/channel is proposed via the commercial building to cool the central space.
23
24
THE SITE The proposed Site identified is at Bandra. The Bandra terminus and Bandra Local Train station both are in close vicinity to each yet the connection between both is very poor in regards with commuters access. Similarly with the upcoming Metro station Project, there is a need of a Transportation Hub. This is coming up as a Transportation Hub with The area is in need of entertainment and recreation spaces as well.
The site at present can be accessed by the two roads. These are: • Anant Kanekar Marg connecting Western Express Highway to Bandra Terminus. The approximate width of this road is 23 meters • Service Road adjoining IOC building The width of this road is approximately 12 m.
The service road starts from Anant Kanekar Marg and ends near the water supply pipe line along the Western Express Highway approaching from Bandra to Dahisar. Power, Water, Sewerage and Solid Waste Management: The site is the only vacant large land parcel in an otherwise developed area with IOC building just abutting it. Physical infrastructure like power, water, sewerage and solid waste management facilities are available in the area.
25
THE PROGRAMME
This Transportation Hub house various activities utilizing floor space. These activities are categories as:
• Administrative Zone: Areas utilized under administrative and operation control facilities for transport organizations. • Operational Zone: This shall be identified as Bus movement for state and city transport. • Passenger Facility Zone: Platform for railways and terminal/station area for bus passenger facility. • Passenger Transfer/Transportation Zone: Are utilized for passenger transport including passenger plaza, gangways and vertical circulation. • Infrastructure Zone: These activities shall include space for hub infrastructure including roads for area accessibility improvement, physical infrastructure and public open spaces. • Commercial Zone: This is identified as floor space that shall be leased or rented for private purpose. Parking space is also considered as commercial commodity. • Parking Zone: This may include Multi level car parking for commuters and other sers of the development.

03 HARMONY - A CO-LIVING RESIDENTIAL HOUSING
THE BRIEF
Mumbai suffers from the same major urbanisation problems seen in many fast growing cities in developing countries – widespread poverty and poor public health, employment, civic and educational standards for a large section of the population.
With available space at a premium, Mumbai residents often reside in cramped, relatively expensive housing, usually far from workplaces, and therefore requiring long commutes on crowded mass transit, or clogged roadways. According to the Business Week, around 45-48% of the population lives in shantytowns and slums.
The design programme looks at addressing various qualitative and quantitative issues of mass housing schemes in Mumbai. It also aims to understand and tackle the changes in ownership patterns in the current scenario to achieve a more holistic community living along with the ideas of sustainability, modern mobility and shared infrastructures.
CONCEPT APPROACH Housing and living as a community requires a sense of belonging which is fueled by interaction among neighbours and people part of the surrounding one is in. Sketches were developed portraying overlooking terraces, common transitional spaces and places of interaction in relation to the interior and exterior.

04 URBAN PLANNING - GOREGAON EAST (PAHADI) THE BRIEF The city of Mumbai is Megapolis and densely populated. The city is facing environmental issues due to demand and supply gaps between services and amenities. Revival of various natural elements, restructuring of the city’s land use, rethinking infrastructural facilities, revitalizing transportation systems will surely lead to sustainable development.
REASONS FOR SITE SELECTION - Despite being in vicinity to the railway station, there is a lot of traffic congestion during peak hours of the day. - Improper road planning with almost no footpaths in the main areas having shopping centers and offices. - Improper distribution and zoning of amenities such as industrial zone, commercial zone and open spaces. - Unavailability of adequate parking spaces - Illegal activities occur at night around open parks and gardens due to lack of proper lighting. - Improper road connectivity issues

PROPOSAL 1. Since the goal is to create a transit oriented development, the commercial and industrial zone has been placed in the front edge of the site towards the upcoming metro and WEH to provide easy accessibility to commuters. 2. Currently there is a large concentration of public amenities in one area of the site so for the proposal it has been distributed into smaller sections throughout the site. 3. Overall, the crowding of one particular type of land use has been changed to a mixed use type planning. 4. Since the present land use percentage of industrial reservation is more than the required limit as per the URDPFI, the excess land has been converted to residential and open spaces. Due to lack of open green spaces, the Environmental Consideration for the proposed site includes increase in the number of green spaces, so as to meet the requirements set by the URDPFI

SEATING IN THE PLAZA - Seating has been provided in the food plaza for the visitors as there aren’t any seatings present currently. - Vibrant colours have been used for the tables to create a lively atmosphere in the area. - Colourful canvas roofing has also been proposed to add shade in the area.
SMART BUS STOPS These bus stops respond in real time to customer queries, changes in bus schedules, and
traffic conditions to keep customers informed about the status of their journey. Enhanced communication: The bus stops are integrated with real time communication systems which will enable customers to track the information about the next buses, or check the bus route. These digital displays usually have the capacity to change automatically if a bus will be arriving earlier than expected, if the bus is delayed, or if a route has to be changed at short notice

Creativity: Art work, miniature lending libraries, free Wi-Fi, are a few of the creative additions to the smart bus stops. These creative additions help customers waiting at the bus stop to feel less bored and frustrated as they wait for their bus to arrive.
- Smart Dustbins with colour coding have been installed at regular intervals along the road to ensure proper segregation of waste. - Water Fountains have been provided by the bus stop. - This has been done to encourage people to maintain clean streets and to fit into the criterias for a smart city.
Attractive and eco-friendly designs: The bus stop also has solar panels on its roof to generate free Wi-Fi or to power game and digital bus timetables. Plantations along the periphery of the bus stop add to the ambience.

W ORK E XPE RI E N CE - I N TE RN SHIP
07 INTERNSHIP - FICUS Landscape Architects AMPHITHEATER DESIGN - IIHS, KENGERI
The Indian Institute of Human Settlements (IIHS) is a 54acre, multiple phased development campus, designed on the principle of near zero run off and near zero waste. As a part of the guiding principle the construction management strategy required large volumes of excavated earth to be utilized on site. One of the tactics was to create a series of stepped terraces in which a playfield and a phased DEVATS system could be integrated. The transition between the playfield and the dewats access is a public spine which leads to an academic drive. The transition of slope directs itself into a curve. This space is articulated into a public amphitheater with a seating capacity of 700 persons. This interfaces with the pit which is used as well. The design strategy looks at repressing the wall as an underground water retaining chamber covered with an RCC slab having multiple circular skylights. This allows the amphitheater geometry to be completed.
My role in this project was to prepare a series of review drawings which included- Riparian zone amphitheater layout plan - Riparian zone amphitheater sections - Calculate seating capacity - Basic model

A 14 acre site forest resort where the twin villas a part of the phase 3 development. The landscape design suggested proposed layout along with the realignment of the washroom zone to create garden courts with mini pools - which would provide an arrival experience to the visitor before accessing the sitting room. The open space is divided into four broad zones -

09 INTERNSHIP - FICUS Landscape Architects SITAKUND WATERFALL - EXPERIENTIAL DESIGN CONCEPTUALIZ ATION The Sitakund waterfall is an outdoor tourist attraction serving as a part of the Simlipal Tiger reserve of Odisha. This waterfall is located at Mayurbhanj district of Odisha and belongs to the Simlipal National Park. This place is known for its relation to Hinduism and the scenic natural waterfall attracts thousands of tourists every year. Despite being a part of a reserve, the waterfall site lacks a proper experience zone and safety trails for pedestrians. The design intervention seeks to bring about better tourist space - encompassing signages, safe pedestrian trails and walkways, arrival zones with visitor facilities, toilets at every rest/base point and multiple picnic spots within range from the waterfall.
