PROJECT INDEX About me My name is Vicky Meng. An Asian architect from Xinjiang, China. With professional experience in different countries for more than 6 years. And I am always looking for opportunities to learn with challenges. My experiences in different countries have always involved both professional and academic aspects. Since I completed my study and 2 more years of working in Shanghai. I have mostly lived, studied, and worked in Japan. During my early years of stay in Japan, I spent the most time doing the internship. I also had the opportunity to do work in Paris during that period. After the pandemic, I decided to do advanced study in the UK. Currently, I am studying for my Master’s Degree in Architecture and Urbanism course in Manchester. I will be graduating in the autumn of 2022. Selected work Academic work -->A Professional work -->P

1. QINGZHEN WETLAND MUSEUM The first large scale timber structured public building in China
Project Description: Qingzhen Wetland Museum is a place to exhibit the local wetland academic, and this building itself, is also a place to introduce Guiyang culture and ethnic characteristics. Guiyang is home to the most diverse ethnic groups in China. The people there maintain traditional and sustainable lifestyles and are very valuable in the world. It can be said that the city itself is a museum. In such traditional life, the ethnic groups retain superb architectural techniques, especially the large timber structure technique is very prominent. Therefore, the main design concept of this museum is to use traditional timber structure technique, and to transform it into modern architecture. Responsibility in Project: The project team consists of 5 architects. I joined this project in the SD phase. I was mainly responsible for the plan, roof structure study and partial visualization work, as well as the presentation booklet. In the roof design, it needs to be done in cooperation with the structural engineer. I was also in charge of communicating with lighting design company. 2. ZEN WELLNESS SEINEI Meditation doji capsule hotel in the air
Project Description: Zen Wellness Seinei a Zen-themed capsule hotel. Zen refers to the Japanese forms of Zen Buddhism, the meditative training of awareness and equanimity. This hotel is mainly to attract foreign tourists to understand and experience Japanese culture. This project is located in the jungle on the outskirts of Awaji. The second floor of meditation platform overlooks the surrounding woods, which is more conducive to spiritual purification. Responsibility in Project: I participate separately in the schematic design and construction design phases in this project. I was mainly responsible for the 3D modelling and visualization work in SD. Detail drawings and communicate with landscape company in CD. Project type: Location: Year of work: Total area: Professional field:

7. HORIZONTAL TIME IN BASELWORLD Baselworld 2019 Citizen Watch Exibition
Project Description: Citizen watch hold exhibition in Basel each a few years. The previous show was in 2016. The concept of the exhibition is ‘the gears of time have been turning ever since humanity first became conscious of the concept, and there is no doubt that we will continue to contemplate time in the future. Accordingly, we have time to thank for the present, and when we cast our gaze to an uncharted future, time too casts its reach.’ Responsibility in Project: This project was one of the dominate project I was working on during my 4 months internship in Paris. I was working on proposing the watch display holder and testing the idea in schematic design phase. At the construction design phase, the team was consists 4 people in total (2 staffs and 2 interns). I have participated the making design documents, step and stair detail drawings, as well as the construction design of the entrance tunnel. 1F PLAN AX1

9. PROLIFERATING DROSSCAPE Evaluating Land Waste Within Central Manchester
This study is to propose the existence of wastelands to the masses. Wasteland may sound negative, but they also have values. I cannot say if the wasteland is right or wrong, because it has a reason for existence. Moreover, everyone understands wasteland differently: residents might say, I do not feel these abandoned landscapes have any impact on my life. Tourists might say, I like these abandoned landscapes, they have character, and they represent the city. Architects and planners might say, these vacant lots need to be remodelled to be more aesthetically pleasing. Geographers might say, these abandoned landscapes should be returned to nature. This research provides a profile for these diverse role populations and also lays the groundwork for future research. Project type: Location: Year of work: Professional field:
Dissertation research Manchester, United Kingdom 2021 Urbanism Research
Mapping GM
Applying Berger’s methodology to the wasteland in Great Manchester by using Google Earth to locate the site of wasteland (See Map above). What kind of land is selected in Map? The selection of locations is a large area of vacant parking lots, brownfields, landfills, trash dumping grounds, circular plan sewage plants or chemical plants (abandoned factory will not show company name on Google map), concrete vacant lots, etc.
Mapping GM is a useful resource site that is provided by the authority. This site provides an approximate map of the landfill.

This List contains 31 books which include the previous paragraphs of six key literatures. The rest of literatures are not additional literatures, but must-read literature before starting the research.
ACADEMIC
OUTCOMES The conclusion answers the questions below: • Does Berger’s methodology applicable for Manchester? • What is the attitude when facing the proliferating Drosscapes? • How should we deal with the ‘Degree of Intervention’? • What is the value of wasteland?

10. SOUND MUSEUM Exploring the local culture through daily urban music
The highlight of this project is the transformation of the invisible into the tangible. The concept of the project is to show the cultural background of Japan being brought to life by collecting the urban music of the Taito district of Tokyo. This culture is not about the worldly wellknown part of Japan, it is about the true natural condition of how human and non-human life in this megacity. This project is emphasising the flexibility of using natural lights in space. The Sound Art Museum needs to consider the overall visual and auditory experience of the visitors, so according to the needs of the exhibits, the atmosphere created by the soundproof walls and light will have an important impact on the space. 11. GINZA GREEN TOWER Sustainable Mixed-use commercial office building
This project aims to respond the environmental and finacial concern in Ginza district. Ginza district is famours for shopping high-end brand and designer products. Many leading fashion houses’ flagship stores are located here, in the area with the highest concentration of Western shops in Tokyo. The financial strategy is aimed at the fact that the retail operating income is still on a downward trend from 2016 to 2018 while accounting for 48.1% of the total number of tourists. Environmental strategy is where commercial buildings are concentrated, the greening rate is relatively low, but it is possible that green space is being developed using the roof of the facility in Ginza. 12. FLOATING HIGH ROAD Rejuvenate and bring back the bustling Jinling Road
Jinlin East Road covers an area of 0.75 square kilometers. There are more than 29,300 households with a population of 82,200 people. The most of the roads in the territory were built in the middle and late 19th century. Since then, the French Concession filled Zhoujing and built Minti Niyin Road (now Tibet South Road) in the twenty-sixth year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1900). Culture, education, health and other undertakings in the territory developed rapidly. The residents living on Jinling East Road are mostly old-schoolpeople in Shanghai. Because of the development of the Nanjing economic circle in the north, the south has gradually lost its former vitality. The purpose of this project is to establish rejuvenate the economic development. A smart mobile applets is designed to make more convenient for local residents. 13. SPIRAL STAIRS SHAREDHOMES Design on limited space in Central Tokyo
This is a residential housing project near Hongo-sanchome metro ststion. This neighbourhood is fairly expensive due to its predominant location. This zone is more of mixed-use of conmmercial and residential area. The concept of the SPIRAL STAIRS SHAREDHOMES is to break the traditional room relations fuzz the space of ‘in’ and ‘out’. Recording the local building code law, ‘one half or more of the circumference effectively open to the outside air can be treated as an outdoor staircase.’ Combining the indoor area and outdoor area by using staircase, also adding more greeness at thevertical vision. Using the limited space smartly creating a high qulitly housing complex. Project type: Location: Year of work: Total area: Professional field:
