We’re back!

2019 was a banner year for SSMPC. We had record high dividends, a myriad of fun and profitable activities such as bingos and bazaars, and ambitious plans for 2020 onward as we transitioned from a Micro to a Small Cooperative. But with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020, the world screeched to a grinding halt. Seniors were among those most affected by the lockdowns and health protocols imposed to contain the pandemic.

During 2020-21, SSMPC continued functioning nevertheless. At times when face-toface activities were halted, the Board of Directors and Officers (BOD) held meetings online in search of ways to maintain, if not improve, the Coop’s profitability.

The Newsletter’s last issue was in 2019. After a 2-year hiatus, the Newsletter is back reborn, renewed, reinvigorated. This January 2022 issue presents some of the important information and activities of SSMPC during 2020-21 and on-going events in 2022. It is also the New Year’s issue. Let us all look forward to 2022 that is filled with hope, joy, and gratitude as we continue to share our talents and blessings with the everyone around us.

Sixth General Assembly and Elections, 27 September 2021 SSMPC’s sixth General Assembly (GA) and Elections were held last 27 September 2021 in an online ZOOM meeting with 26 members in attendance. This replaced the GA that were not held in 2020 due to the pandemic. Online elections were held prior to the GA in which 42 members cast their votes. Elecom Chair Ellen Romero proclaimed the 7 election winners. The first 4 with the highest number of votes - Leilani Canullas, Lourdes Domingo, Marsha Santos, and Erlinda Abrigo - will serve for 2 years, 20222023, while the remaining 3 - Leticia Elegado, Adoracion Cunningham, and Erlinda Garcia will serve for 1 year, 2022.

BOD Christmas Party, 6 December 2021 The BOD celebrated Christmas at the Glass Tower with a simple packed meal immediately following the regular monthly board meeting held last 6 December 2021.

It was a pleasure to see each other in person after numerous online meetings. With gratitude to our Lord and Creator for continued good health and everything that has transpired during the pandemic and prayers for a better 2022, they exchanged good tidings and best wishes and extended their greetings to all SSMPC members and their loved ones. The celebration was capped by an exchange of gifts.

Dividends “go South” The unexpected sudden onset of the pandemic, concomitant lockdowns, and mobility restrictions specially for those over 65 years of age prevented SSMPC to engage in the usual income-generating activities such as the bingo, bazaar, auction, and leisure travel. This resulted in a dramatic decrease in SSMPC’S dividends by 80%, plummeting from the record high of P233,723 in 2019 to P46,390 in 2020. The dividends for 2021 are being finalised for distribution in 2022.

Calling all 2022 PMES participants The Cooperative Development Authority, in compliance with RA 9520 and RA 6539, requires all incoming cooperative members to attend the Pre-Membership Education Seminar (PMES) so that they may obtain a brief overview of cooperatives (meaning, principles, types, etc.) in general and SSMPC in particular. Due to the absence of PMES sessions during 2020-2021, the BOD is scheduling some sessions during the first months of 2022 online and/or in-person at the Glass Tower. The following 10 new members are required to attend: Divina Abad Santos, Absalud Elena, Absalud Udarico, Epifania Acebedo, Edna Biscocho, Josie Gonzalez, Cecilia Hafalla, Ester Pancho, and Josefina Soriano. Those in the list who have not yet been contacted are kindly requested to message Elvie Borje, General Manager, on Viber or Messenger to schedule a session.

Membership - Watch this space!

In June 2019, SSMPC was upgraded from a micro to a small cooperative. Plans to increase the number of members and expand our reach throughout District 1 were stymied by the pandemic. There were 85 members in 2019, 88 members in 2020, 85 members in 2021. The BOD is now devising a more creative approach to expanding membership. More information on the membership campaign will be available in the coming months.

Outreach forever In 2020, SSMPC donated our Community Development Fund of P16,000 to the victims of typhoon Ulysses through ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. In 2021, the remaining balance of the fund amounting to P2,500 was donated to the Sisters of the Poor Home for the Elderly for the purchase of requested adult diapers.

Wellness sessions now monthly In response to popular demand, wellness sessions are coming back. Adoracion Cunningham, Director, who conducts the sessions will cover today’s hot topics increasing immunity at the time of Covid, products for better health, etc.

Due to the recent imposition of Level 3 restrictions and continuing uncertainties with the country’s health situation, the wellness sessions will be conducted once a month, on a Wednesday, in person or online depending on existing health protocols and could commence after January 2022.

Goodbye coffee vendo machines We bid goodbye to our two coffee vendo coffee machines due to the lack of demand for drinks resulting from health protocols and quarantine restrictions. The functioning unit at the Glass Tower was sold for P6,000 to Nurse Mona and awaiting relocation to the Satellite Clinic. The faulty unit at the Barangay main office was sold for P1,500 to Noel Salde, the Barangay’s maintenance man. All the coffee supplies with expiry dates not beyond 6 months were given to Barangay SK workers.
