almness has once again returned to Lion Land and it is well deserved. I think there are very few clubs in Southern Africa that can match what Sheppie Lions have achieved in one month. For any club, no matter it's size, to plan and execute two major fund-raisers in one month takes real skill and commitment from all members and above all, courage from the project conveners. Guys, we have done it. Lion Gary Vogt pulled of one of the best Golf Days I've ever attended. He once again secured a major sponsor for the event and I'm sure the Golf Day is only going to get better and more profitable. In true Sheppie Lions fashion, the team came out in force to support Lion Gary. Then, four days later we kicked off with our brand new Expo. Here Lion Ronald and his team really excelled.
The Pride of the Hibiscus Coast
I've observed g o o d leadership from Lion Ronald and all the portfolio holders. A truly remarkable achievement from the best Lions Club in South Africa and the best bunch of Lions and Lion Ladies I’ve ever seen. Let us not forget the helpers. Without them we would have struggled. The feed back we got received so far, suggests that we are on the right track and we must continue with our efforts to renew and refresh the Expo. Every year should bring a new theme. Hats off and a BIG salute to you all. Andre Beneke Club President
Lion President Andre and fellow Lions, Congratulations on a well organized Expo. It was really enjoyable. To the Lions Ladies congratulation on your food it was outstanding. May this Expo and its new venue go from strength to strength. Yours in Lionism DG Heather
We are really looking forward to seeing the 'new' show this year. All the best Sheppie Lions.......we are sure it is going to be a hit and many more years of the Expo to come! See you all there!! We would also like to thank you for all your efforts in raising funds for charities. We are ever grateful for all you do for us!

2014 Lions Outdoor & Leisure Expo
We Served with Pride!!
he 2014 Lions Outdoor & Leisure Expo far exceeded the expectations of the event organisers, the Lions Club of Port Shepstone. This year, as promised, the Expo Committee took into account the many suggestions offered by our supporting public and managed to secure a superb venue at the Port Shepstone Country Club. The layout of the new Expo was re-designed to provide maximum exposure for all exhibitors, both indoor and outdoor. For the first time ever, there was ample parking right next to the Expo grounds and the new toilet facilities that were very kindly sponsored by M-Projects, were constantly maintained by a dedicated cleaning staff. The electricity for virtually the entire event was provided by generators and Mascor kindly allowed the use of their generator on display at their stand after one of the generators powering the entertainment tent became faulty. The Event started off with the Lions' "Laugh Out Loud" Comedy Evening on Thursday. Over 850 tickets were sold and the entertainment tent was packed. Guests were served with a 3 course meal by members of YouthworX who worked extremely hard to ensure that all guests were fed by the time the entertainers began with their performance. The Gee Jays performance was excellent and had the audience dancing until late into the night. This whole event was a huge success and the organisers are most grateful for the overwhelming support received from the many local companies who attended en masse. Friday is traditionally a slow day however a fair number of visitors attended and browsed through the many exhibitions on display. Expo stand judges, led by Mr John Graham took time to visit all the stands and begin with the adjudication process. Friday night's entertainment started off with a performance by local band "The Harkin Kings" followed by another local band "Chewing The Hornets". Both of these bands were well received by the party goers. The bands were followed by the "Battle of the DJ'S" which was won by local DJ, Charl Van Loggerenberg. This was followed by internationally acclaimed DJ duo "2 AM" who kept the audience dancing until the early hours of the following morning. The organisers also provided a mechanical bull which was placed outside the entertainment tent and provided much laughter and entertainment.

he Saturday edition of the Expo was very well supported. Visitors started to stream through the gates shortly after opening time. Helicopter rides were available throughout the weekend and this proved to be very popular, providing those who participated with a magnificent view of the beautiful venue and its surroundings. The entertainment schedule started off with a very enjoyable Dance Explosion display in the entertainment tent followed by the semi-finals of the 2014 Miss Lions Expo Pageant. The official opening ceremony took place in the main arena. HCM Speaker Ronnie Nair addressed the audience, thanked the Lions for their fine efforts in community service and officially opened the Expo. Port Shepstone Lions Club President Andre Beneke and Expo Convener Ronald Tarboton also addressed the audience and expressed their appreciation to all involved with the Expo. Other official dignitaries included the Lions District Governor, Heather Hardman and the reigning Miss Lions Show 2013, Brook Haslam. This was followed by the official exhibitor prize giving ceremony. A total of 87 exhibits were on display at this year's Show. The following prizes were awarded :

he prize giving ceremony was followed by an exciting display by word famous extreme biker, Brian Capper who captivated the large crowds with his daring motorbike stunts, an entertaining puppet show for the kids, a superb pipe band demonstration by the Margate Pipers and a repeat performance by the legendary Brian Capper.
There was live rugby on the big screens in the Entertainment tent for most of the afternoon which was followed by plenty of live entertainment which carried on until the early hours of the following morning. The live entertainment started off with local band "Flat Tyre Groove" followed by the legendary Brian Finch and his band. The main attraction for the evening was Idols winner, Jason Hartman who performed superbly for the audience. The various bands and singers were very well received by their many fans who attended. A demonstration of designer dresses created by renown fashion designer Kevin Ellis also featured during one of the intervals. On Sunday morning, the arena opened at 09:30 with a parade and float procession which included the reigning Miss Lions Show 2013, dancers from the Dance Explosion, models wearing Kevin Ellis designer dresses and the finalists for the 2014 Miss Lions Expo Pageant. This was followed by the prize giving ceremony for the Dance Explosion Extravaganza and the finals for the Miss Lions Expo 2014 Pageant. The winners were announced as follows : 3-6 category 1st Nkanyezi Cele 2nd Aphelele Gumede 3rd Elaine Mazeka
7-10 1st:Anica Botha 2nd: Lethokuhle Khumalo 3rd: Emma Rumble
11-14 1st Naledi Nongawuza 2nd:" Caitlin Rust 3rd: Nqobile Gumede
15 to 24 1st: Katelyn Thompson 2nd: Kayla Francesconi 3rd: Micaela Gomez
The Hibiscus Kennel Club also performed a very entertaining dog agility display in the main arena which was followed by another puppet show for the kids. Brian Capper then performed another of his exciting stunt displays. Visitors were then invited into the entertainment tent to enjoy the sounds of HunTer and her band who provided live entertainment until closure of the Expo at 17:00. Judging by the numerous compliments that were received by both exhibitors and visitors alike, the Expo was a great success. Early indications are showing that the profits far exceed those of the previous year and all the proceeds will go towards our various service projects. Our heartfelt gratitude to all our visitors, exhibitors, helpers, entertainers and our local press who attended en masse to show their support of this amazing event. The organisers owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Port Shepstone Country Club for allowing us to use their magnificent venue as well as all our very generous sponsors and helpers. Lions, Lion Ladies and helpers are all volunteers and all gave up their entire weekend - at their own personal expense to make this project a success. The wonderful citizens of the Hibiscus Coast have reassured the organisers that this event must continue and, should the same venue be secured for next year, the Expo will definitely exceed all expectations.
