H
I fellow Lions. Glad to see that we all made it through the busy Easter Weekend, School Holidays and also the Africa Bike Week. A busy time for us on the South Coast. The Club is busy gearing up for our two big Fund raisers, namely the Lions/ Illovo Golf Day and then, soon after that the Lions Show. These two events take up a large amount of time and thanks must go to Lion Gary Vogt for all the time and effort he has put in for the Golf Day which is on the 21st May, and also to Lion Jean Masson for the amazing effort he puts into convening the Lions Show, which will take place from the 14th to 17th July. It is at these fund raisers that we see the true Sheppie Lions spirit as they pull together as a team. A large number of us attended the Ballito Multiple District 410 Convention and a great time was had by all. A Low light was an almost two hour debate on Christmas cakes, but there were many highlights. The main being the Induction of our very own P D G and C C E , Denis Meyer, into the post of Council Chairman for the 2016/2017 Lionistic Year. The second being the dance antics of our very own Alistair ”John Revolting” Warman. You entertained us Al, Thanks very much. A great time was had by all, and you only have yourself to blame if you did not enjoy yourself. We had another successful Diabetes testing morning with the statistics showing the scary reality that there are people out there not aware of their sugar levels. The Progressive dinner went off very well. A concern
though is why we have to pay so much for a comedy Act for the Lions Show, when we have so much talent within our Club! Who knows, next year we could have “Chad Le Clos” Leggett doing the opening splash for us! We have about 50 Kids from St Martin’s Youth Care Centre, Paddock, and approx 30 Pensioners from the Flower Foundation, attending the Brian Boswell Circus. Thanks to Georgina Boswell and Team for this very kind gesture and also for the work you are doing for the community. Lastly, Thanks to all those Lions who have taken up Director posts for the new 2016/2017 Lionistic Year and who will be there for another year when I will continue as President. Let’s make it a great year.” Jeff Smith Club President

A case of mistaken identity? Nope, just another Convention momento brought back by some of the Lions who attended the Ballito Convention. They will now wait in anticipation for the Ballito Lions to raid and reciprocate!
