At Memory Lane, we believe that people with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and other related dementias can continue to engage in meaningful activities and communications, especially when receiving support that is carefully tailored to their cognitive issues. Backed by current research, we have found that multi-sensory stimulation environments produce immediate positive effects on the behavior and mood of those with dementia. Through innovative use of digital media and this multi sensory approach, our program enables dynamic, non-directive, communication between the participant and the caregiver. Such communication raises the quality of life and creates a sense of wellbeing, allowing positive reminiscence and a satisfying expression of a sense of self. Our on-demand video platform is the result of the combination of several therapeutics methods: guided imagery, auditory stimulation, therapeutic music, chronobiology (the study of biological rhythms), olfactory stimulation, customized reminiscence. Our library of therapeutic and interactive film sessions is used to stimulate cognitive functions and the episodic memory of the viewers through specific customized multi-sensory content. Our intervention focuses on a humanistic, person-centered approach to care, and it can be highly customized, captivating viewer's attention and providing the necessary respite for all involved. A gentle yet powerful tool, offering dignity and a new innovative way to ancre the viewers into a mindful moment. The first protocol is used to establish a sense of time of day in the viewer’s mind; the second is employed to support interaction between the viewer and the caregiver throughout the use of our intervention. Temporal references are critical because they orient patients in their own past-presentfuture continuum while amplifying their sense of the present moment. Also critical is the viewer-caregiver interaction because it brings the viewer yet further into the present. Together, these protocols allow the intervention to be distributed across the day with guided imagery reinforcing the flow of time. The result is a reduction in the experience of confusion and disorientation that so profoundly disturb people living with dementia. As confusion and disorientation wane, viewers experience a relaxation response with accompanying stress relief. Each session is accompanied with a usage protocol and guidance tool: best time of the day to administrate, interaction incentive for reminiscence tool, use of light, sound and olfactory devices, interaction guidelines for caregivers. Fierce Courage to us all, Alban Maino Founder of Memory-Lane

Philosophy, Goals, and Benefits Regular television is not design for people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, and it can, in fact, be confusing and alienating to them. Typically, commercial television's style is fragmented, fastpaced, and youth-oriented, with multiple interwoven narratives and recurring characters engaged in complex exchanges. To follow most regular television shows requires a well-functioning short-term memory and a knowledge of current popular culture. In these ways, they are neither appropriate nor pleasurable for people living with dementia. In contrast, the Memory-Lane program films are created to work well with people with distinctive cognitive styles and needs. Our films use a cinematic high-definition technique, temporal references, and guided imagery to help ground viewers in the present moment to particular times of the day and evening. This process is comforting and reassuring to patients, many of whom have become adrift in time, due to debilitating circadian disorders. The protocol calls for 5 to 15 sessions per week and accessible by caregivers as 10 to 60 minutes sessions, through specific films for different time periods throughout the day, offering temporal references and moments of respite in a long day. Memory Lane Tv can be used as an tool to manage anxiety, stress and sundowning’s syndrome. Developed by a committee of geriatric physicians, psychiatrists and occupational therapists, our intervention integrates the full range of reminiscence stimuli into a single combination therapeutic package. The core of the combination method is an innovative guided imagery technique accompanied by music or ambient sound; multiple stimuli are carefully crafted for maximum flexibility and impact. Two key delivery protocols and overlaid on the guided imagery-music core: chronobiology-based temporal references and segmented structuring of stimulus delivery. The goals of Memory-Lane are proven a useful, non-pharmacologic intervention to lessen the neuropsychologic symptoms of dementia, such as wandering, calling out, decreased alertness, anxiety, and agitation. Memory-Lane has been shown to relieve stress levels and in so doing, help to create positive, cooperative interactions. We address all the senses in our programs, including a sense of time, giving our methodology its true impact and effectiveness. We designed the product to be supportive, positive, easy to implement, and convenient to integrate into daily routines. Additionally, it was developed as a palliative-care method to accompany or supplement traditional care, and it can help to reduce antipsychotic medication usage. Our collection of films delivers a unique multi sensory approach that can be used successfully in a wide variety of setting such as nursing care facilities, adult day programs, and most importantly at home, everywhere around the world.
