Only God Knows Why
God saw that she was getting weary; So He did what He thought was best, He came and stood beside her And whispered, “Come and Rest,”
She bade no one a last farewell, No, not even a good-bye, She was gone before we knew it; And only God knows why.
Obituary
I departed this earthly life in the early morning hours of September 14, 2023, at the age of 52. My parents, Nathaniel Smith and Ethel Mary Smith were blessed to receive me as their first-born child in Memphis, Tennessee, August 14, 1971.
I professed hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at The Church of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints. I graduated from Melrose High School in 1989 and briefly pursued higher education at William R. Moore Technical School in art with a concentration in graphic design. My artwork was pure, whimsical, and often comical as I looked to lift others in spirit and produce smiles for them, both inside and out.
I leave to cherish my legacy, my only living grandmother Ms. Annie B. Jamerson, my father, Nathaniel Smith, mother, Ethel Smith, siblings, Elizabeth Smith, Derrick Wilson, Trevathan Smith and Chelsea Nicholson (Tyrell), all of Memphis, Tennessee, niece, Emani Harris, nephews, Khari Applewhite and Rio Nicholson, great niece, Marley Harris, and a host of aunts, uncles, and numerous friends who all loved me to life and I know will cherish my memory.

A Tribute to Our Daughter
God looked around his garden and found an empty place
He then looked down upon the Earth and saw your tired face
He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest
With the help of his angels they flew you to your heavenly place
Gods garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best
He knew you were suffering, he knew you were in pain
He knew that you would never get well on Earth again
He saw the road was getting rough and the hills too hard to climb
He closed your weary eyelids and whispered “Peace be Thine”
It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn’t go alone
For part of us went with you the day God called you home.
Tribute Sister
You can shed tears that she is gone or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back or you can open your eyes and see all she’s left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her and only that she’s gone or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do what she’d want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
-Love you Big Sis
You were an angel here, now you’re an angel up there. No more pain or wonder. I’m grateful for the time I had you. I’m fortunate Marley got to know and love you the way I do. I loved you then, I love you now, I’ll love you forever. See you later, -Baby Fruit and Baby Juice
Auntie
I’d like the memory of you to be a happy one, You left an afterglow of smiles when life is done. Leaving an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun of happy memories that you leave behind when life is done.
-Love you Auntie
