Prado Retiro atesora obras de arte de valor universal: pintura y escultura en los Museos Nacionales del Prado, Reina Sofía, Thyssen-Bornemisza, Artes Decorativas, Naval... A ellos se suman las colecciones de otras instituciones como el Banco de España, el Congreso de los Diputados, CaixaForum, y tantos otros centros que conservan estos tesoros en edificios trazados en el mejor lenguaje de la arquitectura de la Ilustración y de los siglos XIX y XX, preservando este legado como patrimonio excepcional de la ciudad y el disfrute de la ciudadanía.

Prado Retiro is home to cultural assets of universal value: sculpture and painting in the National Museums of El Prado, Reina Sofia, Thyssen- Bornemisza, Decorative Arts and Naval Museums. Together with the collections from other institutions such as the Bank of Spain, the Congress of Deputies, Caixaforum and other centres that display and preserve, their treasures in buildings designed in the best architectural styles of the Enlightenment and the 19th and 20th centuries, preserving this legacy for the enjoyment and benefit of the citizens.

El museo ha tenido ampliaciones sucesivas para aumentar su capacidad de exposición. En el siglo XX se crearon dos pabellones paralelos a la gran galería y se integraron en el conjunto el Claustro de los Jerónimos y el Casón del Buen Retiro. En el siglo XXI se incorporará el Salón de Reinos, único vestigio junto al Casón del antiguo Palacio del Buen Retiro.

The museum has undergone successive extensions to increase its exhibition capacity; in the 20th century, two pavilions were created parallel to the grand gallery and the Cloister of Jeronimos and the Cason del Buen Retiro were integrated into the whole; in the 21st century, the Salón de Reinos, the remains of the former Buen Retiro Palace, will be incorporated into the museum.
