TOP 10 Reasons Your Child Should Play Golf

By Danny Murphy, Junior Golf Leader

At BCC we strive to bring the best instruction to our juniors in more ways than one. We want them to succeed and have fun, but at the same time learn life lessons. Golf gives us a space where we can teach them not only to be a great golfer, but also grow as young men and women in a safe environment. We cannot wait to have some fun this summer with all of the activities we have planned. ◆

10. Get Them Outdoors

Golf gets your child to go outdoors, and away from electronics for a couple of hours. Let them enjoy nature and get them to move around while enjoying a game they can play for life.

9. Stay Fit

Golf is a physical game that requires walking and athletic motions for a couple of hours. It keeps them active and helps to build strength in a developing junior.

8. Fail Fabulously

We all make mistakes. It is a large part of being human. Every shot they will come across on the course will present an opportunity for them to hit a terrible shot. Let your child learn about failure and disappointment in a supportive environment.

7. Achieve Success

New golfers will face many failures when first starting out but eventually they will start to overcome those challenges with success. Golf gives us many chances to overcome disaster and develop a positive attitude.

6. Etiquette

Children are expected to dress and act properly, respect the rules, and behave like young men and women when on the golf course. They learn how to introduce themselves to other players and behave in a proper manner.

5. Valuable Family Time

Being able to spend two to four hours on a golf course with family is precious time. That time together can lead to meaningful conversations and memories for life.

4. Competition

Friendly competition is fun, especially when playing against a close friend or family member. From putting competitions, to match play on the course, there’s a multitude of fun friendly competitions to participate in.

3. Overcoming Obstacles

Golf is a game that loves to give us challenges. From the hazards to the lipped out putts, there will always be challenges on the course. We learn to accept the challenges golf throws at us, just like in life, and adapt so we can succeed.

2. Honesty & Values

Golf teaches everyone to be honest when keeping score and to call yourself on rules violations. Very few sports are self-refereed like golf is, but learning at a young age how important honesty and values are can be extremely beneficial in long-term development.

1. Fun & Friends

Golf is made to be played with friends and family. In the end golf is a sport and sports are meant for us to enjoy and have fun with. Friendships can last a lifetime with golf by their side.
