Commodore’s Comments

I love this time of year because it is the start of the holiday season. Nothing beats the holidays and joy that surrounds this time. As Commodore, one of the most impactful things we do is give out checks for the holiday fund to our Crew. I have been able to witness this over the last two years and see how the Crew appreciates it and the incredible joy it brings. It is an amazing tradition that we have here at our Club. roughout the coming weeks, please make sure to scan the QR code that will be located at various places around the Club and participate by showing your appreciation to the Crew. We are shooting for 100% participation this year from our Members. It’s not about the amount donated, but the e ort in showing our appreciation that matters. Remember, the holiday fund is distributed based on years of employment and is an incredible way to say thank you to the Crew.

e kitchen renovation is in the nal phase and will be open by the second week of November. e before and a er pictures are amazing, but even more thrilling is the fact that Chef Eddie will be rolling out a new menu this month, so be sure to make your reservations.

CRYC kicks o the sailing season with its Annual Regatta and this year is no di erent. Starting the rst weekend in November, our busy regatta season quickly follows. I want to thank our Race Committee volunteers and Race Committee Chairman, Joe Kolisch, for all the hard work and dedication put in that helps further Coral Reef’s reputation as a premiere yacht racing club. Later this month, our former Dockwallopers will be selecting their newest member. is year’s Dockwalloper will be revealed and celebrated on November 15th. is award recognizes a Member or Member’s spouse whose leadership and commitment to amateur yacht racing, sailing in the bay or ocean, and the promotion of the sport, merits special recognition. Please come out and celebrate this newest Dockwalloper.

is month also kicks o our annual toy drive with the United States Marines, Toys for Tots/Mack Cycle collection that is organized by our very own Brett Ury. He puts a lot of e ort into this event, and it is such an incredible thing to do. is has become an amazing tradition here at the Club, and every year we seem to outdo the previous year. I am sure this year will be no di erent. It might have something to do with the free drink ticket you get with every toy brought in, but I’m not sure….ha ha ha. We also hold an amazing luncheon on Veteran’s Day to honor all those members of the armed service who have made so many sacrices for this amazing country. An event not to be missed, especially leading into the holidays, is the Ladies Evening event on the 20th that will feature H&H Jewels showing o all of their amazing and “sparkling” items. My wife, Cristina, already has this day marked in the calendar! What a busy month we have ahead of us. An important item to mention is that on November 13th, we will be holding our second Special Member’s meeting to go over many of the things we discussed at our last meeting back in June. During this meeting, we will have our auditing rm, RSM, here to present their annual comparative report on Florida Yacht Clubs. is is a great report to see how we compare to other similar clubs. A little hint and answer to the test question, we exceed our comparable clubs in all the major categories. During this meeting, we will go over the up-to-date nancials of the Club including many of the new initiatives we will be implementing in our continued e orts to improve the Club we all call our second home.

Wishing everyone an amazing and joyous holiday season and, as always, Cristina and I hope to see you all at the Club soon.

On the Cover

As the holiday season approaches, it is a wonderful time to reflect on the hard work and dedication of our Crew. Throughout the year, they have consistently gone above and beyond to ensure that each of us enjoys an exceptional experience at the club. Whether it is maintaining our beautiful grounds, serving food and drinks with a smile, or working long hours to make sure everything runs smoothly, our Crew has shown unwavering commitment.

This is also the time when we, as a community, have the opportunity to show our appreciation by contributing to the Crew’s Holiday Bonus Fund. These contributions are the primary way we are able to provide a meaningful endof-the-year bonus, recognizing their extraordinary efforts and helping to make their holidays as bright as they have made ours. I am hoping that we as a Club can reach a goal of 100% participation. More important than the amount is that we show the Crew how we really appreciate everything that they do for us.

Star Midwinter Racing season is upon us. On this month's cover, we have star class boats taking advantage of a great breeze on Biscayne Bay.

I invite you to make your contribution and show your gratitude for their outstanding service. You can use the QR code below or contact the administrative office at (305) 858-1733 ext. 204 for assistance. It is important to note that the holiday bonuses are distributed based on each Crew member's years of service at the Club, and our Club Manager does not benefit from these contributions. Last year, members gave an average of $335 for a total holiday fund of $187,000.

Thank you for your continued support and generosity. Let’s make this holiday season a special one for the entire Coral Reef family.

arm regards,

Joan Mueller - A Star CRYC Member

In 1971, Joan Mueller created the Homecoming Cup to give CRYC college students a chance to compete among friends during the year-end holidays. Qualifying races were sailed in Sun sh with the championship held in Stars hosted by the local eet. Stephen Sprague, with Frank Zagarino as crew, were the inaugural Homecoming Cup winners. For the Homecoming Cup, she used the silver trophy which her grandfather won sailing in 1902. Joan donated the trophy to PC Bill Smoak for him to use in the new CRYC Youth Regatta called the Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta. It has been the top OBIYR trophy ever since. Joan was also a co-founder of CRYC Ladies Sailing at the Club, along with Francis Virgin, which stimulated access and participation for women to sail and race Bullseyes at the Club on a regular basis. Joan is now 100 years "young." We still see her frequently at the Club when her son Fritz brings her for lunch and to the annual Veteran’s Day luncheon. You can recognize her by her smile and lovely laugh. We are so lucky to have her as a Member.

CRYC Sailors Shine at S.E. Dinghy Championship

We want to extend a heartfelt congratulations to our incredible Green Fleet Team for their outstanding performance at the 52nd Southeast Dinghy Championship, which took place at Key Biscayne Yacht Club September 27-29. A er two days of racing, our team’s performance was nothing short of amazing. is success was the result of a combination of factors including a well-executed game plan, smart strategies, and the hard work of all our sailors who attended the event. Sailing in light winds is never easy, and it requires a great deal of patience, technique, and concentration. It’s also important to identify opportunities on the water by distinguishing between noise and signals. Once again, congratulations to all our sailors and a big thank you to the parents for your continued support of our team. Your dedication plays a huge role in making these achievements possible.
