GOT LIFE School Supply Festival Picture Review

Skip the Life Classes The greatest secret to discovering who you are, what your life goals should be, or what’s inside of you is found when we become intimate with God and learn who He is.

You don’t need Opera or a Life Class to discover the hidden truths of life. In fact, many of these life coaches are still searching themselves.

But as God spoke in Jeremiah, He knows the plans for our life. He knows our purpose.

So instead of wasting time to hear what someone think you should be doing with your life or how to find out what you should be doing, have a little talk with Jesus.

OUTREACH MINISTRY SPONSORED SCHOOL FESTIVAL

On Saturday, August 10 the Outreach ministry held their first School Supply Festival With the support of many people, New Life Temple was able to give supply bags to several families and Frost Elementary School.

The two hour festival included different activities such as face painting, live music !

performances and free refreshment for those who came out.

During the time of special prayer, many of the visitors came up for personal prayer.

The supply drive was about meeting the need of people both naturally and spiritually.

THE PROMISES OF GOD Bishop Brenda K. Perry, Sr. Pastor of NLTC

For all the promises of God in Him is “Yes”, and in Him “Amen”, to the glory of God through us. (1 Cor. 1:20, NKJV).

A “promise” is primarily a legal term denoting a summons, or promise undertaking to do or give something. Jack W. Hayford’s Bible Handbook says “both a promise and the thing promise, an announcement with the special sense of promise, pledge, and offer”. Promise (epangelia in Greek) tells what the promise from God is and then gives the assurance that the thing promised will be done.

Like a story that was told of a person who opened their Bible haphazard to the passage of scripture where Judas hanged himself. They closed the Bible and opened it again haphazardly.

This time it read, “Go and do likewise”. What am I saying? You cannot open and close, name and claim God’s promise.

The Bible is housed with promises from Genesis to Revelation. This is why it is so important that when reading the Word of God we stop and mediate on it. Good example, reading Psalm 23 you can see there are some promises in this passage of scriptures. In verse 6, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” In Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on God”. To have goodness and mercy follow us, we must walk upright.

When you look at salvation, God kept has Word from Genesis 3:15. In order to attain salvation you must believe and have faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Savior. We carry out the plan through repentance, baptism, and in the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

His Word tells me that He chasten those He love; if I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear; I will not forgive you of your wrong or sins, if you do not forgive others there wrong. The question is, are these promises?

In 1997, fresh after my divorce, my exhusband came to my job for some reason that I can't remember. I assumed that I introduced him properly to my coworker, as my children's father. But, after he walked away, she joked, "So dat's yo' baby's daddy!" Reality hit me right then, a future of baby daddy momma drama! Lord Jesus, help me! And, He did.

Through the years since then, the Lord patiently, persistently, lovingly purged, and refined me to a co-existing peaceful, friendly, relationship with my ex. Though, it didn't seem that way to me at the time. Nor, did I think that He was on my side, but He was. It was evident of His great love and mercy when my ex invited me to his Father’s Day celebration this past June, along with my mother, our daughter, son, and our son’s family. And, He did!

How did I change from a bitter, angry, resentful, and very unhappy person? It was a battle that I fortunately lost. The fight

In Psalms 139 David states his awe of God's handiwork. He marvels at how he has been created in his mother's womb.

What does this mean for how we are to perceive others? Regardless of disability, belief, skin color or ethnic group, the Lord has been at work in each of our "creations" in the womb. He has uniquely formed us, placed us all over this city and has given us spiritual gifts in order to be a part of kingdom building. God made me who I am for the sake of the kingdom.

In my prayer time I told God that I would strive to incorporate Him into everything that I do.

Now when I have a conversations with peers, I make sure to tell them something worthwhile, andI have found that many of them receive it. However, I am not ignorant to the fact that there will be some who turn a deaf ear, but that won’t discourage me from telling my story, and how we all should strive to do better.

My godfather, Pastor Wilton J. Red, says it the best, “If you know better, do better.”

I am extremely blessed to have the family and friends that I have.

I love everyone that has imparted into my life, even if it was something small, because sometimes those are the most significant. Use everyday to your advantage, and spread some of the light you have, after all that’s what it’s for.

When I was a young child I was visiting a fellows church member’s home. Not all to excited about the food that was served to me I messed over it and complained about having to eat it.

The lady of the house told me that there were children in other countries who were hungry and would love to have my food. My response, “They can have it.”

We laugh about it now. But in retrospect I realize that like so many adults, I had made a RWP out of nothing when there were people who really did have problems. However, I was too selfish to see that instead of looking at my problem - being served food I didn’t like- I should be looking at my blessing.

• Instead of complaining about having to get up so early to go to work, why not thank God for the job you do have.

• Instead of complaining that someone ate the last slice of bread, be thankful that there is something else for you to eat or that you can afford to buy another loaf.

• Instead of complaining about having to walk up 3 flights of stairs because the elevator is being repaired thank God that you can still walk.

We will always have RWPs in our life, but as the late Bishop Walter Hawkins said “Be grateful, because there’s someone else who’s worst off than you.”

Write down your RWP, have a good laugh...then thank God, because it could be worst.
