The Pain that Makes Love LOVE

Some women dream of giving birth, despite all of the horror stories of the hours of pain they must suffer in order to give life.

With Easter fresh on my mind and Mother’s Day just a few days away, I can’t help but think about two words, pain and love.

And as children grow, they disappoint and hurt the one who gave them life. But momma keeps on loving.

She smiles when the little one does something good.

They are words that seem to sit at opposite ends of the spectrum. But in most instances, they sit right next to each other.

You may have heard people say, “love is not supposed to hurt!”

Some women will repeat this process several times, and each time they smile begotten son...that the world through him with love in their heart, despite the pain that was. might be saved”. (John 3:16-17)

This first Beatitude is foundational, describing a fundamental trait that is found in every regenerated soul. Blessed are the “poor in spirit.” What is poverty of spirit? It is opposite that of a haughty, self-assertive, and self-sufficient being which the world gives much praise to. It is the very reverse of that independent and defiant attitude that refuses to bow to God. Exodus 5: 2 says “Pharaoh said “Who is the Lord, that I should obey His

PROCESS. There are people who think much about the PROCESS. One definition of process is a natural phenomenon marked by gradual changes that lead toward a particular result; the process of growth. When we consider the spiritual process, we are talking about a natural and spiritual phenomenon or experience with gradual changes, which leads to a particular spiritual result. "All beginnings are hard ". Salvation is no different in the beginning than trying to quit smoking after years of doing something that has become part of your daily regimen. After years of living a life of sin, to change to a life of sanctification and righteousness is difficult in the beginning. We want to see just what that process is in the Bible, dealing with our salvation.

Let’s begin with repentance. The "popular delusion" people have today about salvation is, "I can repent whenever I so desire. Any old time I want to, I can repent."

But God doesn't say that. CAN you repent any old time you want to? The Bible does not say so. The Bible teaches that repentance is a GIFT (Hebrews 6:1-6). Repentance is not an ugly word, but it is a positive evaluation that I make so that I can gain God's plan for my life.

Many people have misconceptions of what repentance is. There are three principles of repentance. The first two are a comparison between worldly repentance and true godly repentance. The third is how repentance applies to our lifestyle so that we walk in hope, and the joy of knowing God on a personal intimate level. (Read Matthew 27:1-5) Continue on page 4

The next step in the salvation process is baptism. There are two extreme ways that people have of looking at baptism.

There is one group that says baptism is necessary to go to heaven, therefore it is a big deal. There is another group that says baptism is unnecessary to go heaven, therefore it is not a big deal. Baptism is one of the most important steps on the Christian ladder. It is one of the most important, meaningful and exciting experiences of the Christian life.

One of the most common among Christian people is that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is an experience which is subsequent to salvation; that it is an experience to be sought for, prayed for, tarried for and that the evidence of having received the baptism of the Holy Spirit is speaking in another language or speaking in tongues.

Each month I try to bring a little humor to the newsletter in my quirky sidestep article.

Sometimes I share my obsession for all things techie, other times I try to share those “moments” with you. But all in all, I try to take those every day realities and point our minds towards spiritual actualities.

However, this time I’m just going to talk. I just asked myself, “about what?” LOL! Yes, I do have these rather conversational moments with myself. I’ve been told by a friend that I should never share that would with the world. Well, I guess I just did.

My brain is always “moving”, of course not figuratively or else I would be in serious trouble. So I’m forced to entertain the

Thus there is a conversation that evolves.

At this moment there are so many thoughts, some are brilliant, and some are just clashing scenarios of what lies ahead of me for the next five weeks.

Unfortunately, I am still in the planning stage of a trip that I leave for in a week. I’ve not made one hotel reservation, no solid schedule - though all friends and ministries have been contacted.

While the first week has been confirmed, including the football match following Sunday service. Yes! Yes! I’m feeling the FIFA beat. I’m still trying to determine what happens after the 3 May. I guess I’m starting to act like a native of the visiting country.

Ok, I can’t help it. But what would happen if we lived our entire spiritual life like this? We have loads of thoughts and ideas of how Christians should live, act and what we should do. But we take our time to get those things done. Even though we know they are needed.

By the way, did I mention, I know where I’m going to spend my “rest period” and what days I’m going to go?

But I have not decide how to get there or where to stay.

Believe it or not, many Christians operate the same way.

No wonder we have so many burn outs in the church. And worst, no wonder we seldom enjoy working in the Kingdom of God. We have great thoughts. We can tell others how to “do” ministry. We are genius at that. But when it comes time to serve, we can’t seem to get ourself together to work with others.

We wait until the last minuet to take care of our personal needs, and use it as excuses to fulfill our duty to the spiritual needs.

Remember this, Jesus didn’t ask us to serve. He commanded us to serve.

Ok, time to finalize the order of this trip before take off. SMH!

I love you, all church family and friends that have been by my side consistently praying and encouraging. I am soon to be a ‘Bear’ at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. I will be majoring in Psychology and there's no doubt about. But most of all, I want to give total credit to God and what He has done in my life and what He is still doing. I am surely thankful for all of the various talents I have been blessed with. Because of New Life Temple Church, and all of the great leadership that has been all of my eighteen years, I am able to help and guide other students in my senior class.

She held the executive board position of social chair for the past two years. She is a member of the Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program since her first year. She has also held multiple executive board positions including Junior liaison, 2009 and social chair , 2010.

become Christians. This is more stress than most of us feel we can, or should carry.

And still another reason why we shy away from “evangelism” is that we often feel we must be deep thinking theologians. How can we evangelize when we do not have a Ph.D. in theology? Or when we don’t know much about the bible? What if we can’t explain church doctrine? WOW! This is deep.

I once read a story about a football game that was held on the home field. The home team was being smeared by the visiting team.

Someone on the sideline kept yelling, “Give the ball to Calhoun! Give the ball to Calhoun!” They tried another play, and again the home team was smashed to the ground, losing valuable yardage. Again came the cry, “Give the ball to Calhoun!” After this happened two or three times more, the familiar cry rang out again, “Give the ball to Calhoun!” Then a tall man rose up from the middle of the huddle and responded, “Calhoun don’t want the ball!” I am afraid this is true for many Christians today. They do not want to carry the ball of evangelism.

Or maybe it is as simple as the fact of you not liking to knock on the doors of the homes of strangers, or passing out tracts to strangers.

Then there is the issue of feeling inadequate in training, or feeling that this is the job of the preacher and mission department.

Well, I want to suggest something that may come as a relief to many, and that is to drop the word evangelism altogether. Forget about “evangelism” and think “INVITE.” We have a loving Savior. We have an anointed Pastor. We have a wonderful church family.

We have great things happening. We have the answer that will determine where they will spend eternity. Forget about evangelism.

Think INVITE. We should be inviting people to come to church.

For some reason, we don’t like to do “evangelism”. Perhaps it is due to our varied concepts of who is actually to share the gospel. We tend to think that evangelist are great and powerful people, well loved people.

They are famous people. Of course, we don’t fit that mold.

I like the idea of being invited to something. An invitation to a movie, or to dinner, or to a special event. We all know how to invite someone to something. So that you do not think I have forsaken scriptural examples, let’s take a lesson from John 4:6John 4:43.

Some of us do not want to do the work of evangelism because we feel it is a burden and a hugh responsibility of convincing people to

ever did. Could this be the Christ?” She is not holding up a sign nor passing out tracts.

She is not going to someone and challenging his or her lifestyle. She is simply saying “come”. “Come.” This is an invitation.

“Come and see this man….”

This woman is not powerful in her position in her community. In fact, she is powerless. She is not some learned scholar from Jacob’s Well University. And yet, she brings others to Christ. She does not try to debate the people, or lay out complicated lectures or thesis. She is not a highly trained theologian. All she does is to invite people to check this man out. Scripture says if we lift Him up, He will draw.

Invite them to Sunday worship. Invite them to bible study. Invite them to Sunday school. Invite them to do a home bible study.

Invite them. Invite them.

May 30th has been spotlighted as Each One, Reach One, and Bring One Sunday. The Outreach ministry is asking that each member of NLTC began to pray that God will burden you with one lost soul. When He does, diligently pray for that person. Be-friend that person. And most important, INVITE that person to church on May 30th. If you must, pick that person up, and bring them to church with you. Take them to lunch afterwards, or out for a cup of coffee or soda. All we have to do is INVITE. The Holy Spirit does the rest.
