Christmas seems like it just happened, yet it seems so far in the future. It’s the one time of the year when we spend some time talking about Jesus, the Christ.

But what about the rest of the time?

What about during the week?

We spend weeks, starting with Black Friday, celebrating and buying things for the Christmas Season. But how much is really spent celebrating Jesus? About as much as we spend each day or week of our lives celebrating Him. April

We come to His house to show off our looks, our goodness, our....But how much of us will we loose to Him in celebration of His love and favor towards us?

Celebrating Him Instead of You We have arrived at the end of the first half of the new year. I’m sure many of us have spent around a few times wondering where the other five months went so fast.

You see often times we spend more time celebrating us, than we do Jesus. We will spend $200 on an outfit for church, but give God $25 in the offering. We will spend all Saturday having fun, instead of preparing our hearts to be open to Him on the coming day. We will take hours getting ready (yes men do it too) but only want to give Him 35 minuets of mediocre praise. Worship is an extra expense we have to spiritually budget for. And we will lend the speaker 30minuets, 45 if they are really good according to our opinion.

But when do we really celebrate Jesus?

People will joke all week about stuff that should have never even entered their mind, but will collect dust on a pew while looking like someone has deprived them of their free time.

I have to wonder if God is asking, “when will you ever celebrate me?”

He gives us 7 days a week, with 24 hours in each of them. How many of them will we spend for the next 6 months celebrating Him? Don’t let celebrating Christ be confined to Christmas or Sundays.

I’m sure I say this every year, but I really can’t believe that we are in the last month of the first half of the year. These days time really seems to fly by. And I’m sure we should thank God for that!

As you and I reflect over the last five months, what have we accomplished? What did we do with our time? And how much of that did we spend for God? If most of us are honest, we may ask for a “do over” instead of having to answer those questions.

There are two things that God has left, or placed upon this earth, for us to live successfully by. They are His Word and His Spirit (Holy Spirit). Yes, I thank Him so much for my salvation that allows me to have the Word of Life, and the gift of the Holy Spirit reside in me.

However, instead of seeing the negative in that, how about really taking a look over the past five months and answering those questions. I’m sure, you will have some not so good answers, but I think you may have some accomplishments as well.

From the Passover to Pentecost in the Old Testament, and even in the New Testament, it was important to the Jewish people to continue special events of tradition. These times included festivals and celebrations and So we start from the accomplishments, offerings. When the children of Israel something to encourage us, then we move on left Egypt, after the first Passover to to our wasted time and ask how can we turn begin their journey into the that around over the next six months? I really want to encourage each of us, not to Leviticus 23:16 reads, “You shall give up and do nothing in hopes of doing better in 2012. After all that’s still six months count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall away. But let’s strive to do just a little bit more during the rest of the year. Make time to enjoy family and friends; establish quality “me” time; enjoy a book or take a day trip; have coffee or tea with a new member; find an area of the church that could use a moment of your precious gift, and while stuck in traffic how about giving that time to God instead of fussing at the car in front of you.

What about Daddy? A Father’s Day Thought Eph. 4:6

Now that Mother’s day has come and gone. We want to focus on Father’s Day, a day which is not as highly celebrated as Mother’s day, but equally as important. What about daddy?

I want to focus on the positive aspects of fatherhood and being a father because, believe it or not, we do exist.

The “New Endangered Species”, that’s what we dads are predicted to become. In other words, most men really want to be good dads more than ever, but they aren’t changing much.

When the good news is combined with the bad, it seems that fatherhood in the United States is poised for either a great awakening or a gory collapse. What do you think Dads?

We’re either headed toward a spiritual stirring, or we’re looking at becoming an “endangered species”. While most Americans have not bought into the “daddies are dinosaurs” rhetoric, I think there is a growing ambivalence about the importance of fathers in our culture.

Millions of unwanted babies are aborted each year. Children have become a disposable commodity in our society today, but those of us who are fathers, or stepfathers, father figures, uncles, or grandfathers, who continue on page 4

Pentecost from page 2

From the time Israel left Egypt, and arrived at Mount Sinai to receive the Ten Commandment, and the Law that would govern them and their relationship with God, there were some things they must remember to do throughout generations to come.

As we read in the New Testament, we see the practices of these festivals and offerings. Passover continued to be a part of their lives. Jesus even came to fulfill and live by the Law. Jesus came to be the redeemer for Israel, and even us today. Jesus became the Lamb for the Passover.

After He conquered death, hell, and the grave, He fellowshipped with the disciples, and others for 40 days.

When He ascended He told them to go and tarry, or wait, on the promise that the Father had promised. Do remember that Jesus stayed in the grave three day, and He rose on the day of First Fruit offering.

Jeremiah 31:33 states, “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds”.

This constituted a dual celebration: the giving of the Ten Commandments at Sinai, and the event at Pentecost when God gave his Holy Spirit.

Having God’s Word in our heart helps us to defeat the enemy, and bring us into proper relationship with

the Father, and Lord our Savior. In Hebrews 4:12 we read, “for the word of God is living or quick, and powerful and shaper than any twoedged sword…” His Word sanctifies us. It is our road map to our heavenly home. The Bible tells us when Jesus left that He would send the Comforter, Teacher, Guide, and our Helper.

Romans 8:26 said “likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered.”

standard. Just as it was revolutionary for dads to lovingly lead their kids in the first century, faithful fathers today who do not exasperate their kids are counter-cultural. The Greek word translated “exasperate” means “to rouse to anger” or “to enrage.” Our kids are not property to own, but image bearers of God who need to be managed and trained. Dads, we are called to provide a proper nurturing environment where our kids can grow up to love and serve Christ.

If you want the Holy Ghost or God’s Spirit, inside helping and directing your life, then ask. He gives to those that will obey and believe Him. Let no one tell you that the experience that occurred on the Day of Pentecost does not exist. God is the same yesterday, today and forever.

The Apostles, and those in the book of Acts, were not the only ones to receive the promise. It was to as many as the Lord our God should call. If He calls you to repentance, then He called you to receive His Spirit. His Word and Spirit gives us power to overcome the evil one.

I can think of some common ways that fathers can exasperate their children: 1. Overprotection.

The church at Corinth had previously indicated they would send money to help the church at Jerusalem which was very poor by now. But the money had not been forthcoming. So Paul writes to remind them of their obligation.

Instead of starting with a request for money, Paul begins with an example of sacrificial giving. Paul seeks to motivate the Corinthians by making reference to a longstanding political competitor, Macedonia. But now the Macedonians are put forward as a competitor of a different sort.

These churches were experiencing the most severe trial. The Macedonian churches are a testimony that it is possible not merely to experience joy but to have it "overflow" in the midst of trials. Even more, just as persecution did not take away from their joyfulness, neither did poverty diminish their ability to be generous.

Please, don’t miss what Paul’s aim was. Paul’s aim was to motivate by comparing attitudes, not dollar amounts. It is the Macedonians' joyful, willing and earnest attitude that is set before the Corinthians, not the size of their contribution.

—Bring them up to see everything in relation to the victory of God. Do whatever it takes to make all of life Godsaturated for your kids.

—Bring them up to know that the path of sin is a dead end street because righteousness will prevail in the end.

This is a result of being a loving and caring father. This is my hope for all father’s whose desire is to be the type of father the Lord God has called us to be.

BoY One of my roommates posted a comment on my Facebook page saying that I had left the remote to my television I brought to Baylor.

That was the very remote I was searching and scrambling for when my mom asked me where it was. He catches me again on Facebook, but this time through Facebook chat and asked me where I lived because he was going to drop it off to me at home. At first, a bit confused, I wondered was he seriously considering driving to my house just to drop off a remote. He calls me the next day and asked what color was my house because he was on my street. I unlock my door, unchain the front gate, and noticed this Toyota pulled into the driveway. Lo and behold, there was my roommate getting out his truck to hand me the remote.

Despite the rumors or the false labels, let’s get this straight. I, Mel, am

not a GEEK! Ok with that out of the way...every year I get excited about the next tech convention being held too far away and too costly and too important for me to attend. But thanks to modern technology, the very stuff they talk about, I get to stay in the know by some form of social networking or live stream. I mean who waits for the news media to feel us in these days?

For me these conferences are like the best reality show or soap opera. I mean they leave me foaming at the mouth for the latest toy, unless it’s an iPhony.

The party kicks off with my favorite WES and continues on to the WWDC. Ask some geek near you and they can feel you in on the what’s what.

But at the start of summer each year Apple kicks off their big shindig (I miss Mac World...man) of surprises. And people come from all over the world and pack the house out. Everyone waits with supper hyper anticipation for what Steve Jobs will reveal behind Apples big black curtain of secrecy, holding back this years creative genius designs developed by the enormous brains at Apple. What a mouth full!

They wait! And they Wait! AND THEY WAIT! And finally...

Dressed in the same black mock turtleneck and slightly faded jeans, the god of Geekdom emerges to the applause of his fanatical worshipers. Too great to bow, he smiles with huge delight...then at April

And then, like the year before, he gives his nasty spill of Apple existing as the ultimate supreme being of the technology world, and everyone else being the demons who try to deceive us simpletons into believing that they can elevate themselves above the majestic Apple.

And every year we buy the lie. Ok, it’s a half truth...same difference.

But this year, being wiser now, I listened with more insightful ears as Jobs gave his tirade of, “Apple has done what no one else is doing...has done...can do”.

And I realized something. While Apple has had ideas that no one else had, many of the things Apple brags about someone else already had, did or is doingApple just came late to the party.

Why you nasty little bitten into piece of fruit...you are just a worm aren’t you!

Yep, the secret is out. Most of the time Apple does not create things or hit first with the idea. Nope, they are often great at perfecting what others have already done.

So why not just say that Steve?

Uh, why not?

You came to the game late, and now you hate to admit you are great at perfecting what’s already in play.

O wait! You and I do that too.

Have you ever been in a meeting and you or someone else is saying something and when finished another person who starts off with, “well, I disagree...: or “I think a better way is...” precedes to say the exact

same same thing that was just said. To make it worst, people will agree with them like a great revelation has just been reveled.

You want to stop them and say, “if you were not in such a need to just say something you would have heard that what you just said, was already stated.”

Of course we never hear when we do it.

Never us! LOL! For some reason, as humans we like, no we need to take the credit sometimes for things that already are. Now, I’m sure as you’re reading this you can in no way relate to this part, but only the part that deals with others.

But as I watched and listened to the 3 main speakers at WWDC, I couldn’t help but laugh. While Apple has developed some one of a kind phenomenal stuff, they actually had other brilliant geeks buying into this “we are the world of technology” fluff.

Instead of giving credit to where it was due, and stating “but we have managed to make it 100% better”, they just went with the half truth.

Many of us may find ourselves in that same seat. If we are not the one fluffing up our abilities, then we may be the one applauding the “fluffer”.

If I were to get real spiritual with this, it would be this simple thing. 1.

Know what God has created you to do. Give Him created for the gift He gave you. 2.

Daily, with His help, perfect the gift that He has lent to you. 3. Remember, there are others who can teach you something...something that may help you to better what God has given you. 4. Give them credit for their part in the growth of your purpose 5. No matter how great you are, you still AIN’T all that!
