Rigor Focuses Our Compassion

Catalytic Capital Project Redwood’s early-stage support enables grantees to access higher levels of funding.

Educate! educates young Ugandans to become entrepreneurs and lead business teams. Project Redwood grants were used to develop and support a national entrepreneurship program.

Following Project Redwood support, Educate! received the $100,000 Jacobs Award for Social Engagement. Educate!’s founder has also recently won the Rybakov Prize.

• All projects are sponsored by a GSB alum and undergo a thorough review.

• Each project is evaluated based on its: • Achievability and sustainability • Magnitude of expected impact • Effective use of resources • Entrepreneurial approach

MyAgro uses mobile technology to enable subsistence farmers to save, invest and produce higher yields in Mali and Senegal. Project Redwood grants were used to provide additional mobile phones and expand operations into Senegal. Two years after becoming a Project Redwood grantee, MyAgro was a winner of a $1,250,000 Skoll Award.

Our Organizational Support Enhances Our Grants Project Redwood’s GSB alums also provide counsel and connections.

Top Left: Child Aid trains teachers to improve literacy among indigenous Guatemalans. GSB alum and sponsor Charlie Baum provided organizational development consulting, so that Child Aid is now partnering with the Guatemalan Ministry of Education.

Bottom Left: Development In Gardening (D.I.G.) improves nutrition for vulnerable communities via gardening education. Through GSB alum Bill Westwood’s organizational recommendations, D.I.G has expanded into many additional countries and now share their training materials and experience with other Project Redwood grantees.

Every year, we receive many more compelling applications from our fellow GSB alums than we have dollars to support. Mindful of the imperative to expand equity for underserved minorities in the US, we are considering more US-based projects than before. We have built a powerful, scalable grantmaking infrastructure; the only constraint on our work is dollars.
