SAFETY COVER CHEAT SHEET
Safety
IMPORTANT:
Safety covers provide a virtually impenetrable shield against wandering children and pets. However, to reduce the risk of injury:
NEVER permit children to use this product unless they are closely supervised at all times.
**Safety covers provide a virtually impenetrable shield against wandering children and pets. However, to reduce the risk of injury, NEVER permit children to use this product unless they are closely supervised at all times. Water on top of the cover is the same as NO COVER AT ALL.
A child can drown on top of the cover. Stepping on part of the cover will create a low area towards which water will flow. Hence, 1/2" of water will become a puddle 4 to 6 inches deep. Aside from the safety hazard of standing water on the cover, the water is very heavy which creates strain on the cover fabric, tracks and pulleys. (1" water depth on a 20 x 40' pool cover weighs 2 tons)
Rainwater / Snow
COVER PUMP
An automatic self-starting pump has been supplied with your cover in order to conform to ASTM F134-91 standards. The intent of this standard is to require a means of removing water from the top of pool covers during the owner's absence, especially during wet seasons. Removing water from the cover with these pumps may take several hours. If you are going to be absent from your pool, it is advised that you arrange for someone to periodically check the cover surface for water or snow and remove it if needed. If you are using your cover pump, have that person make sure that it is working properly.
**If you have any more than 1" of water on top of your pool cover, the cover pump is needed.**
Do's & Don't
DO
●Keep pool covered when not in use
●Remove surface water immediately
●Maintain correct water level
●Clean & maintain tracks at all times
●Wash & maintain cover fabric
●Adjust skew
●Inspect fabric for pliability and integrity of mesh scrim
●Remove excessive bird droppings
●Clean and maintain correct water chemistry
●For Safety remove key from switch after use
●Spray down mechanism, rope reels and end castings w/ fresh water every month
DON'T
●Walk on cover unnecessarily
●Operate cover while pool is in use
●Operate in very cold/icy conditions
●Leave cover partially open
●Hold key in open/closed position if cover is stuck
●Use liquid or acid to clean fabric material
●Close cover after "shock dosing" with Chlorine
●Let animals or pets on cover
●Leave maintenance equipment /toys on cover
●Leave key in key switch at all times
CHEMICALS
It is important to maintain a proper chemical balance ideally pH 7.2 / Chlorine 2-3 ppm. NEVER immediately cover your pool after a Shock treatment with a CHLORINE based product as this will have severe adverse effects on the cover fabric, wait until the chlorine level is 5ppm or less.
*Pool water chemistry will seriously affect your cover fabric and is not covered under warranty.
MAINTENANCE
We offer the finest safety covers available in the industry and, if used and maintained properly, your pool cover can provide peace of mind and make pool opening and closing more accessible and cost-effective. To ensure your pool cover is truly a Safety cover, that it withstands the elements and the test of time, follow these best practices for pool cover safety and maintenance.
• Sweep off dirt and debris regularly. Keep your cover free from dirt and debris that can easily collect on top of the cover, in the track, or the auto cover housing.
• Maintain and repair your sliders and pulleys, where necessary. Even though automatic pool covers are the most reliable on the market, they still require care and maintenance to function well into the future. The pulleys and sliders used to expand and retract your pool’s cover automatically will experience wear and tear over time, so be sure to change these parts out regularly.
• Replace fabric as needed. A pool cover that does not protect your pool is useless, which is why it is essential to practice routine maintenance and periodic inspections of your pool cover. Pool chemicals, temperature variations, ultraviolet light, and general wear and tear can break down the pool cover fabric over time. Every month inspect your pool cover for any cracks, peeling, or weak spots. This can help keep a small problem from turning into a big one.
• Cleaning your pool is just as important as regular preventative maintenance. You should wash your cover every 3 to 6 months with mild dishwashing soap and a soft mop to remove the chlorine that builds up from the cover’s continuous opening and closing.
• In addition to the pool cover surface, you also need to care for and clean the tracks. You can do this by retracting the pool cover and cleaning the cover track rope and slider channel. The best way to clean the tracks and pulley housing is with the high-pressure nozzle from a garden hose, efficiently removing built-up dirt and debris. Repeat as often as necessary to keep the tracks clean but at a minimum, repeat this process every 1 to 2 months.
Monthly Maintenance
Spray fresh water on the ends of the cover roll-up drum, and rope take-up reels.
1.Hose out tracks and then spray silicone in the track (water based silicone only, such as LPS).
2.Check drainage on cover recess. (for recessed systems)
3.Check skew adjustment.
KEEP IT COVERED
Bi-Annually Maintenance
Clean out cover recess Spring and Autumn.
1.Check wear on sliders, guides and pulleys.
2.Check hydraulic fluid level
3.Clean cover with mild dish soap
4.Check skew adjustment.
5.Check fabric for pliability and integrity of reinforced mesh scrim.
6.Check drainage in cover recess.
Annual Maintenance
1.Replace sliders and guides (normal wear) if necessary.
2.Clean out cover recess.
3.Check skew adjustment.
4.Check fabric for pliability and integrity of reinforced mesh scrim.
5.Check drainage in cover recess.
2 - 3 Year Maintenance: Replace all pulleys.
Your cover doesn't only provide safety it also provides many energy saving benefits during the summer and winter months by conserving water and reducing the amount of make-up water needed by 30-50%. It can also reduce chemical consumption by 35-60%, and cut cleaning time by keeping dirt and other debris out of the water.
