Staying fit in Winter
As the weather outside becomes unpredictable, it can be difficult to stay motivated to maintain an exercise regime. The Leavenworth Parks and Recreation Department is encouraging Leavenworth residents to take part in the Governor’s Council on Fitness, “Get Active Kansas,” by participating in the department runs, fitness classes and indoor fitness facilities at the Riverfront Community Center. The Parks and Recreation Department has several opportunities to help citizens keep on track with fitness this winter: q Basic Dance Classes Wednesday nights at the community center (p. 3) q CrossFit strength training (p. 3) q Outdoor paved trails (p. 5) q Lap swim (p. 6) q Learn-to-Swim classes (p. 7) q Adult Co-Ed Volleyball (p. 8) The “Indoor Ironman” will take place in February. Participants will attempt to meet the goal of swimming 2.4 miles, bicycling 112 miles and running 26.2 miles throughout the month. (p. 10)
