The Queen’s Coronation, 1953

Some members of Meldreth Local History Group have been researching the celebrations that were held in the village to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The photographs on the right were supplied by Joan Fallon who explained that the children of the village all dressed up in fancy dress. Some are pictured here on the back of lorries which went along the High Street. Those pictured include Joan Rayner, Roger Winter, Janice Thurley, Brian Pepper and Roger Pepper. The top photograph was taken outside the British Queen and the other on the Primary School playing field. If you can name any of the children please contact us at info@meldrethhistory.org.uk. We would also like to hear from you if you have any more photographs or memories to share of the coronation celebrations.
