We offer boys in Years 7-12 educational excellence in a community that cares for every student.

“Boarders are a special part of the Melbourne Grammar School community – a community that is built on mutual respect and genuine connection.
We look to our School values to inform everything we do. These inform our approach to students’ health, mental well-being and, of course, their academic progress.
Whether parents live just a few hours away or on the other side of the world, our staff are committed to ensuring every student has the support and guidance they need to thrive.”
Belinda Annan Director of Boarding

James Harrod Head of Perry House
Years 7–12

Mark Brady Head of School House
Years 7–12

Our excellent academic results place us comfortably amongst the top schools in Australia, which means our graduates study at some of the most prestigious universities in the country, and worldwide. These include:

The sense of connection across our boarding community includes strong partnerships between school and home. This link is central to our pastoral care and to our students’ success.
We have multiple structures in place to keep parents up to date about their son’s academic progress and overall well-being, including:
• Tutors proactively keeping parents informed.
• Time each day to call home.
• A weekly parent bulletin and regular email updates.
• The Boarder Parents Network, connecting boarding parents, students and staff.
I speak with my parents every night for about half an hour. We talk about my day and what’s happening at home. I really like doing that.”
Athin, Year 10

Central Melbourne is on your doorstep – the MCG, AAMI Park, and everything else the city has to offer.
Our Boarding Tutors are also teachers at the School and they offer help to boarders outside school hours. Many students find their academic results improve with this support and the structure of boarding life.
05 Eventually you’ll join a worldwide alumni network that offers advice, mentorship, and friendship for life.

The Boarding Precinct is located across the road from the School, and right next door to the Strickland Physical Education Centre
“Some mornings I have rowing or gym, which is great because the gym is less than a two-minute walk. I’m back by 8am to shower, get ready for school, and head to breakfast. The food is usually really good.
Then I head off to Period 1 and it’s a normal school day. I have lunch in the dining hall with all the boarding boys again, then a few more classes before coming back to the boarding house.
Bedrooms are comfortable and well-equipped
Years 11 and 12 have individual rooms
Years 7 to 10 have shared rooms
There are three big meals a day, plus morning and afternoon tea, and snacks
We have dinner after sport training, then a House Period where we talk about daily notices and upcoming activities. After that, it’s homework, but there’s plenty of free time to chat with mates or watch TV.”
Ethan, Year 10
“The weekend usually consists of Saturday sport. I play footy so we’re mostly out the door by 8am, on our way to play against another APS school.
By lunchtime I’m back at the boarding house where I refresh, call my parents then get something for lunch. We sometimes go into the city and get dumplings.”
Will, Year 11

My favourite part of boarding is the relationships. It’s really nice to have friends and be around them all the time. It’s like a sleep over that never really ends.
Felix, Year 9

Our community includes students from around Australia and the world.
We can’t wait for you to be part of it.
“I’m from a town in New South Wales called Leeton, in the Riverina. I came from a home outside of town where seeing friends required a drive, so the location of the School is good because you’re close to everything.”
Seb, Year 10
“Boarding at Melbourne Grammar is the best decision that our family has ever made. The boarding house became a second home.”
Hugh, Year 12
