DYNAMO

1 1

GRAHAM STREET PRIMS

SATURDAY 02ND MARCH 2024 | 14:00

After 3 successive wins the Dynamos were at home again, this time to fellow top 6 contender, Graham St Prims, a team we had beaten 2-0 in the reverse fixture back in September thanks to goals from Tyler and Simo.

Into the starting XI came Coxy, Goodband, Supple and Simo. Out went Laban, Hughes, Gosling and Tovell. Dylan Muir, who recently signed full-time from Borrowash Victoria, made the bench.

Dynamo started well, and could have gone ahead as early as the second minute. Withers did well down the right and crossed for Simo to slot home, but only for the linesman’s flag to have judged Jammy in an offside position. We didn’t have to wait long after for the breakthrough to come, Macca battled well in the middle of the park and fed Simo who in-turn found Jammy, who’s great first-touch and pass sent Tyler away. He still had a lot to do from a tight angle, but finished well for his 13th of the season. Buoyed by the goal, Dynamo were playing well, but out of nowhere Prims equalised. A throw-in from the right-back position was worked well in central midfield, and 2-3 passes sent the Prims midfielder away, finishing well. 1-1 after 10 mins.

Prims now grew into the game and had a goal disallowed themselves shortly after. Towards the end of the first-half Dynamo got back into the game and created a few half chances, the best being a Withers chip which was cleared off the line and away from Jammy’s path. Half-time 1-1

The message at half-time was keep it tight and don’t lose the game. The lads took on board the message and, although the second half was devoid of quality, Dynamo showed a grit and determination to keep their more established opponents at bay. This was epitomised by Coxy pulling off a great save from Prims centre-forward and Bodill’s clearance on the line after a mix-up at the back.

Tovell, Muir, Poynton and Gosling all entered the field to freshen it up and contributed well, but the final ball, pass or cross just wasn’t there for us in the second-half.

The ref blew at full time for 1-1 and, all-in-all, a good point gained which keeps us in second place.

PLEASE TAKE YOUR SEAT...

Last weekend saw the official grand opening of The Nick Humphreys Stand, prior to our home match against Graham Street Prims.

With a crowd gathering, the spectators started to fill the stand, before the blue ribbon was tied across the entrance.

With scissors in-hand, and accompanied by a round of applause from the crowd, Nick did the honors and cut the blue ribbon, signaling the official opening of The Nick Humphreys Stand.

So sit-back, relax, and enjoy the show!

ROYAL BOYS FC

Our Tanzanian sister-team have started life well as a football club!

Royal Boys FC held their first match in a friendly against YOIFO FC. Going down 3-0, there were definitely positives to take from the game. Aside from the result, this marks a significant milestone in the clubs history.

Recently, the boxes of kit that were donated from the generous Dynamos members arrived in Tanzania - much to the Chairman’s delight!

The boxes contained old Dynamos kit, which our Chairman, Conor, had spent time in his kitchen removing the Dynamos badge with acetone, and ironing-on the Royal Boys FC badge. The Royal Boys team were over-themoon with the delivery of kit, and wore it proudly in their next match.

Included in the box was also old Dynamos Junior kit, which was donated to the kids in the village of Shagarai, Arusha. The Royal Boys FC mascots proudly wore the blue & white stripes, as a sign of thanks to our members back home in the UK.

TODAY’S OPPONENTS

Mayfield Football Club was formed in 2001 and now have several age group teams through to senior men. All our sides are strongly supported by an enthusiastic group of managers and coaches trained and certified by the FA at level 1 and 2 statuses. This commitment and professionalism have enabled us to attain full FA Charter Standard status.

The Mayfield Mens team formed in 2016, entering the Midlands Regional Alliance Division 2. The side achieved back-to-back promotions, taking them to the MRA Premier Division in 2018/19 season. The covid pandemic interrupted football for the following 2 years, but the club returned in the 21/22, achieving a 4th placed league finish and the clubs first piece of silverware - the MRA Challenge Cup. Last season saw the club move to the CMFL, competing in Division 1 West. The club enjoyed a wonderful debut season - finishing league runners up, whilst also making the Div 1 League Cup semi-finals and coming runners up in the Staffordshire County Challenge Cup.

Having been promoted to the Premier Division South for this season, we have had a tough ‘welcome’ period as we adapt to the challenges of competing at step 7 football for the first time in the club’s history. This season is very much a learning curve for the club on all levels, but we will continue to work hard to achieve steady progress as the season develops.

Just recently we have shown that we are beginning to find our feet and meet what is required performance wise but haven’t quite achieved the rewards for it over 90 minutes. The aim for the club is to gain and enjoy the experiences of playing competitive football at this level that in time will aid the development of everyone at the club over the long term, as we continue to add new pages into the club’s brief but successful history to date.
