CROMFORD & WIRKSWORTH TOWN

SATURDAY 18TH NOVEMBER 2023 | 14:00 After last weeks late late show at Mayfield, the lads were back at home against Cromford & Wirksworth Town, looking to keep their impressive home form going against another good Central Midlands outfit. After missing out the last two weeks due to work commitments, Macca returned to the bench, otherwise it was the same 15 that won at Mayfield the previous week. Dynamo started well and should have taken the lead when Goodband was put through, only to hit it straight at the away keeper. Cromford starting to grow into the game and dictating play through their excellent number 8, wingers drifting in outnumbering Dynamos midfield, causing problems for the home side. Dynamos were lucky not to fall behind, when a slick move was turned home by the number 9, only for the offside flag to come to Dynamos rescue. The half-time whistle couldn’t come soon enough and at 0-0 it was a chance to tweak things tactically. The decision was made to man-mark the away sides drifting wingers - this seemed to work and now Dynamo got to grip of the game. The deadlock was broken on 55 minutes; Smith did well which meant Gosling had time to release the ball over the left-back to Withers, who drilled a low-cross for Goodband to fire home and give Dynamo the lead. The away side were rattled and some suspect tackles started, ones to which the referee struggled to manage. Chances came for both sides; substitute Tovell unlucky on a couple of occasions not to put the game to bed. The referee found 10 mins of injury from somewhere, but Dynamo stood strong to Image: Gosling applies the pressure record a sixth league cleansheet and a seventh win of the season taking them up to 5th in the standings. League leaders Pinxton up next...

TODAY’S OPPONENTS

Pinxton Football Club was formed in 1994 and played in the Mansfield Bitter League between 1994 and 1998. We gained our first success in the 1995-1996 season by becoming the Division 2 Champions and League Cup Winners.

The following season saw us crowned Division 1 Champions and a brought a new challenge with the club joining the Midland Regional Alliance League for the 1997-98 season. The success of the club continued as we won the Derbyshire Junior Cup with a 1 -0 victory against Furness Vale in May 1999. In the 2001-2002 season we were crowned Division 1 Champions and were promoted to the Premier Division. In our first season we had a respectable 12th place finish and then improved upon this in the 2003-2004 season with a 6th place finish. With the club wanting to further its ambition we took the decision to join the Central Midlands Football League at the start of the 2004 2005 season. In our debut season we finished a creditable 4th and were promoted to the Supreme Division. After a shocking start to the new season, we managed to finish 15th but were relegated back to the Premier Division due to league rules concerning the erection of floodlights.

We finished the next season in 5th and were promoted back into the Supreme Division where we ended the season in 14th place. We had a disappointing start to the 2008-2009 season, but we hit a purple patch after Christmas which saw us finish in 8th and under the guidance of Tim Graney win our first piece of silverware in the CMFL when we demolished Sutton Town 4-0 in the final of the Floodlit Cup.

In the 2010-11 season we took the decision to introduce an Under 19’s team at the club to replace the previous Reserves, they have had a very successful couple of seasons in the North Midlands Under 19’s League, being crowned Division 3 Champions in their first season and finishing runners up in Division 2 in the 2011 -12 season, which sees them promoted to Division 1 for the coming season, where we are hopeful they will continue their success. After a good start to the 2017-2018 campaign a new management team was formed, Kenny Shinfield was appointed as first team manager with two assistants Nathan Benger and Kieran Debrouwer. A creditable season with the team finishing 4th in the league. This was overshadowed by the club’s finest achievement in becoming the 2017-2018 League Cup Winners with a 4-3 victory over Collingham FC.

At the start of the 2010-2011 season Tim took over the secretary role and handed the management reins over to Kenny Shinfield, after 2 seasons as Manager Kenny transferred to Assistant Manager for the 2021-13 season and Glen Clarence took the role of Manager, Martin Sutton has also joined the club for the season in the position of Coach. The 2013-14 season brings a new look management team of Ben Newman, Lee Cook and Kenny Shinfield.

The 2018-2019 season saw the club win both cup competitions with victory over Hucknall in the league cup and Collingham in the Floodlit cup. The 2022-2023 campaign started with a new management team of Mark Richard, Kenny Shinfield and Mark Barker with new additions to the team. Now with a full season under their belt, this season promises to be another successful year for Pinxton FC.
