ARNOLD TOWN

SATURDAY 28TH OCTOBER 2023 | 15:00 After the previous week’s postponement due to storm Babet, the lads were back on home soil facing Arnold Town, who like a few other teams in this league, have fallen down the pyramid in the past few seasons. Out were Moore, Simpson and Poynton due to holidays and Nkumrah who injured his ankle during midweek training. Into the squad came Peverley, Fox and new signing Muir. Dynamo asserted early pressure and should have taken the lead, as Smith misjudged a low ball from Withers. The away keeper was in an inspired mood and he saved at point blank range from Gosling. Further chances went amiss for the home side and it started to have a feel of one of those days about it, as the referee blew for half-time. The message was clear during the break, keep doing what we’re doing and the breakthrough will come. Dynamo had a strong penalty claim turned away and further chances went begging from Withers, Goodband and Supple. As Dynamo pushed for the winner, the game became more open and the visitors on a couple of occasions looked a threat on the break. The illusive goal didn’t come and despite 10 minutes added on, the game finished 0-0. The positives were it’s another point on the board and a 5th clean sheet in 9 league games, but the negatives of 24 shots and no goals tells a story. It’s surely something that will need to change if we’re to challenge the top 6 this season.

ROYAL BOYS FC A message from the Chairman…. I’d like to introduce the newest member to the Dynamos family - Royal Boys FC. In May 2022, I had the pleasure of visiting Zanzibar & Tanzania for my honeymoon, a beautiful place that I would highly recommend visiting if given the chance. Since my visit, I have remained in contact with my Safari tour guide; Matt Rupia from Rupia Adventure. Matt recently contacted me, having seen my posts on social media about The Dyanmos, and asked if I could help him set up a football club in his local village of Shangarai, Arusha in Tanzania. Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been working Image: Royal Boys FC badge with Matt to put in the foundations for our new football club - Royal Boys FC. The name Royal Boys FC was chosen by Matt, as the as the area has links to Tanzanian royalty. Matt says his aim is to transform the lives of local villagers to live like royalty. Having tried my hand at the social media graphics, I used my (limited) graphic design skills to help create a club crest for Royal Boys FC. The crest incorporates the Tanzanian flag, a crown for links to royalty, and a lion which are common in Tanzania and king of the jungle! Shangarai is a village located to the east of Arusha - a city famous for its Safaris. The village is located at the foot of Mount Meru (4,566m), the fifth highest mountain peak in the whole of Africa, which is situated in the Arusha National Park.

Royal Boys FC will play their matches at a local school; Amsha Secondary School. The school has limited facilities, but with the help of Melbourne Dynamo and its generous members, our aim is to improve these facilities to give local villagers a safe space to play football. Currently, there are a set of goalposts on the site, but these are made from wood by the locals.

The village of Shangarai is very poor, with high unemployment rate. Players who register with Royal Boys FC will be offered the opportunity to work for Rupia Adventure, Matt’s company, to give them a chance of a better life. I’d like to call on the generosity of our club members and sponsors to help us support Royal Boys FC, just like we do for Melbourne Dynamo. During the month of November, we will be asking everyone to donate any old/unwanted kit. A box will be left in the foyer of the MSP, where people can come and drop-off their donations. We will accept anything, from shirts, shorts, socks, boots, trainers, shin-pads etc. If you don’t have any kit to donate, you can also help improve the local facilities, by donating to the GoFundMe page (link below).

www.gofundme.com/f/royal-boys-fc-tanzania The club will start with one team, for adults aged 16-25. As the club grows, it will start to create teams for it’s local children in the village. We will aim to find and develop local talent and give them the best opportunities possible.

Every time the ball hits the posts, they get damaged and need replacing. The first priority will be to replace these with permanent steel goalposts, which will service the whole village and school.

You can keep up-to-date with all things Royal Boys FC, by following the club official social media channels. Facebook: Royal Boys FC Instagram: Royal.Boys.FC Let’s show the people of Tanzania what it’s like to be a part of this fantastic club! Thank you for your continued support.
