PINXTON

Pinxtonwin5-4onpenalties

SATURDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER 2023 | 15:00

The fixtures didn’t get any easier for the lads, as this time another title contender Pinxton FC visited Cockshut Lane in the First Round of the League Cup.

Out of action were Gosling, Worger and Peverley.

As in previous weeks, another tight game ensued with changes at both ends. Nkumrah hit the post for Dynamo and the away left back struck the bar for Pinxton. The home side made the break-through on the stroke of half-time, as Macca floated a free kick in for Jammy to steer it home, putting us 1-0 up.

The second-half started with the away side coming back into the game, equalising on the hour-mark with a well-taken shot from 25 yards out.

Both sides had chances to win the game with Supple, Smith and Withers all guilty of missing when in good positions.

Penalties followed with 8 successive spot kicks each, then skipper Allsop put his wide, allowing for the Pinxton number 15 to score the winning kick putting them through to the next round, winning 5

Another good showing from Dynamos, who at times more than matched the more established away side at this level.

Back to league action next time up.

1 1 MATCH REPORTS

THE RESSIES (SO FAR…)

Behind every successful First Team, is a young and prospering Reserve Team, developing young talent to push the seniors all the way. At Melbourne Dynamo, it is no different.

After a summer of many changes, our new-look Reserve side have had a phenomenal start to life in the Central Midlands Alliance Division 2.

Integrating 10 new players into a side was never going to be easy, but manager Alex O’Brien along with assistant Dan Toon have overseen the perfect start to their league campaign with 7 straight wins to leave them currently 8 points clear at the top of the table.

The squad is now made-up of several youngsters, who are playing adult football for the first time.

There’s a long way to go in the season but so far so good for the Ressies. The future is bright.

At the end of the 2017-18 season and after one season in The Alfreton & District Sunday league as South Normanton Colts Adults we decided to part ways from their youth team setup and form a new club called AFC Normanton and move to play our football on The Boundary Rec.

After finishing 4th in Division 2 as Colts, AFC Normanton went on to win 2018/19 the Division 2 league title and the Dick Windle trophy in our first season as a new club!

The 2019-20 season was cut short by the Covid pandemic when we were on course to win Division One, undeterred though upon the re-start of football we promptly won the Division one title in the 2020-21 season.

The following season though we were unable to retain the division one title as we finished 2021-22 as runners up to The Boot FC.

For 2022-23 a change was needed and the club decided to try its hand at Saturday football so they entered The Central Midlands league and were placed in Division one East, amazingly we won it and gained promotion to where we are today, a county cup semi final and a league cup final defeat also added to a quite remarkable season and a great start out in Saturday football. Behind the scenes we have a great team as well and we are growing the club step by step and everyone is looking forward to the new challenges ahead.

MELBOURNE MARATHON

Today sees the first ever Melbourne Marathon, in support of Melbourne Dynamo Football Club.

The event, organised by Dynamos volunteers, sees (un)willing participants looking to complete the 26.2 mile stint, whilst raising money to support the club financially.

The marathon has been broken into four legs, with some watering holes included along the way to make sure all participants are quenched throughout their efforts.

This event is on-track to be our most profitable fundraiser to date!

The marathon will finish at our home ground at Melbourne Sporting Partnership, so if you see any of our runners after the match, be sure to congratulate them (or even better, give them some sponsorship money!).

The final leg will see our Junior Dynamos running up the village to the MSP.

The event will see Amy & Ben’s Kitchen and Project D providing us with tasty Caribbean food and top-notch donuts for our runners to replenish their energy.

We’d also like to thank The Brewhouse for sponsoring this event. Use the link below, or scan the QR code, to donate towards this great event!

TEAM OF THE WEEK

This week’s team of the week features our Under 7 age group, who are embarking on their first season in the Derby Junior Football League! The Melbourne Dynamo Under 7 age group is one of the largest at the club with over 30 children registered.

We train on a Saturday morning from 09:30 until 10:30 at the Melbourne Sporting Partnership on the Artificial Grass Pitch. Many of the children have come through the Melbourne Dynamo Soccer School and we have 3 teams proudly representing the club in the Derby Junior Football League on a Sunday. Our Raptors, Bulls and Hawks teams currently play their league matches at the University of Derby. We also welcome a number of children each week who have opted to train only with the club.

.All the under 7 group are a pleasure to coach! The children have approached playing matches with great enthusiasm and it’s fantastic to see the children applying what they learn in training to match situations each week.

Our under 7 age group are based across many different areas including Melbourne, Repton, Burton-on-Trent, Castle Donnington, Aston-on-Trent and Mickleover. We are very proud of how all the children have come together to establish new friendships and to represent Melbourne Dynamo.
