GRAHAM STREET PRIMS

MELBOURNE DYNAMO

WEDNESDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER 2023 | 19:45

After the disappointment of Saturdays defeat at South Normanton, the lads headed for a midweek trip to another of the title favourites; Graham St Prims. Out was Allsop, Bodill, Trivett, Cox, Worger. In came Laban and Moore for their debuts.

Dynamo edged a cagey first-half, which saw Withers hit the post with a curling shot which had the home keeper beaten. Laban had the better of several battles with the Prims winger.

As the game entered the final ten minutes, a long throw was flicked on by substitute Smith for Withers to head in at the far post.

As the game entered injury time Smith charged down the home defender for Simo to race clear and slot home to seal the win.

Considering the positions of both teams in recent years this win has to be up there with one of the best in Dynamo history. A sure-sign of the progression of the club right now.

MANSFIELD HOSIERY MILLS

SATURDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER 2023 | 15:00

After the superb midweek win at Prims, the First Team returned to home turf, as Mansfield Hosiery Mills were the visitors to Cockshut Lane. Out through unavailability were Allsop, Moore, Worger and Peverley, back in the squad from the midweek heroics was Cox, Bodill and Trivett.

The first-half started well, and Tovell was guilty of missing from close range after good work down the right hand side. A lot of territory and possession failed to be turned into goals and the sides went in level at the break.

Just 15 seconds after the restart Dynamo took the lead, as Oscar Supple finished well after some hesitation in the Mansfield defence. It was two 10 minutes later, as Supple converted from the spot after the Mansfield defender deliberately handled the ball in the box. The referee later admitting it was a red card - not a yellow. With Dynamo seemingly in control, a long-ball caught out Jones, Bodill and keeper Cox and the away forward finished well to reduce the deficit. This buoyed the away side, who attacked well in numbers. The game became open but Dynamo held firm to secure the 3 points and move into the top 7.

Pinxton joined the Central Midlands League in 2004–05 and gained promotion to the Supreme Division in their debut season after finishing in fourth place. They were then relegated straight back to the Premier Division despite finishing just below mid-table but immediately returned to the top division where they played until the league was re-organised along geographical lines in 2011.

A TRIBUTE TO ‘DYNAMO’

The club are deeply saddened by the sudden recent passing of our beloved furry friend; Dynamo.

Dynamo arrived as part of the Salisbury family in 2016 and was a regular face up at Cockshut Lane.

As the club was a big part of Greg and Steph’s (through no choice of her own!) lives, there was no contest when it came to picking a name for him.

Just like his Dad, Dynamo loved football - not watching, but eating the balls!

We extend our condolences to Greg, Steph and family, as we remember all the joy Dynamo bought to everyone’s lives.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Introducing the Melbourne Dynamos Under 9’s Broncos. The MDFC Broncos play in the Derby Junior Football League on a Sunday in Group 1.

This group of lads have primarily come through the MDFC ‘Soccer School’ so mostly local lads who started their Melbourne Dynamo career journey on a Saturday morning on our Astro-turf pitch. Current Junior Managers John Bradbury and Richard Docherty have taken the team since starting the Under 7 season, and the team continues to develop to be a valuable member on the Under 9’s DJFL.

Its great to see the development of these players and it really shows we continue to produce good local kids who enjoy and want to play for their local tea.

We currently have 10 signed players primarily from Melbourne attending our Junior School and players from as far afield as Castle Donington, Repton and Chellaston. These lads are an absolute joy to coach and train and are really building a good team bond playing for each other and trying to win as a team.

Henri Bradbury – The team Goalkeeper and a natural ‘sweeper’ in old money in defence. Really developed during the recent pre-season with real confidence and authority between the sticks. Henri reads the game very well and fills the most important position giving confidence to his defence. A massive Nottingham Forest fan.

Charlie Schofield – developing towards a real Striker and asset to the team. That said he can play in all other positions, and we describe him as a ‘clever’ player as he reads and articulates on the game and in training very well. Big, brave, and strong and always gets stuck in. Charlie is a real sportsman and for example very good at the cricket too.

Finn Harding – a recent fantastic new addition to the Broncos and currently also training with Notts County. Has really developed in his time at MDFC, with natural ability and willingness to improve his game. Has a fierce right foot strike for his age and offers a great presence on the field. A natural ball

Charles Mahon – Managers Player of the year last year. Really improved on his passing and tackling and generally a great attitude to training and trying to improve as a player. Can really see Charles complimenting the Broncos midfield balance this year with his all round ability both in attack and defence. Works hard in training and a natural mindset to improve his game.

Cillian Docherty – Great midfielder who has really worked on using both feet to improve his overall game. Probably does the most steps on the pitch as he drives the team on to success. Loves training and working on his fitness. Current favourite player by a massive country mile – Garnacho from Manchester United.

Chester Heath – Our natural two footed player (every team needs one!), who is most dangerous driving forward with the ball. Joined us at the end of last season which was a real coup for the Broncos. Great at running at players and taking them on and showing a real desire to get stuck in is difficult physical games also. A massive Man City Fan.

The Evolution of Goalkeepers: U15 Tigers GK, Kian, with U9 Broncos shot-stopper, Henri.

James Heathcote – Developing into a defensive midfielder and has a natural understanding of the game. Reads it very well with excellent tackling and distribution. A real professional player and great fitness. James is the lad we get to demonstrate drills in practice as he sets the standard in training. Also, a great sense of humour, also known as getting cheekier (like most of them).

James Boardman – The potential match-winner in the team. Natural ability who loves to take a player on, but always looking for the right pass too. Currently really improving his tackling and midfield duties, but always a real danger to the opposition. Currently training with Derby County. Also loves Manchester United.

Jacob Stevenson – another relatively new addition who settled into the team and our training straight away. A lovely left foot and now developing into an attacking defender for the team. Absolutely fearless in the tackle and taking on bigger players hold no fear. Lovely attitude to training and supporting his team-mates. A great character and loads of fun in training.

Jack Fuher – Been with MDFC since soccer school but moved to the Broncos team this year. Jack is really developing towards a natural defender position and improving every session with his passing and use the ball for the Broncos. Always gives 100% and another lad who is a joy to train and support the team in his defensive duties.

As a reflection, the team is made up of a great bunch of lads representing the famous ‘Dynamos’ in the DJFL. It’s always heartening to see lads enjoy and proud to be playing football for their local team and continue into the Derby City League and into our adult’s team too. As coaches and players, we are proud to represent Melbourne in Derbyshire football and push to continue to ensure the club has a great reputation amongst its fellow clubs in the Derby leagues
