MICKLEOVER RESERVES
SATURDAY 26TH AUGUST 2023 | 15:00
After the previous week’s disappointment of Nottingham pulling out of the game at the eleventh hour, the lads were keen to get going at home to a Mickleover side who we had knocked out of the Derbyshire Cup in the previous season. Missing through unavailability were Jones, Gosling and Poynton.
Mickleover should have taken the lead early on, as the number 9 shot wide when it was probably easier to score. This seemed to lift Dynamo’s and they took the lead when Peverley played the ball through and Withers finished smartly underneath the keeper. Dynamo doubled their advantage just after half time, as the left back, under pressure from Smith, handled the ball and Supple sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot. It was 3-0, 2 mins later, as a corner was recycled out to Peverley, whose ball into the box was gambled on by Withers to tap home his second of the game.
Dynamo made changes as Fox, Worger, Tovell and Nkumrah were introduced, the latter 2 then combined for Nkumrah to notch his first of the season and give Dynamo and emphatic 4-0 victory.
SOUTH NORMANTON ATH. 2

SATURDAY 09TH SEPTEMBER 2023 | 15:00
The First Team travelled to one of the title favourites, South Normanton Athletic, buoyed by the win over Mickleover Res and full of confidence. Skipper Allsop was away and Worger unavailable.
Dynamo started well and took the lead when Supple fired in a low shot which the keeper didn’t move for. It should have been 2 moments later, after good work from Simo down the left saw his cross dummied by Smith, for Withers to turn and fire in, only for a dubious offside flag to come out. After this, the momentum swung to the hosts and they equalised with a free-header at the backpost. The teams went in level at the break and another good spell at the start of the second half saw Supple, Smith and Goodband miss guilt-edged chances. The killer-blow was dealt when the ball was given away in the centre of the park, and a through-ball saw the Normo number 7 finish well into the top corner.
As in our other defeat at RBL, a more than competitive performance, but it looks like the fine margins will determine the results against the top 6 sides in this league.
Mansfield Hosiery Mills now go into their 6th consecutive season in the Central Midlands South Division, now recognised as the Central Midlands Alliance South Division League, after a steady 22/23 season finishing 12th .
It was the first full season for Manager, Mark Turner and his coaching team of Paul Hutchinson, Dave Jones and goal keeping coach Shaun Fairfax, bringing much needed stability to the club. The end of the 22/23 season sadly saw the retirement of Dave Jones from the club meaning Paul has taken the full coaching reigns with the help of his son and player Jack Hutchinson, together with the continuing help and support from Shaun.
Mark has added some very promising players throughout the year and several more recently for the start of the new season. Although the team will be the first to say that consistency needs to get better, this is something they're working on tirelessly in the background to ensure they finish the 23/24 season in a much higher position.
Unfortunately for the club, the end of the 22/23 season saw the loss of 3 teams – the Reserves and the Ladies, both making the sad decision to fold due to lack of players and other unavoidable factors, and the Under 10’s Sunday side due to the lack of a 9v9 pitch at the ground.
We do still have our Veterans team who continue to improve every season under the guidance of manager Lee Willoughby, finishing 2nd in the East Midlands Veterans Conference North League.
Our youth section consists of 5 teams once again this season – Under 11’s (manager Ben Douglas), Under 15’s (manager Ryan Baxter), Under 16’s (manager Danial Dennehy), Under 18’s, (manager Richard James for his 9th season here at the club) and our new Under 13’s (manager Craig Moncaster). All teams are now progressing well and hope to see some good results this upcoming season.
The club will be working hard this season to provide all teams with the support they need, with the intention of introducing an under 21’s team to support the 1st team and hopefully see the re-introduction of a female team once again here at the Mills before the start of the 24/25 season.
