About Us Mehraban is a California-based luxury rug company specializing in new and antique rug collections that are all designed here in Los Angeles. For three generations, Mehraban has always put the poetry, mystery and artistry of rug weaving at the forefront of every new design innovation or antique acquisition. Several collections debut annually, adding to the sophisticated offering by some of the city’s top designers. In their hand-selected antique rugs, you will find subtleties of culture, weave, tribal symbolism, materials and dyes. Versed in the subtleties of regional design, the staff explains the differences between weavings created near the mountains and those made close to the sea. Each of these details has a distinct impact on the materials, quality and fineness of Mehraban’s antique rugs. Mehraban pays extraordinary attention to their processes, which include hand washing, hand shearing, and other proprietary details, all of which play a critical part in the final product.

Atlas Collection Azilal tribal rugs from Morocco are noted for their handspun wool, saturated color, intuitive motifs and charmingly irregular surface. Mehraban’s Atlas Collection includes Azilal originals and contemporary interpretations.

Kust Collection Kust Collection pays homage to historical greats of Swedish modernist flat weaves. Each rug in the collection takes its inspiration from a classic. It is then recolored, re-tooled and woven in luxurious pile in Central Asia. No two are the same.

FORM Design Studio Joshua Rose and Rafeal Kalichstein are the founders of L.A. based interior design firrm FORM Design Studio. Together they have created two collections with Mehraban. Both formed from unique inspirations and styles.
Baci Collection by FORM Design Studio The principal designers of FORM Design Studio have had the great fortune to spend time in Italy. It is a country they love, replete with dear friends, and in which the architecture, design, and history are as intoxicating as the cuisine. The Baci Collection for Mehraban rugs is inspired by Italian mosaics, friendship, and the simple pleasures found while falling in love with the spirit of a culture.

Pavimento The organic chevron of Pavimento is modeled after the carved stone pavers in the centro storico of Firenze. Wander in her silk shag as you might the romantic streets of magical Firenze.
Orseola The namesake of our dear friend Orseola, a true Veneziana, she is beauty, balance, and grace personified.
Tramezzini In a bar in Roma, made with love by our friend Annina, can be found our favorite of these triangular Italian sandwiches. Neither fancy nor precious, they are the taste of a late Roman morning.
Fantasia Fantasia is a kaleidoscopic imagining of the interior of di Cambio’s Duomo in Firenze. Sumptuously realized in 100% silk construction.
Cicchetti You can’t really know Venezia until you have tasted cicchetti, the delightful little delicacies that dutifully line the cases of bars and cafes, like little soldiers, throughout the city.
Picchi Inspired by a small tile mosaic that shrouds the espresso machine at one or our favorite bars in Firenze. Our Picchi rug is a joyful expression born of a visceral gratitude.
Pazzo Pazzo is an interpretation of an Italian Bauhaus pattern. Sensuous, honest, and crazy in the best possible way.
Repubblica The marble inlay of the porticos of Piazza della Repubblica in Firenze informed the bold and confident lines and intersecting shapes of this geometric design.

The eight carpets in the collection are inspired by the ways in which human beings express themselves: language, poetry, art, and architecture.
Bisous is intended as a celebration--an exultation--shared through original artwork, expertly translated into fine rugs.

Liesel Plambeck is a Los Angeles based artist and designer specializing in textile and product design. She studied illustration and printmaking at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles and has designed textiles, products, furniture, and lighting including commissioned works for Kelly Wearstler.
Liesel Plambeck Collection Taking inspiration from the landscape of her home state California and her expansive vintage print collection, she combines the traditional art of rug making with modernist-influenced designs, creating works that are dynamic and contemporary. Experimentation with materials and mediums is at the core of her diverse practice, including woodcuts, painting, collage, and pen and ink, always with a painterly approach.

As a principal and founding partner at SFA Design, Sue has served an important role in the establishment of Los Angeles as a design center. For more than thirty-five years she has designed some of the finest properties. Sue is the recipient of more than two dozen awards, including the prestigious Platinum Circle Award as well as a position on Robb’s Report’s “Top 40 Best Designers in the World”.
Sue Firestone Collection Sue returns to her roots in Malibu for inspiration in this collection. Each piece arises out of a sense of the colors and atmosphere unique to this enclave, from a time in history when the line separating earth and ocean was undefined. Each rug evokes a different unique sense of the California coast and deepens our appreciation of this wonderful place.

MADAM CHAIR Bita and Chinmaya are co-founders of MADAM CHAIR, an interiors styling and furnishings studio with a focus on breathing life into spaces, new and old. They both bring together their unique sense of style, culture and design experience into a single fold.
Zig Zig Zag Collection This collection of handmade area rugs is an adaptation of Chinmaya’s patterned architectural line drawings. The set of drawings used in the design of the Zig Zig Zag Collection explores the idea of movement in a static space. The lines and strokes used to define each piece are reminiscent of ocean waves. Each rug in this series is therefore named after a beach that further signifies its color, shape, form and texture.
