ABOUT THE BULLS

Health

All bulls are offered with our quality assurance guarantee. In addition, we take the following steps at ‘Karoo’, against reproductive losses. This means that all bulls have:

- Been tested (via tail hair samples) to prove they are not Persistently Infected (PI) or Shedders of Pestivirus (BVDV)

- Received two shots of Pestiguard to provide protection in the event they come into contact with a Persistently Infected animal at their new home

- Received two shots of 7 in 1 vaccine

All bulls have either been tested free of genetic mutations (AM, NH, CA, DD), except for lot 16 S289 who is an AM carrier, or are pedigree free from such mutations.

Fertility

All bulls have been inspected for physical soundness and palpitation of the sexual anatomy, and measurement and examination of testes. Any claim against fertility must be forwarded to the vendor or agent within nine (9) months accompanied by a veterinary certificate.

Visual Assessment

When choosing bulls you need to use both the EBVs and visual assessment. Visual assessment is essential to assess physical and structural soundness and is a reasonable indicator of health and temperament. EBVs are a tool that will help you to make more ‘educated’ decisions when you are choosing breeding stock. Do your homework well before the sale when you have plenty of time. Set some parameters for your EBVs that fall within your market requirements to narrow down potential purchases. Use this ‘suitable list’ of bulls and spend time looking, assessing the physical characteristics that you require.

The Karoo Guarantee

All sale bulls have been examined for fertility. This examination includes a semen test and palpitation of the sexual anatomy, measurement and examination of the testes. At Karoo we are proud of the product that we offer to our customers. We guarantee the fertility of all the bulls. If a bull should prove infertile or breaks down due to reasons other than injury, misadventure or negligence, Karoo will provide you with a satisfactory replacement if available, or issue you with a credit equal to the purchase price minus any salvage value. Any request for replacement or refund must be lodged with the vendor or agent within nine months from the date of purchase, accompanied by a veterinary certificate. We wish you every success with your purchase and we believe that the bulls will enhance your breeding programme, however if you have any problems, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Semen Rights

Karoo reserves the right to collect semen for within herd use from any bull that is sold. This will be at our expense and the purchases convenience.

All bulls in this catalogue are DNA sire verified. This improves the integrity of the pedigree, genetic condition and Angus BREEDPLAN EBV information that is provided.
