Advanced Placement Courses

What are AP Courses?

AP, or Advanced placement courses are college level courses taught in high school that may be eligible for college credit.

What is the advantage of taking an AP course?

AP courses can help students in a variety of ways:

AP courses look good on high school transcripts. They show a potential university that a student is willing to challenge themself

AP courses can also be beneficial to a student's GPA. AP courses are on a 5 point scale, so it is a way to increase the GPA, which is on a 4 point scale.

AP courses may also be accepted by some universities as college credit, which saves a student both time and money.

However, getting an acceptable score on an AP Exam is necessary for college credit Also, it is up to the college to accept AP courses or not

Should everyone take an AP course?

Not necessarily-- As the courses can be quite rigorous, students should only take an AP course if they are willing to put in the extra time and effort required Additionally, there are some requirements to being accepted into an AP course.
