Look not where I was For I am not there My spirit is free I am everywhere In the air that you breathe In the sounds that you hear Don’t cry for me Mom My spirit is near I’ll watch for you From the other side I’ll be the one running New friends by my side Smile at my memory Remember in your heart This isn’t the end It’s a brand new start By: Carol Kufner

Argentina was our first overseas family holiday, we travelled 11 000 km in a 6m camper van that continuously broke down. The 6 weeks spent on the road with my family was valuable time in getting to know the individual personalities in our family. The Argentina holiday was one of the first times we got to see my dads fun, quirky side and the playful dynamic between him and my mom. The trip was all about rediscovering, reconnecting and exposing us to new experiences and still remains one of my best holidays and life experiences up to date.

Matthew and Marc were the only ones in the family to be able to climb to the top of the volcano which was a big triumph for the De Souza family at the time.

We moved to Brazil for nearly two years as my dad got offered a job in Belo Horizonte and he thought it would be a good experience for us to learn a new culture and language. Moving to Brazil broadened my horizons and equipped me with a unique set of social skills.

This trip taught us about our heritage as my dad went around the island telling us stories from his childhood. We decided to scatter my Marc’s ashes off of Cabo Giroa, a spectacular, sheer cliff of 219 m stretching down to the sea. .

The De Souza family is a cultural blend of Portuguese and English heritage. Because my dad spent a lot of his time travelling for his job. We started the tradition of family holidays to spend more time together as a family. As a result we were infected with the insatiable desire to travel as much as we could.

I am very passionate about capturing the decisive moment, whether that it is lighting on a landscape or a special moment caught between two people. I hope to finish my Btech in Photography at NNMU and pursue a career in the photography industry.
