QUEENSBURY AREA, A PLACE FOR HISTORY LOVERS

THE MILITARY ROAD/THE GREAT CARRY

The fourteen mile Great Carry, established by native peoples, ran between Fort Edward on the Hudson River and Fort William Henry on Lake George. Beginning in 16th century, fur trading brought the first Europeans to the Great Carry.

The Great Carry became the Military Road with the onset of the
French and Indian War.

The famous Battles of Lake George and Fort William Henry were fought here. The famous Robert Rogers and his Rangers were based here.
Following the war, a group of Quakers founded the Town of Queensbury in 1762.
