Thank YOU! The old saying Time flies when you’re having fun could not be more appropriate than to describe my term as President of the Delta Association of Realtors®. I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of good people and to work with a fantastic board made up of true professionals and committees that had one goal in mind: to grow this Association for its members.
Remember to join with us for the Members Holiday Party on December 12 from 11:30 to 3:00 at the DAR Conference Center. Please RSVP to the DAR office so we have a head count for food and refreshments.
A few highlights for the year: Our new service center agreement with EBRDI was recently signed, and we were able to negotiate a higher compensation for the work staff performs here.
Through the tremendous efforts of our foundation this year they will be sending out the food collected from our members to local food banks. They were able to adopt two families for Christmas and fill their wish list 100% AND on top of all this, they will be providing scholarships to each of the local high schools later in the year.
Thanks to the Budget and Finance Committee that presented us with a 2014 surplus budget while adding services for our members. The education committee will have a larger budget to offset or defray the cost of some of the educational classes offered to our members at DAR in 2014.
For all of you who had a good 2013, I challenge you to bring in a case of canned foods to the DAR office for the Christmas CanTree drive by December 9. The tree is a little light right now, and for $20 you can help make a family’s Christmas brighter. This would finish 2013 on a very positive note.
If you have not had the opportunity to use the newly implemented Tech Helpline that we put in place his year, I can assure you they are very skilled and will have you up and running again in no time. I spent approximately 5 minutes with them last week, and they were able to diagnose and trouble shoot my problem and get me up to speed.
Again, I can’t say enough good things about the efforts of the volunteers and staff that make your Association so successful. There is a lot that goes on behind the scene that keeps it moving forward. Special thanks to John Bedford for his support during my term as President. It is greatly appreciated.
2013 saw a nice comeback to the housing market and good movement in home values. This was good for the industry, and we hope it continues the momentum into 2014.

I want to welcome President-elect Ron Keefer to his new position and offer my hand to help in any way I can as he makes his transition to the position as effortless as possible. We are all looking forward to helping Ron move this Association forward. Delta Force !!!

In this issue, 2013 Association President Scott MacIntyre remarked that his year has flown by. I totally agree with Scott, even more so. It was September of 2006 when I took on the job as association executive. Wow, it seems like yesterday, the time has passed so quickly. Yet, our real estate world has changed in ways that were unimaginable in 2006. Back then, the real estate market was hot, but showing signs of trouble ahead and many dire predictions came true over time. In 2006, our Realtor and Affiliate membership was over 1300. It has dropped each year since, leveling at the 780 range. In the midst of all that, the association has flourished. We bought the building on Hillcrest. We maintained our services to our members and have continuously worked to improve everything we do. “We” includes our board of directors and each and every one of our staff at the office. Delta is not as large as many of our neighboring association, but we are member- focused and mission-driven, offering the kind of personal service that bigness sometimes is unable to do. Most of all, our board of directors has been careful with our resources, maintaining a healthy cash reserve. We are financially strong and will remain so. My wishes are that your Holidays are bountiful, that the New Year brings prosperity and good health. I hope to see you soon, first at our Holiday Party on December 12, and at our annual luncheon on January 9. Our 2014 directors and officers will be installed. You’ll find the invitation in this issue of the Delta Currents.

Last year we donated more than 8,000 cans, which were distributed to needy East County families through local charitable organizations. WE want to increase that to 12,000 cans this year.
