Our Collaboration with South African Artisanal Communities The Raaswater Artisan Community in the Western Cape region of South Africa is known for its crafting excellence.

Themba Masala is a highly skilled painter, handcrafter and papier-mâché sculptor employing 20 people who are working towards self-sufficiency in a rural South African community. His wife Nombulelo is also an artisan who takes care of selected detailed paintwork on some of their pieces.

The artisans, often from underrepresented groups, specialise in traditional crafts, blending local culture with modern techniques. Through initiatives that focus on skills development and cultural preservation, the Raaswater community sustains itself and provides economic opportunities to its members, fostering cultural heritage while driving economic growth in the region.

The Raaswater x Meekono collaboration pieces embody the beauty, precision, and uniqueness of this community, offering a distinctive blend of history and contemporary craftsmanship that will make any gift truly special.

Our Collaboration with South African Artisanal Communities The Ndebele people of Southern Africa are renowned for their vibrant and intricate geometric patterns, which reflect a deep cultural heritage passed down through generations.

Khanyisani Bomma Trading is an artisan collective founded in Mpumalanga, South Africa by Christinah Twala. The group started with a small number of unemployed women whom Christians trained to become artisans in the clothing and textile sector. They focus on producing unique designs such as traditional-infused attire, costume fashion accessories, and crafted decor products.

These bold, colourful designs carry symbolic meanings of unity, identity, and resilience.

Each piece created exclusively for our collection embodies the beauty, precision, and uniqueness of Ndebele culture, offering a distinctive blend of history and contemporary craftsmanship that will make any gift truly special.

In the lush hills of Western Kenya, the ancient craft of soapstone carving has been passed down through generations. This soft, versatile stone, found only in this region, is meticulously hand-carved by skilled artisans into beautiful sculptures, ornaments, and functional items.

We have partnered with a socio-economic empowerment program in Kenya to create a line of our products. Our collaboration has included workshops on natural dyeing techniques, which have significantly contributed to both product and business development.

This partnership enables the program to continue its impactful work, offering dignified employment to over 100 artisans while providing essential support such as meals, education for their children, and home visits. With 34% of artisans owning land and 59% having opened bank accounts, the initiative fosters economic independence and sustainable growth. Additionally, 85% of artisans have sent their children to primary school, and some have started adult learning classes. Through this collaboration, we support artisans in transforming their lives and their communities.

Handwoven Accents for Home Our exquisite collection of Bolga baskets originates from the North of Ghana, where skilled weavers, who take years to perfect their craft, create their masterpieces. Bolga baskets have gained popularity worldwide due to their eco-friendly sustainable nature, coupled with their timeless design.

The weaving process is as intricate and unique as it is beautiful. Each basket takes up to 10 days to complete, involving meticulous steps where elephant grass straw is twisted, dyed, and woven with care.

As a result, every basket bears the personal touch of its artisan creator and the cultural essence of its community.

She blends traditional techniques with bold, contemporary designs to create a distinctive timeless look.

Defying cultural expectations, she became an independent entrepreneur, establishing her own business and training others in the art. Her unique baskets are collected worldwide, reflecting both her expertise and the rich heritage of Zulu weaving.
