THE STORY OF YOUR IMPACT 2024 REPORT

Transforming Medical Missions for the 21st Century

REFLECTING ON 2024: A

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT & CEO

Friends of MBF,

This year has been a celebration of your ministry and its profound impact around the world. Every story of healing, every life restored, and every community uplifted reflects your dedication to extending Christ's love through healthcare. Through your faithful support, you are not just partnering with us—you are the heart of this ministry.

Your generosity has enabled mission hospitals and clinics to thrive, empowered a new generation of compassionate healthcare leaders, and brought hope to communities in desperate need. This work is more than medical care; it is your ministry in action—a ministry that transforms lives, restores dignity, and creates lasting change.

The stories in this annual report are your stories. They are a testament to your commitment to making healthcare not only accessible but also a reflection of God’s healing love. Each patient served, each nurse trained, and each life saved is because of you.

I invite you to continue this journey with us as we look to the future. We can strengthen this ministry, expand its reach, and continue building healthier, hope-filled communities. Thank you for answering God’s call to heal and serve.

With gratitude and hope,

THE POWER OF YOUR MINISTRY

Because of your ministry, our partners were able to serve countless patients in Kenya, Malawi, DR Congo, and Haiti—places where access to healthcare remains a daily struggle.

In these communities, lives are still being lost to preventable diseases simply because doctors, surgeons, medications, and critical supplies are out of reach. Your support breaks these barriers, brings healing, and restores hope to those who need it most.

Limited infrastructure, workforce shortages, and inadequate resources create stark disparities in access to quality care, leaving millions underserved.

In Malawi, there are fewer than 3 physicians per 100,000 people, compared to approximately 260 physicians per 100,000 people in the United States. This extreme shortage means patients often travel long distances to reach a medical facility, only to face crowded conditions and limited treatment options.

Similarly, Haiti struggles with severe gaps in its healthcare delivery. With only 1 nurse per 3,000 people, hospitals and clinics are under immense strain, and essential services like maternal care, surgery, and preventative medicine are often inaccessible. In contrast, the United States has approximately, 30 nurses per 3,000 people, ensuring far greater access to critical care.

In Malawi, per capita healthcare expenditure is around $39 annually, while the United States spends over $12,000 per person annually. This funding gap directly impacts the availability of essential medicines, medical equipment, and life-saving treatments.

These challenges highlight the importance of the Malawi Surgical Network and all of our ongoing partnerships in the countries we serve.. By investing in healthcare infrastructure, medical education, and essential services, we can bridge the gap and offer hope to communities that desperately need it.

MILLICENT’S MIRACLE: A

JOURNEY OF HOPE & HEALING

Millicent’s story is nothing short of a miracle. One day, on her way home from school, she was involved in a tragic accident. Her family rushed her to several hospitals, only to discover they lacked the equipment to save her life. Finally, they reached Chogoria Hospital, an MBF partner, where Millicent was

Her aunt, Daisy, remembers the terrifying days that followed. “Her liver was failing, her chest was congested, her head was swollen, and her oxygen levels were dropping. The doctors tried everything, but her condition only worsened.” At one point, Daisy was told to say her final goodbyes.

But Daisy, her family, and the church community never gave up hope. They prayed beside Millicent. Her oxygen levels began to rise miraculously, and her heart stabilized. Slowly but surely, Millicent began to recover. “The day Millicent opened her eyes, we knew it was the beginning of a new journey,” said Daisy

Millicent’s recovery was only part of the story. When the family received the hospital bill, the total came to more than they could imagine—850,000 Kenyan Shillings, about $6,500 USD. Despite their best efforts to fundraise, they raised only a small fraction. “That's when the donations that MBF partners had given Chogoria Hospital came in handy to settle the bill in full.”

Because of your support, Millicent’s family could bring her home, and today she is thriving—back in school, healthy, and full of life. Your ministry makes stories like Millicent’s possible. When hope seemed lost, your generosity restored a family’s faith and gave a little girl a second chance at life. Thank you for being part of Millicent’s miracle.

BEN’S PATH TO NURSING FROM STRUGGLE TO SUCCESS:

Ben always dreamed of becoming a nurse—a calling rooted in his desire to save lives and make a difference. But after completing his high school education, that dream felt out of reach. Financial hardship weighed heavily on Ben and his family. With his parents unable to support his education, he took on casual jobs, saving whatever little he could. Friends contributed small amounts, and together, Ben scraped together just enough to gain admission to the Cline Irvine School of Nursing, an MBF partner in Chogoria, Kenya.

Still, his struggles continued. “I couldn’t concentrate in class because I had nothing,” Ben recalls. Balancing mounting family pressures and the stress of his financial situation, his grades began to decline, and hope seemed to slip away.

Then came a turning point. The school stepped in, assessed Ben’s situation, and connected him with support from MBF. “It was like a lifeline,” Ben says. With MBF’s support, his burden was lifted, and everything changed.

Today, Ben is thriving. His grades have improved, and his confidence has soared. “I can now focus in class. My life has never been the same again,” he smiles. For his family, this support is not just a relief—it’s hope for a brighter future for all their children.

Students like Ben are overcoming obstacles and achieving their dreams through your generous donations. Thank you for believing in their potential and investing in the future of healthcare.

ABOUT US

The Medical Benevolence Foundation (MBF) is a Christian nonprofit organization dedicated to equipping and strengthening the medical ministries of local churches in underserved regions worldwide.

Founded in 1963 by a group of physicians, MBF has partnered with churches in 34 countries to enhance healthcare services and promote sustainable growth, enabling individuals to break free from the cycle of poverty.

MBF focuses on several key areas to achieve its mission:

Hospitals & Clinics:

Assisting local churches in operating and improving mission hospitals and clinics to provide quality medical care.

Nursing Development:

Addressing the global shortage of skilled nurses by expanding nursing capacity and building leadership in lesser-resourced countries through initiatives like e-learning, continuous education, and accreditation.

Spiritual Ministry:

Integrating spiritual care into medical services, ensuring that the love of God is shared alongside physical healing.

By focusing on these areas, MBF aims to transform medical ministries into sustainable providers of international standards of medical care, while sharing the love of God.

Because of your ministry, lives are transformed with hope and healing. Thank you for another year of spreading the Gospel and making a lasting difference.
