Now that everyone seems to be getting use to the new stretchers, we are starting to learn more about how we operate as a system. With that, I’d like to take a moment and share a couple reminders about the new stretcher: STRETCHER WEIGHT Part of the research Medic conducted before purchasing stretchers focused on stretcher weight. For example: • Our current stretchers (with all current accessories) weigh 128 pounds • Our old stretchers (with fewer accessories) weighed 88 pounds • The Ferno stretcher that was evaluated, when equipped exactly as our current Strykers would weigh 169 pounds. The additional weight of our current stretchers comes from a combination of having new accessories and construction requirements. The new stretchers are crash rated to 20G’s of force. This rating necessitates being built of stronger materials that weigh more.

BARIATRIC OPERATIONS The new stretchers have an additional feature that the old ones did not. You should now be able to transport large percentage of our bariatric patients on these standard stretchers instead of calling (and waiting) for a bariatric specific stretcher. For example: Standard Stretchers • 700 pound (317 Kg) weight limit • 33 inch girth limit Bariatric Stretchers • 850 pound (385 Kg) weight limit (at load height) • 29 inch girth limit If your patient weighs less than 700 pounds and is less than 33 inches wide (at the pelvis), it should be safe to transport them on the standard stretcher, unless other circumstances prevent it. With the patient sitting centered on the stretcher in transport position (feet up on stretcher, seat belts on) • Crew should raise both side rails • If BOTH side rails click at least once, the patient should be safe to transport on the standard stretcher • Unless other extenuating circumstances exist As always, if you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to reach out to Patrick Crane at patrickc@medic911.com Thank you for everything you all do!

As previously noted, the latest Performance Pay Tracking Period began on July 1st. We are striving to meet the Patient Satisfaction goal of a ≥ 65% rating (experience as “Excellent”). In order to create a comfortable margin of performance, while continuing to improve the patient experience, we would like to share some feedback from recent patient focus groups. The two areas that patients value the most are: 1. Communication from the treating crew: “Explain treatment options and procedures” “Provide reassurance and compassionate communication with the patient”

SEPTEMBER 2014

2. Setting clear expectations: “Set transport length expectation” “Set a triage level expectation before arriving at the hospital”
