As previously noted, the latest Performance Pay Tracking Period began on July 1st. We are striving to meet the Patient Satisfaction goal of a ≥ 68% rating (experience as “Excellent”). In order to create a comfortable margin of performance, while continuing to improve the patient experience, we would like to share some feedback from recent patient focus groups. The two areas that patients value the most are: 1. Communication from the treating crew: “Explain treatment options and procedures” “Provide reassurance and compassionate communication with the patient” 2. Setting clear expectations: “Set transport length expectation” “Set a triage level expectation before arriving at the hospital”

I have been cigarette free 198 days and Nicorette Gum free 30 days [article submitted July 16, 2015 - Ed.]. I’ve smoked approximately 20 years; quitting for up to 1 year throughout that same 20 years. This time around is for good, without doubt. I have learned new skills to keep that commitment. Eliminating stress, changing routine, smartphone apps and education is the key. Educating myself on the effects of smoking, I have learned not only does it have negative impact on the lungs but it has a negative impact on skin complexion, induces insulin resistance and leads to tooth decay. I had to come to terms with my financial battles. I can’t spend money on improving my skin and spend money on cigarettes. It’s a lose - lose situation. Therefore, wrinkle oppression wins. Its freeing to not have to waste time smoking. In return, I’ve gained greater family time. Instead of having to excuse myself to go outside to have a cigarette, I enjoy socializing with my son and husband. And just maybe with this new healthy lifestyle approach, I will not be a health burden on my family in the future. I am hopeful that I will not have to depend on the healthcare system and/or its medications due to diseases caused by smoking.

The very notion of dressing up for Halloween often inspires dread among most self-respecting males. Costumes are for kids. Makeup and masks are more cumbersome than enjoyable. Nevertheless, Halloween is a great night out on the town for child-less adults. You should look good, of course, but you shouldn’t put in too much effort. When done right, a clever Halloween costume is a way to disappear into another identity for a few hours, to relax, to feel loose, to realize that there’s more to life than being stressed about work. Click here are 10 costume ideas that any man can easily execute. You should be able to find all of these things in the depths of your closet, a friend’s closet, or a local thrift store.
