Welcome to Medic 102. I’m Doc Studnek. This week, Costs: This section tracks how much money was budwe’ll continue the AWESOME journey into how Medic geted for the project and how much has been spent. works with a short discussion on Project Maps. Appreciating the cost of improvement allows us to assess from a financial perspective whether the changes Project Maps are tools Medic uses to manage projects. It made were worth the price. keeps project teams accountable and helps each team complete their work on time. Below, you’ll see an ex- If you have any questions, please contact Tiffany at ample of a live projects map. As discussed a couple of tiffanya@medic911.com or feel free to utilize the dropweeks ago, this is current project: assessing the needs box, outside of the PR office. of our employees. CLASS DISMISSED! There are six important sections in a project map: Project Objective: This section is at the top of the map and provides the aim for the project so that the team stays true to its purpose. Objectives: The objectives are typically taken from the goal section of a charter and are those activities which must occur for the project to be considered completed. Major Tasks: The major tasks are linked to each objective and are the steps that the team has identified that need to be completed in order for the objectives to be accomplished. Owner: Each major task is assigned an owner from the project team to ensure that the task is completed. This clearly manages expectations and accountability of project team members. Target Dates: This calendar indicates how long a team thinks each task will take to complete and when that task needs to be completed by. Completing a timeline early in a project is very important so that a team can communicate with the organization when they expect to be done.

Below are the Key Drivers behind the current Patient Satisfaction percentage. Please contact your Supervisor for further details. • Teamwork between EMS personnel: It takes many people to care for a patient and run a 911 call; our patients are very perceptive of this. • Discussing options: Patients want to be involved in their care and there are multiple ways of accomplishing our tasks. • Controlling or reducing discomfort/pain: Please try to understand the patient’s situation and help them be as comfortable as possible.
As previously noted, the latest Performance Pay Tracking Period began on March 1st. We are striving to meet the Patient Satisfaction goal of a ≥ 68% rating (experience as “Excellent”). In order to create a comfortable margin of performance, while continuing to improve the patient experience, we would like to share some feedback from recent patient focus groups. The two areas that patients value the most are: 1. Communication from the treating crew: “Explain treatment options and procedures” “Provide reassurance and compassionate communication with the patient” 2. Setting clear expectations: “Set transport length expectation” “Set a triage level expectation before arriving at the hospital”

Please remember that if you are transporting to CaroMont Regional Medical Center- Mt. Holly , an encode is expected. After the upcoming radio reprogramming, direct communications via radio will be in place. Until MEDIC completes radio reprogramming the process should be as follows: 1. Contact CMED at 704-598-2436 and advise you need to encode to CaroMont Mount Holly. CMED will then perform a phone transfer direct to the Charge Nurse at CaroMont and you can then give the appropriate encode to the ED prior to your arrival. Medic is pleased to announce that Malcolm Leirmoe has been selected as the new Education/ Quality Specialist in Medical Services. Malcolm holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Western Carolina University and has been with Medic since 2005. Most recently serving as a Field Training Officer and Tactical Paramedic, he joins the Medical Services team, mid-May.
CONGRATS MALCOLM! For more information, please contact Kevin Staley at 704-943-6220 or kevins@medic911.com.

2. The code to enter CaroMont Mount Holly ED is 367911#. CMC LABOR & DELIVERY This is the same process for CMC Labor & Delivery and ensures that your encode to the appropriate facility is recorded. The cell phones provided in the units have the 704-598-2436 already programmed to be dialed if you select to dial “CMC Labor and Delivery”, this will achieve connection with CMED to request either facility. This number comes to CMED first and is not a direct line to either facility. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Operations Manager-Communications, Todd Sims at todds@medic911.com.

ADMIN OFFICE CLOSED
With over 4,000 students from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools attending the Park Expo, Medic showcased its many different career paths. Interestingly enough, a common theme that ran among the students was: “I want to go into healthcare but not sure where?”. Medic shared the various career opportunities and paths; and got a chance to “toot” the Medic horn that EMS is a great starting point. We expounded on the fact that EMS team members are exposed to different kinds of medical and traumatic emergencies and work with a large portion of the healthcare industry (nurses, doctors, respiratory therapist and physician assistants, etc.). Their response was CONTAGIOUS (even if very few students were aware SEPTEMBER 2014 of what Medic actually does). Overall: another Medic community event success!
