Dragging his luggage, briefcase and Panther ball cap, Doc Studnek walks into the classroom, tired and a little dazed. “Welcome to Medic 102. I’m Doc Studnek”, he says, as he lobs his luggage in the corner, by his assistant’s desk. “I apologize for my haphazard appearance, but it’s been a long four days of meetings, more meetings and ‘just one last meeting’…”

perfect as we are, sometimes we do this step well. Other times we miss. Often we fall back on sending out surveys to obtain the opinions of those who have already been impacted by change.

But, let’s highlight a few points for both survey recipients and senders. For those of you who receive surveys (don’t we all), let’s remember: this is our opportunity to provide feedback. So if you are passionate about a topic, complete the survey and ket your voice be heard. In the course of the last week, I have received feedback For those of us who send surveys: it is our responsibility from several individuals that it seems as though Medic to make sure that we deliver meaningful, well-constructis surveying its employees to death. “Every time I come ed surveys. Surveys that are well-designed and feed into to work it seems like there is a new survey in my in box, the change process. It is also important to remember a survey might not always be the right answer. Somewhy do these keep appearing.” times a quick face to face “hello, can I ask you a couple “Yea dude”, remarks Lester, an EMT major. Slouched in of questions may be more beneficial. Either way, you his seat, scratching his head, he inquires, “Why all sur- do matter. Your thoughts matter. So, please be patient with your friendly survey taker. It may not feel like the inveys?” formation is going anywhere fast, but we are listening. While we don’t want to see anyone buried under an avalanche of surveys, they are an important tool. It’s a I know we close out the class with the same ol’ “email tool we use to manage our projects, as well as gather Tiffany with any questions or topic ideas.” Well, today will be no different! (Psyche!)… Please feel free to drop your thoughts and concerns. Tiffany a line at tiffanya@medic911.com or drop them When we embark on a new project, the outcome may in the dropbox – outside the PR office. change how an individual does his or her work. Projects could change a work policy, dress code to the type CLASS DISMISSED! of tattoos you can have, Mr. Oliva. Therefore, we need to include Medic employees in the process to understand how these things may (or may not) impact individuals’ work. We’d like to make an informed decision when it comes to Medic employees. And we’d like to do that BEFORE we make a change. Hence why we survey… Unfortunately, that is often more difficult than it sounds, especially when we have such a large workforce with such diverse schedule. And when you’re as far from

As previously noted, the latest Performance Pay Tracking Period began on March1st. We are striving to meet the Patient Satisfaction goal of a ≥ 68% rating (experience as “Excellent”). In order to create a comfortable margin of performance, while continuing to improve the patient experience, we would like to share some feedback from recent patient focus groups. The two areas that patients value the most are: 1. Communication from the treating crew: “Explain treatment options and procedures” “Provide reassurance and compassionate communication with the patient” 2. Setting clear expectations: “Set transport length expectation” “Set a triage level expectation before arriving at the hospital”

ADMIN OFFICE CLOSED

Kariena “KC” Bernesser is a Relief Crew Chief at Medic. She is very involved in the CEU team in conjunction with CMPD. One of her responsibilities on the CEU team is also working with the Bomb Squad. This has included additional training with the bomb technicians. Outside of Medic, KC continues to share the message of public safety not only via her position at Medic but also through her dedication and volunteer efforts in training Search and Rescue K-9s. She takes time to teach others about these dogs and their capabilities and how important safety prevention is. She also volunteers her time and her personal K-9 Search & Rescue dog whenever needed. SEPTEMBER 2014 For these reasons, we believe KC embodies the spirit of the Burnette-Nobles Safety Award and why she is Medic’s, 2015 awardee. CONGRATULATIONS KC! medic911.com

As you know, Medic and the County are working on developing the new plan for the Medic Headquarters on Wilkinson. You’ve been an intricate part of this process. Thank you for taking the time to fill out surveys, attend tours and sharing your thoughts. THEY MATTER! Because of you, we’re able to gather important information to help design our new Medic home. So, where are we now?... During the nine tours and face-to-face sessions here at Post 100 and at the new building, the County received over 317 individual suggestions and it’s estimated that we had over 50% participation from employees/staff. Those suggestions were consolidated and grouped by themes. Themes include “Health and Wellness”, “Employee Workflow”, Truck Workflow”, etc. The County took your feedback and created an 88 question survey to gather more specific information.

Here are the some of the results from that survey: 1. 252 surveys were completed 2. Top theme is “Safety and Security”. The majority of Medic employees felt this was the priority. 3. The top five statements were as follows: - Secure fencing around the entire perimeter of the property. - Well-lit outdoor areas throughout the property. - Slip and skid resistance technology wherever applicable. - An emergency signal off Wilkinson and/or Morris Field for ambulance exits. - Bathrooms throughout the building to reduce walking distance, given the size of the new facility. To see read the full report, please visit the extranet, under Administration or click here. So, what’s next?... The project work team will use the information you shared to provide direction to the design architect. As the design process unfolds, the work team will communicate with Medic employees on how their input is used in the new headquarter’s design.
