Welcome. Welcome. Welcome… To Medic 102. Last week, we shared a project charter and its focus on understanding Medic employee needs. Because they are near the end of the project, we felt that it would be useful to share some captured findings. tions. We believe these recommendations can help improve the employee experience, based on what we’ve learned throughout the project. Some of the recommendations may seem obvious and easy, similar to the new survey we develop. Others will be a little trickier. For example, reassessing the process of understanding our employees’ perspective and figuring out how to effectively and consistently include front line employees in projects will be trickier than some others.

As previously noted, the latest Performance Pay Tracking Period began on March1st. We are striving to meet the Patient Satisfaction goal of a ≥ 68% rating (experience as “Excellent”). In order to create a comfortable margin of performance, while continuing to improve the patient experience, we would like to share some feedback from recent patient focus groups. The two areas that patients value the most are: 1. Communication from the treating crew: “Explain treatment options and procedures” “Provide reassurance and compassionate communication with the patient” 2. Setting clear expectations: “Set transport length expectation” “Set a triage level expectation before arriving at the hospital”

Whenever a situation requires you to leave an ambulance parked outside of post 100, please remember to turn off the module switch. Leaving the switch on can quickly kill the battery. This applies to leaving a truck outside when the bays are backed up, as well. Please note: this is per a request from Fleet. Your attention to this is appreciated. For more information, please contact Bob Francis at bobf@medic911.com or 704-943-6251.

It is with mixed emotions that I announce the retirement of Melissa Garifo. After 30 years of service in EMS, Melissa is about to enjoy new adventures in life beginning May 1, 2015. Melissa began her career at Medic as a paramedic and soon afterward, as a crew chief. Very early on, Melissa distinguished herself as an extremely talented and caring clinician who always demonstrated strong advocacy for her patients. In the early 1990’s, Melissa began serving as a Field Training Officer and helped orient and develop new EMT’s and paramedics during a critical time of major expansion for Medic due to the tremendous growth of Charlotte-Mecklenburg. During her time as an FTO, Melissa became well known for her strong employee advocacy and commitment to providing excellent training and education for our employees. That commitment to excellence served her well as she transitioned to the new role of education and quality specialist in 2005 and in 2011 to her current position as Clinical Education Manager. Melissa was part of the initial team that built the Emergency Medical Education and Simulation Center and the enhanced training and education that went with it. As Clinical Education Manager, she has led the team to even greater levels of success and helped gain national recognition for Medic’s training and simulation program. From improved education, to enhanced simulation experiences, to a redesigned Field Training Officer and Paramedic Preceptor program, Melissa’s commitment and dedication to Medic, its employees and the patients we serve will be felt for years to come. Please join me in congratulating Melissa on a job well done! Kevin Staley Deputy Director For more information, please contact Kevin Staley at kevins@medic911.com or 704-943-6220.

You’re invited to Melissa Garifo’s, 30 Year Retirement Celebration. Since she’s about to live in the lap of retirement luxury, drop by and say... “ADIOS” “CIAO BELLA” “BON VOYAGE”
